The Pros and Cons of Homework Essay
Homework: Does it Help, or Harm Us? When a class is almost over and a teacher starts assigning homework, every student's heart drops. When
students have an excess of homework, they do not do as well. Even though homework is a good tool to help teachers teach students subjects, teachers
should give less homework because too much homework causes mental health issues in students and less homework helps improve test scores. The
first reason teachers should give students less homework is that it takes away their childhood. When a student goes to school for seven hours a day,
and then goes home to three hours of homework, they do not get to be a kid. It is suggested that student adopt an eight–eight–eight schedule. This
schedule being eight...show more content...
Assigning less homework in schools could reduce teen anxiety and teen depression rates (Kohn). The next reason too much homework is harmful to
students is that studies show more homework to cause lower test scores. One to two hours of homework a week does not cause a major change in test
scores (Wolchover). There is no evidence of homework having any academic benefit in elementary or middle school, and the academic benefit found in
high school is very weak (Kohn). Homework is not shown to help students academically until grades ten through twelve (Wolchover). There is also no
proof that homework increases good study habits in students (Kohn). On top of too much homework making standardized test scores lower, much of
this homework is just busy work (Wolchover). Many teachers ask their student to re–write pages in a textbook. This just causes the student to spend
time on something that has no real purpose. Remedial work has no positive effect on students. It just takes up more time ("Too Much Homework Can
Cause Stress, Depression and Lower Grades, Studies Suggest"). Even homework that is useful in some way should be limited. Studies show that a
student's time is more useful when they play an instrument or a sport. Parent's want their student to be good at many things. It is more important to be
a well–rounded person than to ace all of your tests (Wolchover). One of the top

Homework As A Good Thing Essay

Abstract
Homework has been considered apart of every child's learning experience in America, but there are many downsides to homework. Homework prevents
children from exploring the world they live in, besides just what they learn in the classroom and prevents many other activities. Along with this,
homework can be very unhealthy is child's life due to the amount of stress it causes. There is also evidence that suggests homework has no affect on
learning and in many cases is counter productive. Homework causes many conflicts within families and is in many households left to the parents and
not the students. The evidence of homework being a good thing is outweighed by the evidence that shows how homework can be a negative thing in
many students lives.

Persuasive Essay On Homework
What the public is concerned about is if homework should even be assigned? Homework was contrived to prepare students and help them engage them
in the content being taught. Homework also enacts time management skills and responsibility of growing young adults. Although the debate about if
homework should be given minimally or in discretion and that homework has no verified benefits still stands. Homework is necessary for causing
students to be engaged in the content taught and delivers time management skills for the future.
The stance that homework is necessary and helps students engage in the content and learn time management skills is one I concede with assiduously.
Homework is given to students to help them retain the information they learned in class and leads to academic achievement. Many research studies
have found evidence of a positive correlation between homework and student achievement. Since students are given homework nightly, it will help
them absorb the content and they can score higher on a test or quiz. Homework also helps students develop responsibility and life skills, and prepares
students in time management skills. Research claims the ability to manage tasks provides essential learning, increased motivation, and academic
benefits. When students engage in homework it makes them more successful and independent in the long run. Although homework may take up time
after an extracurricular and can lead to less sleep; for example, a student doing a sport after school, getting home and having to do homework on top of
that. Doing an extracurricular and still completing homework are inherently important, students will gain time management skills if they are doing
both. If a student can learn to juggle an extracurricular with homework it will help them learn life skills. Homework will lead to the academic growth,
achievement, and the success of a student.
The stance that homework is important, but discretion can and should be used when assigning it is one I partially concede with. Homework should
be given in the accounts of different classes, since not all classes are the same. Homework is given in regards to class type (CP, Honors,
Advanced–Placement), homework severs different classes by rigor

Essay about The Harmful Effects of Homework
The Harmful Effects of Homework High school students feel more stress than working adults, and children are beginning to feel aversion towards
learning. Both adolescents and children are at risk of health issues due to anxiety and less time is spent with family, playing, and sleeping. The cause
for all of this is too much homework that is suffocating students. Homework causes students to sleep less, have more stress, and even forces students to
give up extracurricular activities. These negative results can be improved by reducing the homework load. Students continue to work late into the night
to meet the pressing homework deadlines, sacrificing much needed sleep. According to the National Sleep Foundation, teens need 8.5 to 9.25 hours

However there was a positive correlation with success and sleep (Suskind). Homework can get in the way of activities that lead to better success.
If the homework load is lessened, kids can have more time to sleep, which is very important to a child's and teenager's development. Many health
issues occur when students do not get enough sleep. The Medical Division of Sleep Medicine at Harvard Medical School published a research
article that states a lack of sleep aids in the development of diseases such as obesity, heart disease, and diabetes.(Sleep and Disease Risk)The article
shows that students need sleep, and with the balancing of school, activities, and home it cuts into time for sleep. With the sleep deprivation and a large
workload students are very prone to health issues and stress. Homework is a large contributing factor to a student's stress.Researchers surveyed students
in 10 high–performing schools in California, and found that 56% of the students stated that homework was a primary stressor (Strauss). Reducing the
amount of homework would be more beneficial to students than not. As students go throughout the school day the homework they get from each class
piles up. Many students believe that homework is pointless since some teachers never look it over, and give a small amount of points for all of their
work. Now this is not to say that homework should be worth more points. Rather, the amount of homework should be equal to the

What Does Homework Mean To You Essay
People often say there aren't enough hours in the day, or there is not enough time to help out, or do homework, or do anything new that they want to
do with someone that they want to do it with. School gives you a ton of homework, especially in college with both reading material and assignments.
For someone like me, who struggles with reading, there just seems to be no point because I have a hard time comprehending what I read. It takes so
long. I find time to work on my assignments little by little. It is hard for me to balance school, homework and working. I am fortunate that in my job
I have a lot of down time which enables my being able to work on my homework while at work. My bosses are very understanding and encourage me

Homework: Beneficial or Not?
What is homework? Most students might say that homework is a time waster and is unrelated to learning. Both are logical statements in the eyes of the
average student, but what are the facts and why is homework part of our school curriculum? Homework has been a standing tradition in America since
the 1950's due to the education war with the Soviets. Ever since the ending of the Cold War in the early 1990's, the American consensus openly
welcomed homework as a part of school curriculum. Homework is in our modern American roots, and it is so effective it has stayed in our
foundation. Homework is beneficial to young scholars in our school system to this date: it is helpful and beneficial in the way to reinforce knowledge
learned in schools, it provides clarity and room for the short class schedule, and it also forces the need to use responsibility and time management.
Reviewing and reinforcing topics learned in school is an important way to clarify and to extend the realm of comprehension that students need in order
to pass standardized tests with flying colors! Some students may not fully understand the topic, such as "systems of equations" in math, and may not
notice their ignorance for a certain part until they try to do their homework. Of course, that is why there are teachers and not textbooks that stare at you
in class, however, learning and understanding topics on your own during silence and solidarity may be beneficial to most students. Twenty–five percent

Thesis Statement Against Homework
The Case Against Homework:
Homework/it is "All pain and no gain"
There is very very little, if any, correlation between homework and test scores
Not a single study has ever supported the folk wisdom that homework teaches good study habits and self–discipline.
Most of homework is assigned as busywork to keep kids busy, assuming that they will waste their time.
A lot of teachers feel pressured to assign homework by tradition, administrators, and/or parents.
Most of the folk wisdom that homework is good and helps your academic achievement, test scores, responsibility, study habits, and to connect with your
family has either been proven wrong, the opposite, or has not been proven at all.
Homework only allows kids to grow academically, because it takes up so much time to do, they don't have time to do anything other than...show more

Descriptive Essay About Homework
Gemless As I parked in the gravel filled lot I settled in my car for a few minutes contemplating homework from each of my classes. I stepped outside
with my belongings; there was a slight breeze from the remnants of Hurricane Harvey. Clouds dotted the orange tinted sky as the sun tried to climb up
to be fully seen. The day right from the start seemed like a good day so I went about smiling and walked blissfully to my normal seat next to my
friends. We prepared for the coming classes that day. The deafening bell sounded and we were on our way to start the actual day. My classmates
and I walked joyfully through the hallways, joking and laughing before reaching our first period destination. I made my way to the front of the
classroom and sat down. The air was crisp so I took out my jacket and put it on. Our teacher walked in a few minutes late and started to take
attendance. The whole classroom focused on him. After he finished taking attendance, he slowly reached down into a drawer and pulled out a stack of
papers. I stared in disbelief. The stack of papers he pulled out was actually a pop–test. I took the pop–test trying to recall everything that we had learned
over the course of two weeks. I focused on the test for most of the class period and finally turned it in. The morning weather seemed to just be a ruse.
This was not a blissful or good day; it took a turn for the worst. I sat there in the chilling room trying to think of something else to keep

The Importance of Homework Essay
Students spend hours doing it, teachers spend hours checking it. Homework is sometimes a burden to teachers and students but still it is necessary.
Some people doubt homework's effectiveness, but teachers and researchers agree homework is essential. Homework helps students get better grades in
school.
Some people don't know exactly what homework is. Homework is defined as an out of class activity assigned to students as an extension or
elaboration of classroom work(KidSource). There are three types of homework teachers generally give out. The first is Practice assignments, they are
assignments that reinforce newly acquired skills or knowledge(KidSource). An example of these assignments is writing definitions down for new words

Parents, students, and teachers all sometimes wonder how useful is homework? Though studies examining the relationship between homework and
school achievement have been inclusive(ERIC). Still many teachers and researchers still agree that homework helps students achieve higher grades in
school. Schools that assigned homework frequently showed higher student achievement than schools that assigned little homework(ERIC). This means
that homework is working. Studies have generally found that if teachers carefully plan homework, homework can be quite helpful(KidSource).
Homework has proven its effectiveness and is a very powerful factor in student performance.
Students should only spend enough time on homework so that the subject is reinforced and not just a waste of time. The national PTA suggest that
from K–3 grades there should be no more than 20 minutes a day, for 4–6 grades there should be 20–40 minutes of homework, and from 7–12 grades
time varies do to types of subjects and number of subjects taken(KidSource). Anymore than these recommended amount of times is seen excessive by
the national PTA. Surprisingly U.S. students are working as hard as Asians: 24% of eighth graders do more then two hour of homework compared to
Japans 28% and Germanys 17%(Brimelow108). Are we working to hard, researchers don't think so, U.S. student grades are improving. As of 1996
one in every sixth grader does more than an hour of

"Tal!" "What mom!" "Did you finish your homework?" "No," I was tired. I had lots of homework but it was only 5:00. I had 4 hours before nine.
That was when I had to sleep. Or in my case, play games on my iPad until I become sleepy and I realize I didn't finish my homework. I'm Tal. I'm a
13 year old boy and I live with my brother Kai. He's 9. We all live in Saratoga. I have lots of homework but I don't do it in time. I do it at night.
"Hey Tal!" Kai! What does he want now? "I'm going to play with my friends." He blurted. Now I'm finishing my homework. I want to play my
friends too. A few days later my mom asks me if I want to play with my friends. I said yes. Of course, she wanted me to finish my homework first.
Well, because of my homework I never have time to play with my friends. I don't understand the importance of doing that. Homework is a waste of
time. Since I despise homework, I decide to give up school during the second trimester. After a few months my mom asks me, "Tal," I sense
something is wrong. I brace myself for the screaming. I know why. Then it happens. I could feel her cool breath as she screamed at me. Her breath
is cool because she makes lettuce strips for lunch when she is angry or nervous. This is because she likes playing with the strips in the water. When
she is really angry I can tell because she makes the lettuce strips stick together with melted cheese and adds chicken to make a healthy sandwich. This

Cause And Effect Of Homework
This day in age, high school students are feeling more stress than working adults, and kids are starting to swerve away from learning. Both teens
and children are at risk of health problems due to anxiety and a shortage of family time, playing, and sleeping. Public schools have 6 hours to cover
what homeschools cover in 4, and yet it seems as if school follows teens home. The cause for all of this is too much homework. Homework causes
students to sleep less, have more stress, and even forces students to give up extracurricular activities. This is currently a huge problem in our society
and there's proof to show that it causes nothing but harm.
Homework may be thought of to help kids improve their test scores and studies, but this common misconception has our whole school systems
fooled beyond belief. Over the years, the study of this controversial topic has been operated heavily. For example, Duke University psychology
professor Harris Cooper conducted studies called the 2006 Meta Analysis that are heavily renowned in the community (Cooper 2). Some studies he
examined showed homework can cause physical and emotional fatigue, fuel negative attitudes about learning and limit leisure time for children. This
is beyond true nowadays, where our school systems push kids to sleep less, stress more, and spend less time with family. The fact that most of us
students get less than the recommended 8 hours a night and are given on average one hour of homework per class is awful to think about, and should
make people realize that this debate is a no brainer. Students with depression and anxiety disorders is at an all time high, and homework is to blame.
Homework is a growing issue due to the fact that so much is assigned, which is making our students lose sleep at night. "more than 87 percent of high
school students in the United States get far less than the recommended eight to 10 hours, and the amount of time they sleep is decreasing – a serious
threat to their health, safety and academic success." (Richter 3) Fatigued students can play a role into failure. Students getting less sleep at night and
starting school early in the morning can result in low test scores, less production on take–home assignments, and overall

Persuasive Essay On The Importance Of Homework
"To be ready for tomorrow's opportunities, do your homework today. Learn, refine your skills, and focus on growth." This quote by an unknown
person perfectly demonstrates the importance of homework. What this quote is trying to say is that in order to be prepared for the opportunities life
gives you, do your homework first. It'll prepare you for the future. Although homework takes time to finish, it is very beneficial in several different
ways. Homework teaches students the importance of responsibility, time management, and self–respect. Assignments given to children from school to
do at home, helps students review and remember the lessons taught that day or week. Even if students dislike school work, it is undoubtedly essential.
Definitely, most agree that school work is very tiring. However, they do not realize how homework teaches students responsibility. By doing school
work, they have a sense of responsibility which will help them be successful in the future. A company would unquestionably hire a person who knows
how to be responsible and will do their work when told. If the person is consistent and is responsible with their work and time, the company will surely
promote them. Which means that the person will be paid higher, feel better about themselves, and will try harder to earn the company's trust. The
benefits of responsibility and homework are unmistakable. Responsibility will also help students get better grades. People know they are responsible
for their grades and their assignments getting completed. So if they take the initiative to finish their homework, then their effort will show through how
well they're doing in school. Good grades mean getting into good colleges and universities. Through responsibilities, students learn that they are
accountable for their actions and know they will have consequences if they don't do something. An example of taking responsibility is when a student
hasn't done their homework. The teacher punishes the student by not letting the student go home after school has ended. The student learns the
importance of homework and responsibility. Next time, the student should finish their homework. As seen in the example, by not doing homework, the

Can you agree that lately "homework" is being largely misguided? Can you agree that "homework" is being abused without producing its primary
intended results? I highly urge you on behalf of all students operating through this system; change is needed. The current use of homework may be
contributing to the decline in the motivation of students; therefore, interfering with their academic potential. Evidently, there has been an abundance of
research which shows how homework is detrimental to a teen's self–confidence, social skills, overall health, and most importantly their attitude towards
school. Why am I directing this straight to the teachers? Teachers have full control over what they hand out and what they demand from students.
Teachers also have the authority to practice their style of teaching and alter them accordingly. Every teacher should consider the unhealthy and
negative outcomes which come with the homework system. In every student's life, a teacher is another character you will meet who is supposed to
guide, motivate, and support you through your journey in life. Teachers are rather more like mentors. However, this concept has escaped for a
majority of students because of the pressure and the endless amount of stress which is constantly being stacked on top of each other. In 2013,
researchers from Stanford surveyed more than 4,300 students from high schools in California. One of the questions the researchers asked the students
was; did you experience any

Homework is something that has been required for generations. Homework, like anything has many ups and downs, many positives and negatives,
many highs and lows, whatever you want to call them. Homework ranges from kindergarten to college, and quite possibly your future job. Homework
is something that is unavoidable, it will always be there, no matter how much you try to avoid it. Homework can be described as useless busy work that
is assigned to students, but doesn't necessarily benefit them at all.
Homework is something that causes students to miss multiple hours of sleep due to working on homework. It can be described as stressful,
difficult, but one of the better words can describe homework as useless. Have you ever worked on a homework assignment and thought : "Why am I
doing this?" Or have you ever been up hours past your curfew because you're working on homework? All teachers and bosses have different
approaches when it comes to assigning homework. Some deadlines are more flexible, some assignments are longer, and some are an option for
students to do. The big question still remains : "Does homework benefit students?"
If you're thinking that homework does benefit students, let's take a close look at how much homework can actually benefit students. If a student has 7
class periods a day, and 6 of those class periods include homework. That student is having to worry about 6 tasks, generally spending a minimum of 3
to 4 hours working on homework. If that task is long,

Picture this; You just got home from a long hard stressful day of school and now you can relax. Oh wait you can't. This is because you have more
arduous work to do. So you grab a snack sit down and pull out your homework. You then begin to write down everything you have to do on a list so
you have an idea of what you are going to have to do tonight. The list begins with your double sided fifty question math sheet, three page science
document, Social studies notes, followed by a reading SCR, and a writing short story. But wait, it gets worse, on top of all that homework you have a
Math test to study for. Yes this seems very over the top. But it's not, this is what many HMS students struggle with on a daily basis.
Yes homework can be helpful and beneficial for students but is there a point where enough homework is enough. One survey taken throughout HMS
pod 7/8c shows that 65% of students spend 1–3 hours of of their time every day on homework. The same survey shows that 19% of students spend 4 or
more hours on there home work and that only 16% spend less than an hour. Yes an hour may not seem like a lot of time but the last thing students want
to do after 7 hours of work is even more work. Which is also why less than 8% of students do their homework right when they get home meaning that a
whopping more than 92% of students procrastinate when they have homework. These numbers are no coincidence, many of these students who
procrastinate are probably procrastinating simply

Essay on Does Homework Actually Help Students
Everyone at one point in time has complained they have had too much homework. Especially in High School. I was always told homework will help
me because it is a way to practice and fully master the material I needed to learn. In high school students spend a few hours a night doing what they see
as busy work, meaning they do not think it is helping them at all. Some students do not mind work load. They feel doing the problems, writing the short
responses, filling out packets, helps them because they practice and remember the material. Aquestion that has come up is whether assigning packets of
homework, mostly finding a word and it's definition, will help students master material better than assigning less or none at all. I believe that...show

In cases like this, students do not learn the material. By simply writing many definitions, or even writing wrong definitions, students do not grasp a
deep understanding of concepts or main points of the material. As stated in the book Helping Your Child with Homework, the best type of homework
assignments are the type that include some kind of feedback from the teacher to the student; the homework assigned to students should also be at a
level appropriate for the students learning abilities, and the assignments should challenge the student intellectually (book citation). Packets filled with
simple questions such as " what is meiosis" or "give the definition of simile" do not challenge students and teachers do not give much, or any, feedback
to students with this type of homework. Many argue that it is difficult for teachers to give feedback when they teach one hundred or more students.
The amount of papers they need to grade is high and they simply do not have the time to write comments on every assignment. My answer to this is
simple. Instead of assigning packets of homework, assign a few critical thinking questions. The students would give a brief summary on the main
concept, then perhaps paraphrase a definition that is important to know. Students would then really think about their answers and the teacher could give
comments since they will no longer have to skim packets. Teachers would only have to read

Why Homework Is Important Essay
Homework that has a purpose means it is effective. In an article from DataWorks–Educational Research, Copper says, "Some teachers assign 'shotgun
homework': blanket drills, questions, and problems. Students are given homework that is not furthering the concepts and skills. The homework is
assigned because it has been drilled into our collective mind that homework produces higher performing students." If teachers want to have effective
homework it should cover something that was already taught and include skills they have learned. Not things students are not understanding well.
The Fundamental Five
A article from Educational Leadership states, there is five main tasks that homework should have for the students actually to be getting something out
of it. The first one is, having a clear academic point and purpose. To do something like that you could have a checking in with it the student. Another
reason is you can tell the student is learning something with it. Next is, there should be different choices for the different type of students. Many
students learn at different paces and have to spend way more time on their homework than other classmates. The fourth thing is they should be able to
complete this by themselves and not having a lot of extra help. This shows the students they are capable of doing something by themselves. Lastly, the
students take an interest in the work and for the most part find it enjoyable.
When there is a clear point to homework it makes it

School, Sports, Shower, Eat, Homework, Repeat. Teens face the struggles of not having any time to finish their homework much less having any
time to do their favorite activities. Despite all of these issues when the going get's tough you should try taking your mind off of it, talk to someone

In Boy 21 after Finley talked about what happened to his mom and grandpa, Russ asked "So that's when you stopped talking?" and Finley said

The Pros And Cons Of Homework Essay

  • 1. The Pros and Cons of Homework Essay Homework: Does it Help, or Harm Us? When a class is almost over and a teacher starts assigning homework, every student's heart drops. When students have an excess of homework, they do not do as well. Even though homework is a good tool to help teachers teach students subjects, teachers should give less homework because too much homework causes mental health issues in students and less homework helps improve test scores. The first reason teachers should give students less homework is that it takes away their childhood. When a student goes to school for seven hours a day, and then goes home to three hours of homework, they do not get to be a kid. It is suggested that student adopt an eight–eight–eight schedule. This schedule being eight...show more content... Assigning less homework in schools could reduce teen anxiety and teen depression rates (Kohn). The next reason too much homework is harmful to students is that studies show more homework to cause lower test scores. One to two hours of homework a week does not cause a major change in test scores (Wolchover). There is no evidence of homework having any academic benefit in elementary or middle school, and the academic benefit found in high school is very weak (Kohn). Homework is not shown to help students academically until grades ten through twelve (Wolchover). There is also no proof that homework increases good study habits in students (Kohn). On top of too much homework making standardized test scores lower, much of this homework is just busy work (Wolchover). Many teachers ask their student to re–write pages in a textbook. This just causes the student to spend time on something that has no real purpose. Remedial work has no positive effect on students. It just takes up more time ("Too Much Homework Can Cause Stress, Depression and Lower Grades, Studies Suggest"). Even homework that is useful in some way should be limited. Studies show that a student's time is more useful when they play an instrument or a sport. Parent's want their student to be good at many things. It is more important to be a well–rounded person than to ace all of your tests (Wolchover). One of the top Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Homework As A Good Thing Essay Roth, Grace AP Lang Period 6 October 19, 2016 Abstract Homework has been considered apart of every child's learning experience in America, but there are many downsides to homework. Homework prevents children from exploring the world they live in, besides just what they learn in the classroom and prevents many other activities. Along with this, homework can be very unhealthy is child's life due to the amount of stress it causes. There is also evidence that suggests homework has no affect on learning and in many cases is counter productive. Homework causes many conflicts within families and is in many households left to the parents and not the students. The evidence of homework being a good thing is outweighed by the evidence that shows how homework can be a negative thing in many students lives. Citations Copping, J. (2014, January 16). • 3. Persuasive Essay On Homework What the public is concerned about is if homework should even be assigned? Homework was contrived to prepare students and help them engage them in the content being taught. Homework also enacts time management skills and responsibility of growing young adults. Although the debate about if homework should be given minimally or in discretion and that homework has no verified benefits still stands. Homework is necessary for causing students to be engaged in the content taught and delivers time management skills for the future. The stance that homework is necessary and helps students engage in the content and learn time management skills is one I concede with assiduously. Homework is given to students to help them retain the information they learned in class and leads to academic achievement. Many research studies have found evidence of a positive correlation between homework and student achievement. Since students are given homework nightly, it will help them absorb the content and they can score higher on a test or quiz. Homework also helps students develop responsibility and life skills, and prepares students in time management skills. Research claims the ability to manage tasks provides essential learning, increased motivation, and academic benefits. When students engage in homework it makes them more successful and independent in the long run. Although homework may take up time after an extracurricular and can lead to less sleep; for example, a student doing a sport after school, getting home and having to do homework on top of that. Doing an extracurricular and still completing homework are inherently important, students will gain time management skills if they are doing both. If a student can learn to juggle an extracurricular with homework it will help them learn life skills. Homework will lead to the academic growth, achievement, and the success of a student. The stance that homework is important, but discretion can and should be used when assigning it is one I partially concede with. Homework should be given in the accounts of different classes, since not all classes are the same. Homework is given in regards to class type (CP, Honors, Advanced–Placement), homework severs different classes by rigor Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Essay about The Harmful Effects of Homework The Harmful Effects of Homework High school students feel more stress than working adults, and children are beginning to feel aversion towards learning. Both adolescents and children are at risk of health issues due to anxiety and less time is spent with family, playing, and sleeping. The cause for all of this is too much homework that is suffocating students. Homework causes students to sleep less, have more stress, and even forces students to give up extracurricular activities. These negative results can be improved by reducing the homework load. Students continue to work late into the night to meet the pressing homework deadlines, sacrificing much needed sleep. According to the National Sleep Foundation, teens need 8.5 to 9.25 hours ...show more content... However there was a positive correlation with success and sleep (Suskind). Homework can get in the way of activities that lead to better success. If the homework load is lessened, kids can have more time to sleep, which is very important to a child's and teenager's development. Many health issues occur when students do not get enough sleep. The Medical Division of Sleep Medicine at Harvard Medical School published a research article that states a lack of sleep aids in the development of diseases such as obesity, heart disease, and diabetes.(Sleep and Disease Risk)The article shows that students need sleep, and with the balancing of school, activities, and home it cuts into time for sleep. With the sleep deprivation and a large workload students are very prone to health issues and stress. Homework is a large contributing factor to a student's stress.Researchers surveyed students in 10 high–performing schools in California, and found that 56% of the students stated that homework was a primary stressor (Strauss). Reducing the amount of homework would be more beneficial to students than not. As students go throughout the school day the homework they get from each class piles up. Many students believe that homework is pointless since some teachers never look it over, and give a small amount of points for all of their work. Now this is not to say that homework should be worth more points. Rather, the amount of homework should be equal to the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. What Does Homework Mean To You Essay People often say there aren't enough hours in the day, or there is not enough time to help out, or do homework, or do anything new that they want to do with someone that they want to do it with. School gives you a ton of homework, especially in college with both reading material and assignments. For someone like me, who struggles with reading, there just seems to be no point because I have a hard time comprehending what I read. It takes so long. I find time to work on my assignments little by little. It is hard for me to balance school, homework and working. I am fortunate that in my job I have a lot of down time which enables my being able to work on my homework while at work. My bosses are very understanding and encourage me to do well with Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Homework: Beneficial or Not? What is homework? Most students might say that homework is a time waster and is unrelated to learning. Both are logical statements in the eyes of the average student, but what are the facts and why is homework part of our school curriculum? Homework has been a standing tradition in America since the 1950's due to the education war with the Soviets. Ever since the ending of the Cold War in the early 1990's, the American consensus openly welcomed homework as a part of school curriculum. Homework is in our modern American roots, and it is so effective it has stayed in our foundation. Homework is beneficial to young scholars in our school system to this date: it is helpful and beneficial in the way to reinforce knowledge learned in schools, it provides clarity and room for the short class schedule, and it also forces the need to use responsibility and time management. Reviewing and reinforcing topics learned in school is an important way to clarify and to extend the realm of comprehension that students need in order to pass standardized tests with flying colors! Some students may not fully understand the topic, such as "systems of equations" in math, and may not notice their ignorance for a certain part until they try to do their homework. Of course, that is why there are teachers and not textbooks that stare at you in class, however, learning and understanding topics on your own during silence and solidarity may be beneficial to most students. • 7. Thesis Statement Against Homework The Case Against Homework: Homework/it is "All pain and no gain" There is very very little, if any, correlation between homework and test scores Not a single study has ever supported the folk wisdom that homework teaches good study habits and self–discipline. Most of homework is assigned as busywork to keep kids busy, assuming that they will waste their time. A lot of teachers feel pressured to assign homework by tradition, administrators, and/or parents. Most of the folk wisdom that homework is good and helps your academic achievement, test scores, responsibility, study habits, and to connect with your family has either been proven wrong, the opposite, or has not been proven at all. Homework only allows kids to grow academically, because it takes up so much time to do, they don't have time to do anything other than...show more content... • 9. Descriptive Essay About Homework Gemless As I parked in the gravel filled lot I settled in my car for a few minutes contemplating homework from each of my classes. I stepped outside with my belongings; there was a slight breeze from the remnants of Hurricane Harvey. Clouds dotted the orange tinted sky as the sun tried to climb up to be fully seen. The day right from the start seemed like a good day so I went about smiling and walked blissfully to my normal seat next to my friends. We prepared for the coming classes that day. The deafening bell sounded and we were on our way to start the actual day. My classmates and I walked joyfully through the hallways, joking and laughing before reaching our first period destination. I made my way to the front of the classroom and sat down. The air was crisp so I took out my jacket and put it on. Our teacher walked in a few minutes late and started to take attendance. The whole classroom focused on him. After he finished taking attendance, he slowly reached down into a drawer and pulled out a stack of papers. I stared in disbelief. The stack of papers he pulled out was actually a pop–test. I took the pop–test trying to recall everything that we had learned over the course of two weeks. I focused on the test for most of the class period and finally turned it in. The morning weather seemed to just be a ruse. This was not a blissful or good day; it took a turn for the worst. I sat there in the chilling room trying to think of something else to keep Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. The Importance of Homework Essay Students spend hours doing it, teachers spend hours checking it. Homework is sometimes a burden to teachers and students but still it is necessary. Some people doubt homework's effectiveness, but teachers and researchers agree homework is essential. Homework helps students get better grades in school. Some people don't know exactly what homework is. Homework is defined as an out of class activity assigned to students as an extension or elaboration of classroom work(KidSource). There are three types of homework teachers generally give out. The first is Practice assignments, they are assignments that reinforce newly acquired skills or knowledge(KidSource). An example of these assignments is writing definitions down for new words ...show more content... Parents, students, and teachers all sometimes wonder how useful is homework? Though studies examining the relationship between homework and school achievement have been inclusive(ERIC). Still many teachers and researchers still agree that homework helps students achieve higher grades in school. Schools that assigned homework frequently showed higher student achievement than schools that assigned little homework(ERIC). This means that homework is working. Studies have generally found that if teachers carefully plan homework, homework can be quite helpful(KidSource). Homework has proven its effectiveness and is a very powerful factor in student performance. Students should only spend enough time on homework so that the subject is reinforced and not just a waste of time. The national PTA suggest that from K–3 grades there should be no more than 20 minutes a day, for 4–6 grades there should be 20–40 minutes of homework, and from 7–12 grades time varies do to types of subjects and number of subjects taken(KidSource). Anymore than these recommended amount of times is seen excessive by the national PTA. Surprisingly U.S. students are working as hard as Asians: 24% of eighth graders do more then two hour of homework compared to Japans 28% and Germanys 17%(Brimelow108). Are we working to hard, researchers don't think so, U.S. student grades are improving. As of 1996 one in every sixth grader does more than an hour of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Importance Of Homework "Tal!" "What mom!" "Did you finish your homework?" "No," I was tired. I had lots of homework but it was only 5:00. I had 4 hours before nine. That was when I had to sleep. Or in my case, play games on my iPad until I become sleepy and I realize I didn't finish my homework. I'm Tal. I'm a 13 year old boy and I live with my brother Kai. He's 9. We all live in Saratoga. I have lots of homework but I don't do it in time. I do it at night. "Hey Tal!" Kai! What does he want now? "I'm going to play with my friends." He blurted. Now I'm finishing my homework. I want to play my friends too. A few days later my mom asks me if I want to play with my friends. I said yes. Of course, she wanted me to finish my homework first. Well, because of my homework I never have time to play with my friends. I don't understand the importance of doing that. Homework is a waste of time. Since I despise homework, I decide to give up school during the second trimester. After a few months my mom asks me, "Tal," I sense something is wrong. I brace myself for the screaming. I know why. Then it happens. I could feel her cool breath as she screamed at me. Her breath is cool because she makes lettuce strips for lunch when she is angry or nervous. This is because she likes playing with the strips in the water. When she is really angry I can tell because she makes the lettuce strips stick together with melted cheese and adds chicken to make a healthy sandwich. This Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Cause And Effect Of Homework This day in age, high school students are feeling more stress than working adults, and kids are starting to swerve away from learning. Both teens and children are at risk of health problems due to anxiety and a shortage of family time, playing, and sleeping. Public schools have 6 hours to cover what homeschools cover in 4, and yet it seems as if school follows teens home. The cause for all of this is too much homework. Homework causes students to sleep less, have more stress, and even forces students to give up extracurricular activities. This is currently a huge problem in our society and there's proof to show that it causes nothing but harm. Homework may be thought of to help kids improve their test scores and studies, but this common misconception has our whole school systems fooled beyond belief. Over the years, the study of this controversial topic has been operated heavily. For example, Duke University psychology professor Harris Cooper conducted studies called the 2006 Meta Analysis that are heavily renowned in the community (Cooper 2). Some studies he examined showed homework can cause physical and emotional fatigue, fuel negative attitudes about learning and limit leisure time for children. This is beyond true nowadays, where our school systems push kids to sleep less, stress more, and spend less time with family. The fact that most of us students get less than the recommended 8 hours a night and are given on average one hour of homework per class is awful to think about, and should make people realize that this debate is a no brainer. Students with depression and anxiety disorders is at an all time high, and homework is to blame. Homework is a growing issue due to the fact that so much is assigned, which is making our students lose sleep at night. "more than 87 percent of high school students in the United States get far less than the recommended eight to 10 hours, and the amount of time they sleep is decreasing – a serious threat to their health, safety and academic success." (Richter 3) Fatigued students can play a role into failure. Students getting less sleep at night and starting school early in the morning can result in low test scores, less production on take–home assignments, and overall Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Persuasive Essay On The Importance Of Homework "To be ready for tomorrow's opportunities, do your homework today. Learn, refine your skills, and focus on growth." This quote by an unknown person perfectly demonstrates the importance of homework. What this quote is trying to say is that in order to be prepared for the opportunities life gives you, do your homework first. It'll prepare you for the future. Although homework takes time to finish, it is very beneficial in several different ways. Homework teaches students the importance of responsibility, time management, and self–respect. Assignments given to children from school to do at home, helps students review and remember the lessons taught that day or week. Even if students dislike school work, it is undoubtedly essential. Definitely, most agree that school work is very tiring. However, they do not realize how homework teaches students responsibility. By doing school work, they have a sense of responsibility which will help them be successful in the future. A company would unquestionably hire a person who knows how to be responsible and will do their work when told. If the person is consistent and is responsible with their work and time, the company will surely promote them. Which means that the person will be paid higher, feel better about themselves, and will try harder to earn the company's trust. The benefits of responsibility and homework are unmistakable. Responsibility will also help students get better grades. People know they are responsible for their grades and their assignments getting completed. So if they take the initiative to finish their homework, then their effort will show through how well they're doing in school. Good grades mean getting into good colleges and universities. Through responsibilities, students learn that they are accountable for their actions and know they will have consequences if they don't do something. An example of taking responsibility is when a student hasn't done their homework. The teacher punishes the student by not letting the student go home after school has ended. The student learns the importance of homework and responsibility. Next time, the student should finish their homework. As seen in the example, by not doing homework, the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Persuasive Essay About Homework Can you agree that lately "homework" is being largely misguided? Can you agree that "homework" is being abused without producing its primary intended results? I highly urge you on behalf of all students operating through this system; change is needed. The current use of homework may be contributing to the decline in the motivation of students; therefore, interfering with their academic potential. Evidently, there has been an abundance of research which shows how homework is detrimental to a teen's self–confidence, social skills, overall health, and most importantly their attitude towards school. Why am I directing this straight to the teachers? Teachers have full control over what they hand out and what they demand from students. Teachers also have the authority to practice their style of teaching and alter them accordingly. Every teacher should consider the unhealthy and negative outcomes which come with the homework system. In every student's life, a teacher is another character you will meet who is supposed to guide, motivate, and support you through your journey in life. Teachers are rather more like mentors. However, this concept has escaped for a majority of students because of the pressure and the endless amount of stress which is constantly being stacked on top of each other. In 2013, researchers from Stanford surveyed more than 4,300 students from high schools in California. One of the questions the researchers asked the students was; did you experience any Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Essay On Homework Homework is something that has been required for generations. Homework, like anything has many ups and downs, many positives and negatives, many highs and lows, whatever you want to call them. Homework ranges from kindergarten to college, and quite possibly your future job. Homework is something that is unavoidable, it will always be there, no matter how much you try to avoid it. Homework can be described as useless busy work that is assigned to students, but doesn't necessarily benefit them at all. Homework is something that causes students to miss multiple hours of sleep due to working on homework. It can be described as stressful, difficult, but one of the better words can describe homework as useless. Have you ever worked on a homework assignment and thought : "Why am I doing this?" Or have you ever been up hours past your curfew because you're working on homework? All teachers and bosses have different approaches when it comes to assigning homework. Some deadlines are more flexible, some assignments are longer, and some are an option for students to do. The big question still remains : "Does homework benefit students?" If you're thinking that homework does benefit students, let's take a close look at how much homework can actually benefit students. If a student has 7 class periods a day, and 6 of those class periods include homework. That student is having to worry about 6 tasks, generally spending a minimum of 3 to 4 hours working on homework. If that task is long, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Persuasive Essay On Homework Picture this; You just got home from a long hard stressful day of school and now you can relax. Oh wait you can't. This is because you have more arduous work to do. So you grab a snack sit down and pull out your homework. You then begin to write down everything you have to do on a list so you have an idea of what you are going to have to do tonight. The list begins with your double sided fifty question math sheet, three page science document, Social studies notes, followed by a reading SCR, and a writing short story. But wait, it gets worse, on top of all that homework you have a Math test to study for. Yes this seems very over the top. But it's not, this is what many HMS students struggle with on a daily basis. Yes homework can be helpful and beneficial for students but is there a point where enough homework is enough. One survey taken throughout HMS pod 7/8c shows that 65% of students spend 1–3 hours of of their time every day on homework. The same survey shows that 19% of students spend 4 or more hours on there home work and that only 16% spend less than an hour. Yes an hour may not seem like a lot of time but the last thing students want to do after 7 hours of work is even more work. Which is also why less than 8% of students do their homework right when they get home meaning that a whopping more than 92% of students procrastinate when they have homework. These numbers are no coincidence, many of these students who procrastinate are probably procrastinating simply Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Essay on Does Homework Actually Help Students Everyone at one point in time has complained they have had too much homework. Especially in High School. I was always told homework will help me because it is a way to practice and fully master the material I needed to learn. In high school students spend a few hours a night doing what they see as busy work, meaning they do not think it is helping them at all. Some students do not mind work load. They feel doing the problems, writing the short responses, filling out packets, helps them because they practice and remember the material. Aquestion that has come up is whether assigning packets of homework, mostly finding a word and it's definition, will help students master material better than assigning less or none at all. I believe that...show more content... In cases like this, students do not learn the material. By simply writing many definitions, or even writing wrong definitions, students do not grasp a deep understanding of concepts or main points of the material. As stated in the book Helping Your Child with Homework, the best type of homework assignments are the type that include some kind of feedback from the teacher to the student; the homework assigned to students should also be at a level appropriate for the students learning abilities, and the assignments should challenge the student intellectually (book citation). Packets filled with simple questions such as " what is meiosis" or "give the definition of simile" do not challenge students and teachers do not give much, or any, feedback to students with this type of homework. Many argue that it is difficult for teachers to give feedback when they teach one hundred or more students. The amount of papers they need to grade is high and they simply do not have the time to write comments on every assignment. My answer to this is simple. Instead of assigning packets of homework, assign a few critical thinking questions. The students would give a brief summary on the main concept, then perhaps paraphrase a definition that is important to know. Students would then really think about their answers and the teacher could give comments since they will no longer have to skim packets. Teachers would only have to read Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Why Homework Is Important Essay Homework that has a purpose means it is effective. In an article from DataWorks–Educational Research, Copper says, "Some teachers assign 'shotgun homework': blanket drills, questions, and problems. Students are given homework that is not furthering the concepts and skills. The homework is assigned because it has been drilled into our collective mind that homework produces higher performing students." If teachers want to have effective homework it should cover something that was already taught and include skills they have learned. Not things students are not understanding well. The Fundamental Five A article from Educational Leadership states, there is five main tasks that homework should have for the students actually to be getting something out of it. The first one is, having a clear academic point and purpose. To do something like that you could have a checking in with it the student. Another reason is you can tell the student is learning something with it. Next is, there should be different choices for the different type of students. Many students learn at different paces and have to spend way more time on their homework than other classmates. The fourth thing is they should be able to complete this by themselves and not having a lot of extra help. This shows the students they are capable of doing something by themselves. Lastly, the students take an interest in the work and for the most part find it enjoyable. When there is a clear point to homework it makes it Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Gaps that needed to be filled were sufficient funding for launching the app, they needed four different venture capital installments to get the project off the ground, talent was mostly there in the beginning and the founder experience helped them recognize the talent they needed. There was also a period of retailer fatigue. 1–26: Identify the features and benefits the founders included in the app to ensure its popularity. Why were these selected? One of the biggest benefits and features of Foursquare is that it is a mobile app and easily accessible from any mobile device. Crowley and Salvadaurai thought it would be a good idea to build incentives into the app which would potentially increase usage and improve the user's experience. One incentive was to award virtual badges for the number or variety of check–ins to particular locations visited. Users were also able to receive discounts and incentives from advertisers when they check–in such as free items. Crowley and Salvadaurai also designed the

  • 21. The Importance Of Homework School, Sports, Shower, Eat, Homework, Repeat. Teens face the struggles of not having any time to finish their homework much less having any time to do their favorite activities. Despite all of these issues when the going get's tough you should try taking your mind off of it, talk to someone you trust, or work harder with even more focus toward your goal. I know when I'm stressed or upset about something my mom will always tell me to step away from the situation for a little bit and do something I like to do so I can calm down and then revisit my homework or the situation after. In Boy 21 after Finley talked about what happened to his mom and grandpa, Russ asked "So that's when you stopped talking?" and Finley said "Yeah. It's also when I started playing basketball" (Quick 232). When Finley went through that rough time in his life with his mom passing away and grandpa getting his legs cut off, basketball became his passion and what he loved to do. Anytime he was playing he would feel like nothing else mattered in the world. In this Finley teaches us that a passion in itself could be a cure to dealing with life's issues. Some people are too proud to ask for help and they are the ones who really need it the most. Those who don't get help fall deeper and deeper into a hole and end up going insane because they have everything bottled up. In Boy 21 Russ says, "Let's talk about what happened to our parents. I really think it might help. I talk to my therapist all the time. You Get more content on HelpWriting.net
