Remote sensing is the technology of acquiring information about the Earth's surface using sensors on satellites or aircraft without direct contact. It works by sensing and recording reflected or emitted electromagnetic energy from the Earth and processing and analyzing that data. The electromagnetic spectrum includes visible light, infrared, microwave, radio waves, ultraviolet, x-rays, and gamma rays. Different parts of the spectrum interact with Earth's surface in different ways, allowing remote sensing to gather a variety of information from space.
