Introduction
The technical and social development of the world and society has also changed the
standards of the education industry. It has become critical for the teachers to develop unique
skills and capabilities to provide quality teaching services to the students by managing
diversity and flexibility (Fitzgerald, et al., 2019). Thus, to be an effective and successful
teacher, and the individual should always seek for his/her professional development. A
personal professional development plan is a process of improving individual skills and
capabilities to match the industry standards. The plan includes goals of development along
with the required actions, timeline, and justification about the importance of goal
achievement. The proposed professional development is developed by me to achieve my
goals of teaching in Aotearoa New Zealand and make a plan to support my learning and
development.
Part 1: Professionalgoals
a. My three major professional goals are:
Goal 1:
To enhance my professional understanding of the diversity available in the education
environment, so that I can foster quality and creative learning environment for the
international as well as local students. Here, I will focus on learning two different strategies
related to culture and diversity management.
Goal 2:
To develop my skills for developing a collaborative working environment with the
peers and leaners and reflect my professional work integrity to the cultural heritage in the
Aotearoa New Zealand. I am looking to develop knowledge on 3 different team management
strategies to achieve this goal.
Goal 3:
To improve the technical competencies, teach learners in the classroom, and find
different strategies to ease them to use technology during the classroom. I will improve my
learning about the virtual education classes and use of minimum 3 different educational
applications to connect students in virtual classes as well.
b. Connection between teaching standard and goal:
The teaching profession in Aotearoa New Zealand is based on some standards to
maintain the teaching quality and ensure that all the students will get the best quality
4
education. In the rapidly changing technology trends, having some critical skills such as
fostering change, and peer relationships, being a lifetime learner, having both technical and
non-technical competencies to deal with the students with the different cultural environment
along with integrity and ethics to develop a constructive and safe educational environment for
the students (Teaching Council New Zealand, 2020).
My first goal is related to standard of “professional learning in Aotearoa New
Zealand”. These standards also promoted positive relationships with peers, learning, and their
families and the community within ethical boundaries by improving knowledge about
diversity environment of learning (Lim, Fickel, & Greenwood, 2019).
Further, some other standards for the teaching profession include developing a
creative learning environment of the students and promote respect and quality among the
diversified range of the students and focusing in collaborative development with peers. This
is known as “professional relationship” standard of teaching, which is related to my second
goal.
My professional goals, as mentioned above, are aligned with these standards as I want
to improve my teaching style and leadership abilities to foster education and teach them an
want to enhance my abilities and to strengthen my relationship with the peer, students, and
other stakeholders in the industry. Here, technological development is also essential to
promote creativity and technical learning environment, it is related to standard of “teaching”
and link with my third goal.
c. Prioritisation of goal:
My teaching goals are presented above are in a sequence of priority, as 1, 2, and 3.
Firstly achievement of goal 1 is important to develop an understanding about the diversity
available in the education environment and how teaching profession can be creative as much
as position by focusing on improvement of professional learning standard. It will lead me
towards the goal 2 to improve abilities to make a strong relationship with the leaners and
peers and help me to understand the cultural values of the environment and focus on growth
of learning about standard of professional relationship. After developing non-technical
competencies, the third goal will help me to improve technical competencies and enhance my
teaching methods which is all about the improvement of teaching standard.
5
Part 2: Inquiry
One of the major considerations to achieve my professional goal in the teaching field
is to empower all the students to reach their goals. This is expected from the teachers to
provide a high-quality teaching to student by following all the standards of the education with
participative and proactive leadership approaches.
a. Here, are the two inquiry questions, which will support me to achieve my professional
goals:
i. How can I use the modern teaching strategies and approaches in a best way to develop
a creative and diversified learning environment for my students?
ii. How can I teach my lesson more effectively by engaging all the students of class from
different cultural backgrounds under the education culture of Aotearoa New Zealand?
b. Outline of steps to complete the inquiry question one:
This is based on the spiral inquiry model:
Scanning I need to change my strategies and
approaches because of changing in
educational environment and standards
expectations student and parents.
Focus My focus will be on learning about new
strategies and teaching approaches by
analysing that where I am lacking?
How I can learn these strategies and
approaches
Developing a hunch Seeking evidence from available literature,
news and industry reports, personal
observation and discussing with seniors
New Learning Informal and formal assessment by
including diversified areas of learning,
educational technique, changing pattern of
teachings strategies, high involvement of
technology
Taking actions Joining workshops and seminars to improve
teaching strategies (Minimum 2 workshop
in a month)
6
Enrolling for short term training and
development session for professional
development (2-4 weeks courses)
Checking Improvement in knowledge and confidence
to cope with the dynamic educational
environment
Table 1: Steps to complete inquiry (Source: Learner)
c. Different perspectives:
Here, the perspective of several people in the education industry is valuable for me to
strengthen my inquiry. Here a discussion on my inquiry with my peers and colleagues is very
significant because they are also teaching in the same learning environment. I evaluated the
perspective of one of my colleagues on my inquiry. According to her, there is no such
strategy of teaching students, as it depends on an individual’s personality and teaching style.
An individual should have to be proactive to respond to the changing scenario of teaching.
Further, another perspective, which is important for me is from ‘the head of the
teaching department, who can assist me to learn about the dynamic nature of education
industry and changing demands and expectation of educational facilitators along with the
students and their families. He suggested me that the education sector also requires a strategic
approach to develop critical thinking and improve the style of dealing with the stakeholders
such as students, their families, peer, educational committee. In the education sector, students
come to learn, which eventually shapes their ideas and influences their personalities, so to be
innovative, creative, and respecting their value, evidence-based teaching should be used.
Besides, my students have perspectives that a teacher should be friendlier and open to
the students so that they can share their all concerns with them about study and courses,
lesson plans. If the teacher wants to promote a collaborative culture to develop a creative
learning environment, he/she should encourage students to work as a team.
All these perspectives are useful for me to engage with my inquiry questions and to
assist me to improve my teaching strategies and approaches.
d. Preliminary literature search:
For inquiry 1, which is proposed by me in the above section, several research studies
have been conducted. With a critical analysis, it has been evaluated that to develop a creative
learning environment in the classroom and engage students, different teaching strategies and
7
methods can be adopted. As per the study of Gajda, Beghetto & Karwowski (2017), adopting
a multi-dimensional approach of teaching is important, which included visual learning.
Brainstorming, and dynamic and blended methodologies of interaction by including
technologies. This will also help teachers to promote a positive attitude towards cultural
diversity as interaction and learning through different patterns will help to develop a
collaborative environment. It is also supported by Sung, Hwang, & Chang (2016) that the use
of mobile and technologies to teach the students should be promoted to enhance their
understanding of the global world, technological assistance, and its benefits in education.
Further, I also found the study of Richardson & Mishra (2018) very useful for my
inquiry as this concludes that teachers should create different measures and SCALE to
promote creativity in the classroom learning and evaluate the student on these measures. A
comparative result will be shared with students to encourage them as per the standard of the
educational environment.
Part 3: Support networks
Following table presents the support network, which would help me to achieve the
goals and benefits associated with each of the networks:
Support Networks Benefits

  • 3. 3 Introduction The technical and social development of the world and society has also changed the standards of the education industry. It has become critical for the teachers to develop unique skills and capabilities to provide quality teaching services to the students by managing diversity and flexibility (Fitzgerald, et al., 2019). Thus, to be an effective and successful teacher, and the individual should always seek for his/her professional development. A personal professional development plan is a process of improving individual skills and capabilities to match the industry standards. The plan includes goals of development along with the required actions, timeline, and justification about the importance of goal achievement. The proposed professional development is developed by me to achieve my goals of teaching in Aotearoa New Zealand and make a plan to support my learning and development. Part 1: Professionalgoals a. My three major professional goals are: Goal 1: To enhance my professional understanding of the diversity available in the education environment, so that I can foster quality and creative learning environment for the international as well as local students. Here, I will focus on learning two different strategies related to culture and diversity management. Goal 2: To develop my skills for developing a collaborative working environment with the peers and leaners and reflect my professional work integrity to the cultural heritage in the Aotearoa New Zealand. I am looking to develop knowledge on 3 different team management strategies to achieve this goal. Goal 3: To improve the technical competencies, teach learners in the classroom, and find different strategies to ease them to use technology during the classroom. I will improve my learning about the virtual education classes and use of minimum 3 different educational applications to connect students in virtual classes as well. b. Connection between teaching standard and goal: The teaching profession in Aotearoa New Zealand is based on some standards to maintain the teaching quality and ensure that all the students will get the best quality
  • 4. 4 education. In the rapidly changing technology trends, having some critical skills such as fostering change, and peer relationships, being a lifetime learner, having both technical and non-technical competencies to deal with the students with the different cultural environment along with integrity and ethics to develop a constructive and safe educational environment for the students (Teaching Council New Zealand, 2020). My first goal is related to standard of “professional learning in Aotearoa New Zealand”. These standards also promoted positive relationships with peers, learning, and their families and the community within ethical boundaries by improving knowledge about diversity environment of learning (Lim, Fickel, & Greenwood, 2019). Further, some other standards for the teaching profession include developing a creative learning environment of the students and promote respect and quality among the diversified range of the students and focusing in collaborative development with peers. This is known as “professional relationship” standard of teaching, which is related to my second goal. My professional goals, as mentioned above, are aligned with these standards as I want to improve my teaching style and leadership abilities to foster education and teach them an want to enhance my abilities and to strengthen my relationship with the peer, students, and other stakeholders in the industry. Here, technological development is also essential to promote creativity and technical learning environment, it is related to standard of “teaching” and link with my third goal. c. Prioritisation of goal: My teaching goals are presented above are in a sequence of priority, as 1, 2, and 3. Firstly achievement of goal 1 is important to develop an understanding about the diversity available in the education environment and how teaching profession can be creative as much as position by focusing on improvement of professional learning standard. It will lead me towards the goal 2 to improve abilities to make a strong relationship with the leaners and peers and help me to understand the cultural values of the environment and focus on growth of learning about standard of professional relationship. After developing non-technical competencies, the third goal will help me to improve technical competencies and enhance my teaching methods which is all about the improvement of teaching standard.
  • 5. 5 Part 2: Inquiry One of the major considerations to achieve my professional goal in the teaching field is to empower all the students to reach their goals. This is expected from the teachers to provide a high-quality teaching to student by following all the standards of the education with participative and proactive leadership approaches. a. Here, are the two inquiry questions, which will support me to achieve my professional goals: i. How can I use the modern teaching strategies and approaches in a best way to develop a creative and diversified learning environment for my students? ii. How can I teach my lesson more effectively by engaging all the students of class from different cultural backgrounds under the education culture of Aotearoa New Zealand? b. Outline of steps to complete the inquiry question one: This is based on the spiral inquiry model: Scanning I need to change my strategies and approaches because of changing in educational environment and standards expectations student and parents. Focus My focus will be on learning about new strategies and teaching approaches by analysing that where I am lacking? How I can learn these strategies and approaches Developing a hunch Seeking evidence from available literature, news and industry reports, personal observation and discussing with seniors New Learning Informal and formal assessment by including diversified areas of learning, educational technique, changing pattern of teachings strategies, high involvement of technology Taking actions Joining workshops and seminars to improve teaching strategies (Minimum 2 workshop in a month)
  • 6. 6 Enrolling for short term training and development session for professional development (2-4 weeks courses) Checking Improvement in knowledge and confidence to cope with the dynamic educational environment Table 1: Steps to complete inquiry (Source: Learner) c. Different perspectives: Here, the perspective of several people in the education industry is valuable for me to strengthen my inquiry. Here a discussion on my inquiry with my peers and colleagues is very significant because they are also teaching in the same learning environment. I evaluated the perspective of one of my colleagues on my inquiry. According to her, there is no such strategy of teaching students, as it depends on an individual’s personality and teaching style. An individual should have to be proactive to respond to the changing scenario of teaching. Further, another perspective, which is important for me is from ‘the head of the teaching department, who can assist me to learn about the dynamic nature of education industry and changing demands and expectation of educational facilitators along with the students and their families. He suggested me that the education sector also requires a strategic approach to develop critical thinking and improve the style of dealing with the stakeholders such as students, their families, peer, educational committee. In the education sector, students come to learn, which eventually shapes their ideas and influences their personalities, so to be innovative, creative, and respecting their value, evidence-based teaching should be used. Besides, my students have perspectives that a teacher should be friendlier and open to the students so that they can share their all concerns with them about study and courses, lesson plans. If the teacher wants to promote a collaborative culture to develop a creative learning environment, he/she should encourage students to work as a team. All these perspectives are useful for me to engage with my inquiry questions and to assist me to improve my teaching strategies and approaches. d. Preliminary literature search: For inquiry 1, which is proposed by me in the above section, several research studies have been conducted. With a critical analysis, it has been evaluated that to develop a creative learning environment in the classroom and engage students, different teaching strategies and
  • 7. 7 methods can be adopted. As per the study of Gajda, Beghetto & Karwowski (2017), adopting a multi-dimensional approach of teaching is important, which included visual learning. Brainstorming, and dynamic and blended methodologies of interaction by including technologies. This will also help teachers to promote a positive attitude towards cultural diversity as interaction and learning through different patterns will help to develop a collaborative environment. It is also supported by Sung, Hwang, & Chang (2016) that the use of mobile and technologies to teach the students should be promoted to enhance their understanding of the global world, technological assistance, and its benefits in education. Further, I also found the study of Richardson & Mishra (2018) very useful for my inquiry as this concludes that teachers should create different measures and SCALE to promote creativity in the classroom learning and evaluate the student on these measures. A comparative result will be shared with students to encourage them as per the standard of the educational environment. Part 3: Support networks Following table presents the support network, which would help me to achieve the goals and benefits associated with each of the networks: Support Networks Benefits Goal 1:  Peer networking such as My colleagues  Tertiary Education Commission  Through peer networking I can concentrate on different challenges, discuss problem, and get ideas to overcome and share my experience.  Helpful for me to conduct an in- depth inquiry  TEC offer training to teachers, support to build career to offering best knowledge and creative training programs, events and career services. Goal 2:  Education committee of school  Education committee will support me to enhance my understanding of the standards
  • 8. 8  Virtual learning Network (VLN) of education and the culture of the country. The induction and training programs offer by the management of the institute will be beneficial for me to learn about my peers, their competitive knowledge and experience and strategies to collaborate them effectively.  Through VLN, I can learn in a vibrant online space by connecting teachers in the international environment, share experiences, learn about different challenges and strategies to overcome to work in a team.  By following this, I can improve my communication skills, cope with my peers, and teach learners about the cultural values and integrity and ethics which need to be followed in the classroom. Goal 3:  Different academic journals of education and teaching  Personal training institutes and government training workshops  By gaining understanding from the available literature related to use of technology in education and applying this knowledge in the real world, I can get opportunities for analysing the different perspectives and changing trends of the education industry.
  • 9. 9  By joining personal training institute, I can polish my skills and improve understanding about the different technologies and education applications and develop my technical competencies to teach students.
