Serving My Community
As a second year National Honor Society student, the last couple of years I have been more focused on ways I can help my community to help get
all my service hours in for the end of my high school NHS career. I've always loved doing little things to help someone who needs it but I never
thought about the things that I do everyday count just as much as the other things. Community service to me, is more than just holding the door open
for someone, picking up trash, or helping someone with their groceries. I want to help people grow and be a better person while serving my
community. I want to do more than volunteer, I want to impact the lives of people and I feel that is what I have done.

I spent my middle school years and early high school years helping out in Mrs. DiIanni's 3rd grade classroom at Lee Elementary in Middleville.
While helping Mrs. DiIanni with little things like filling and grading papers, I also helped the kids with problems they were working on. I had a lot
of fun helping them with educational art projects and learn to write in cursive. I had also helped organize some of their holiday parties, and well as

I remember last year after receiving the letter from NHS that I had not been accepted into National Honors Society, as dreadful as it was to receive
that bad news I learned many things that emphasize and describe my character. I noticed how throughout Freshman and part of Sophomore year of

ceremony at the school Thursday evening.
The inductees consisted of incoming juniors and seniors who met the chapter's eligibility requirements for membership. Students must carry a 3.4 grade
point average (GPA) or higher, demonstrate the qualities of character, leadership, and service, and not have any disciplinary referrals during the current
or previous school years to qualify.
Once it is determined that an applicant has met the requirements for membership, their application is reviewed again by a committee of faculty

I fully understand the agreement upon making all members be present at this induction otherwise being removed from NHS. I also do understand
how going to a concert is not at all anywhere close to a good enough reason to miss out on an NHS ceremony. My parents did not know about my
ceremony on April 28th which is the same day as the concert. They purchased the tickets on January 08st not thinking to look on the calendar to
see if anything was planned. I did write it down on our family calendar. It was a surprise graduation present from my parents. Knowing how bad I
wanted to go, they didn't get insurance on the $457.68 tickets, since they assumed I would be able to accept their gift. When they told me I was
going, I thought of ways to get refund from ticketmaster, tried re selling our tickets, and even tried switching them to a concert in a further state.
