Write An Essay About Andy Warhol
Andy Warhol was a famous artist known for creating rather odd popular culture art that really posed the question at the time about what was the
actual definition of "fine art." He was born in the 1920s, and his career spanned the decades of the 1960s through the 1980s. Warhol started his
career in New York as a commercial illustrator and it seems was quite content with his career in the communications/marketing industry. He
eventually did try to become an artist and reportedly had trouble breaking into the fine art scene, but he was able to break in with likely the biggest
statement of all and one that was brand new to the art scene of his time. His message was that all of his art both written and drawn were his way to
"prove that all...show more content...
His mass production reportedly was a metaphor for the mass commercialism of that time, and his move from art creation to marketing seemed to also
mimic the mass production and new technology explosion that was occurring during his time. Warhol was a peculiar individual who was quite
reserved and quiet due this rather secluded childhood years, and so it was not easy for the public to delve into his mindset with regard to what his art
represented and what he was trying to accomplish in his many artistic endeavors – according to Empty Easel.com, "...if you could somehow ask him, I
think Andy Warhol would probably say that all of it, EVERYTHING he did, was art." References

Andy Warhol
Warhol was successful in bringing a new form of art to the forefront of an ever changing artworld in the 1960`s. I am interested in the field of
commercial and graphic art and it's connection to advertising.
That's why I have chosen Warhol as my subject for this essay.
I'm going to focus on the techniques and images he used on his paintings.
Andy Warhol is one of the world's most renown artists. He was a painter, a photographer, a filmmaker, a publisher of Interview magazine and he
loved a good party. Andy reflected many aspects of American culture as no one had done before him. He was as famous for his weird appearance;
silver wigs, crazy glasses as for his striking short answers to questions. Warhol was born in...show more content...
This article proved his reliability and skills, and it helped him get other such jobs, for example illustrating adds for Harper's Bazaar and vogue. He
became one of the most wanted illustrators of women's accessories in New York and was awarded the Art Directors' Club Medal for his designs of
newspaper advertisements.
Much of his future material can be placed in the category of such common, everyday objects, that were focused on in these early times. Nearly all of
Warhol's works relate in one way or another to the commercially mass–produced machine product.
Although Warhol did receive recognition for much of his commercial illustrations during those times, he was constantly pursuing another career, as a
serious artist. Unfortunately, Warhol was not so successful at first in obtaining this goal. His delicate ink drawings of shoes and cupids, among
various others, had no place in a decade dominated by such heroic artists as William de Kooning and Jackson Pollock.
But then he began working on a process called silk–screening. A large photographic image is transferred to a silk screen, placed on a canvas and
inked from the back.
It was this technique that enabled him to produce a series of mass media images beginning in 1962. This series is generally regarded as a comment on
the banality and harshness of American culture while celebrating its most recognisable icons.

Andy Warhol Influence
Andy Warhol is considered to be one of the most impactful artists to work in the later
half of the 20th century. His work challenged the institution of art in so many ways, from the
integration of popular culture iconography to his method of production in his "Factory"; Warhol
confronted what made art "art", and redefined it throughout the span of his career. Personally,
Warhol was obsessed with celebrity and mass reproduction of commodities of any kind. This
infatuation greatly influenced the way he worked, by using screen–print, and appropriating
images from pop–culture of the 60's, he was able to gain the infamy he so adored. The infamous

There's nothing behind it." (Reeve, pg. 661). Expanding further on the
notion that his work was obvious and lacked substance. Unlike Warhol, Marcel Duchamp, who
influenced movements like Dada, Pop, and Conceptualism poked fun and questioned the
institution by challenging them with thought provoking works like "Fountain" (1917) and Etant
donnes (1946–66). These works, unlike Warhol's, had meaning and confronted topics like
voyeurism, irony, humor, and capitalism (The Art Story). Warhol may be compared to Duchamp,
however, their efforts seem very different, even at face value. The work that took place at the
factory was experimental in nature, but included a slew of studio assistants that aided Warhol in
the process of removing the artist from the art and questioned the value of the "artist's hand"
within the work (Guggenheim Museum). This concept brought critics and fans alike, but either
way, Warhol was still talked about, obsessed over, and scrutinized. All things the modern
celebrity faces.

How Did Andy Warhol Influence Art
Andy Warhol was loved by everyone due to view and of course his art. Andy Warhol rose to become famous in several ways and soon became the
most controversial artist of the 21st century. His views, as well as his art, was associated with the Pop Art Movement in the 1960s. The famous art
made by Andy didn't just changed our view on art, it change art entirely. People were drawn toAndy Warhol for a multiple of reasons. One reason was
his complex view on art. Andy's art was involved a sense of color that was unprecedented at the time, yet it looked printed. While most artist didn't
understand his views, it caught the attention of the people of the U.S. and soon the people of the world. An example of this is when he let a helium

The attitude of Warhol only confused society more. Instead of hiding his association with commercial art as other artists did, drawing and dividing
the line between it and real art, he erased the line. "The Pop artists did images that anybody walking down Broadway could recognize in a split
second."(Warhol) Pop artist figures competed in that art market where images and auras, no just objects, are offered for consumption. Warhol has
never objected to this state of affairs, which he did so much to reveal – and indeed, to push to new extremes of sophistication. Warhol introduced
society to a new kind of art that is now being recognized as real art, he pushed to boundaries and so called standards to the traditional ways.

He produced the Campbell's Soup Can series in 1962 and the more famous prints of Marilyn Monroe in 1964.
To expand Andy's finances, Fred Hughes encouraged him to concentrate on his paintings. Andy's Swiss dealer, Bruno Bischofberger, thought Andy
should paint a series on a world leader for an exhibit at his gallery. He suggested Albert Einstein. Andy thought that Chairman Mao, the dictator of
China, would be a better choice. "I've been reading so much about China...the only picture they ever have is of Mao Zedong. It's great. It looks like
a silkscreen."(Warhol, p.117 price of pop) Bruno insisted that on one, especially Americans, would but them, since Mao was a widely hated
communist. As usual Andy stuck to his instincts and set out to silkscreen a set of prints, line drawings, and paintings of the Chinese leader. Mao
symbolized power over the lives of billions of people. Although, if Andy had lived in communist China during the Cultural Revelation, he most likely
would have been imprisoned. Mao suppressed creativity, especially in the arts. But Andy felt sure that capitalist American collectors would find the
images of Chairman Mao, both alien and familiar at the same time, irresistible. Based on the official photograph of Mao, the portraits were done in a
freer brushstroke than previous paintings, with a looser background of color over which the image was printed. By adding lines around the face for
emphasis, Warhol tried to make Mao as

Hailed as the founding father of the Pop Art movement in the late 1950's and early 1960's, Andy Warhol, through his endeavors, brought forward
society's obsession with mass culture and allowed it to become the subject of his art. He produced works that defied and challenged the popular notion
of what art should be by disputing the "traditional conventions pertaining to the uniqueness, authenticity, and authorship" of art (Faerna 28). However,
it is an injustice to say that Warhol's goals primarily included the desire to create such a ground–breaking and salient style of American art or to
entertain the public by making his own artistic contributions. Rather, Andy Warhol's interests were more entwined in his own self–interest and greed.

Ultimately, these early "rituals" were precursors to the prolific and materialistic lifestyle Warhol would later choose to live. Later on in Andy Warhol's
artistic career, his actions and vocalizations would further verify his enthusiasm towards securing unfathomable amounts of materialistic possessions
and popularity. In one of his philosophy books entitled: The Philosophy of Andy Warhol, he informed his readers that "buying is much more American
than thinking and [that he was] as American as they come" (Bourdon 352). This attitude contributed to the large sums of money that went into securing
the priceless decoration pieces that he used to outfit "The Factory," his multi–floored studio. The Factory was bejeweled with a variety of ornate and
precious items such as "nineteenth–century European bronze figures, dated English and American paintings, mahogany, rosewood, and bird's eye
maple furniture, and replicas of Egyptian artifacts" (Artelino.com). Regardless, no matter how much revenue Warhol earned, his childhood years
had left him with a fear of being poor and thus he always chose to walk around with several hundred bills to remind himself of his own wealth. He
even went so far as to sleep on a straw mattress cushioned by wads of bills; his logic being: "you only feel as rich as the money you have in your

Never before have I encountered more intriguing works of art than those done by
Andy Warhol. I have been curious about his life ever since I saw his work in
Milwaukee. I saw his famous work of the Campbell's Soup Can. By viewing this, one can tell he is not your average artist. I'm sure his life is full of
interesting events that shaped him into who he was. As an artist myself, I would like to get to know the background of his life. I may then be able to
appreciate his styles and understand why and how his works were created. His life is as interesting as his artistic masterpieces. Andrew Warhola (his

The rest of his short life was spent visiting with celebrities and keeping up with the world's times. He tried to understand how the rest of the world saw
things, but just never got there. Sadly, Warhol died of a heart failure on March 9, 1987, still wearing his famous blond hair wig. Andy's diaries are not
actual written records of his day to day accounts, but they are audio recordings of his phone conversations to Pat Hackett every Monday through
Friday (from Wednesday, November 24, 1976 to Tuesday, February 17, 1987, just weeks before his death). Warhol originally intended these daily
records to be documentation of his minor "business" expenses. He was just audited and felt the need to be extra careful. "In a
word it was a diary. But whatever its broader objective, its narrow one, to satisfy tax auditors, was always on my mind" (Warhol xvi). Later
on, he felt the diaries were a great way to explain his everyday occurrences for more than a decade of his life. This view of his life from his eyes is
probably the most balanced view ever given. He may have changed since the 60's, but it is still the truest representation of Andy, himself. He never
expressed the key happenings of his life; it's as if we, the readers, already knew them. He just usually mentions the quick everyday type things such as
a cab ride to uptown New York. The first major influence on Andy

Andy Warhol uses a unique and whimsical style when he creates one of his iconic pieces. Between the blotted lines and rubber stamps he uses to
create his work, he also uses aggressive and bold gestures of paint that set his work apart from other artists of his time. He casts a cool and ironic light
on the extensiveness of commercial culture and contemporary celebrity worship. Early in his career, he began to utilize the silkscreen process to
transfer photographic images to canvas; images of mass–produced consumer products and Hollywood film stars are among his most recognizable
subjects. The compilation of paintings was conceived after President Nixon's historic trip to China in 1972. "This series announced Warhol's return to

The one that was shown in the UMMA in Ann Arbor was a smaller canvas, which was very different than that seen elsewhere. Some of Warhol's
reproductions were as high has 14 feet tall. Between the use of synthetic polymer paint and silkscreen ink on the canvas it creates a visual eye
catching work of art. Warhol used ferocious paint strokes over the Great Helmsman's face, and used almost a full pastel color scheme throughout.
With a strong pastel blue background, and a pastel turquoise shirt painted over the Mao print, you can see the variation in strokes and thought put into
the whole painting. Both the background and the shirt are opaque however the layers that covers the face that was made with tints of red and some
orange were more translucent and had a harsher stroke to them rather than an even smooth layering that was a distinct dimension. Since there are
elements of layering between the opaque, translucent and silkscreen top layer the viewer is able to get some depth out of it when viewing the work
from a distance. This depth and levels of transparency create such flow and movement through the piece and cause your eye to flow freely throughout
it, just mesmerized by its execution. There is an incorporated texture with the print of Mao, which is black, and that adds another element to make the
piece bolder. This element of brings your eye directly to the piece rather than wandering the room to glimpse at the other great works found at

Pop art started in Great Britain during the mid–1950s and in the late 1950s was brought to the United states. Pop art was first introduced for
advertising and news purposes. Pop art was used in comic books, mundane cultural object, soup cans and ect. Andy Warhol's famous paintings were

Introduction: To discuss plagiarism, one must first define this term which all college students so deeply fear. In short, it is the taking of another
person's words, thoughts, or ideas and presenting them as one's own by not crediting the original author. Laws against plagiarism are instituted to
protect the expressive and intellectual creativity of original artists. But in the visual arts, there is a fine line between plagiarism and allusion, between
stealing someone's work and incorporating it. In this paper, I will look at three artists; Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and Louise Nevelson, to
evaluate whether or not some of their famous works of art are plagiarized. Andy Warhol: When speaking of American pop artist Andy Warhol and
the topic of plagiarism, one first comes upon his "Campbell's Soup Can" (1961) series wherein he reproduced several canvases of the classic
Campbell's soup can label. However, the recreation of this icon label is considered as an appropriation of a familiar item rather than plagiarism
because, "the public was unlikely to see the painting as sponsored by the soup company or representing a competing product." While this work and
some others were contested in his lifetime, I believe Warhol to be innocent of plagiarism. Rather, as a fine artist, he was...show more content...

How Did Andy Warhol Influence The Pop Art World
As a profound influence on the twentieth century pop art movement, Andy Warhol ascended to become a cornerstone in the modern art world. After
taking cues from society in the mid–twentieth century, as well as conversing with Muriel Latow, Warhol did what many artists strived to do but failed.
Andy also extracted many of his ideas from other artists and built on them. He put a culture on canvas and revolutionized pop art for a life time. The
nineteen sixties, seventies, and eighties were periods of self righteousness and discovery. With many new styles and beliefs arising during those eras,
Warhol's imagination would begin to produce ideas that were unheard of but revolutionary at the same time. American values were altered and so

The death of very popular movie star Marilyn Monroe sparked Warhol's interest to expose the realities of the pop culture. Monroe was a sex icon,
fashion icon, as well as a cultural icon for the nineteen fifties and sixties. "The potent memory of the pathos and mystery of Marilyn's death with the
long–lived speculation surrounding it elevated her to the greatest modern star status. Warhol's paintings participated in the public consolidation"
(Copplestone 25). "Andy exaggerated the features of Marilyn Monroe that had made her beautiful" (Bolton 19). Also, the popularity of celebrities
such as Jackie Kennedy and Elvis Presley soon began to sweep the nation (Wrbican). Warhol saw these people as icons for the sixties and also saw
them as an inspiration to what would become his new art works. Despite how happy, pretty, or ideal the celebrities seemed on television, they were
disasters in reality and Warhol executed his exposure of these secrets through pop art. After World War two had ended and the United States had
entered the Vietnam War, the theme of mortality became less shocking to the population than in the years prior. With the acceptance of such things,
Warhol decided to create a series of brutal artwork that would exemplify the understanding of life and death. "His series of death and disaster included
paintings of electric chairs, suicides, and car crashes" (Wrbican). Warhol wanted

Andy Warhol's Influence on the Art World Essay
When you go to an art show do you understand the symbolic interpretation of the pieces? Don't feel bad, most people don't. What's so upsetting about
that is that you really miss out on the experience. When I think about interpretation of art I think of Andy Warhol. Andy Warhol's use of iconography
changed not only the art world but the people who came into contact with his art. Once you understand his life and art, you will understand his art as a
symbolic representation. Andy Warhol (Andrew Warhola) was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on August 6, 1928. His parents were Julia and Ondrej

His early paintings had an unconventional, unique, and unfinished look about them. The images were known to everyone in everyday life. I was
looking at a bunch of Warhol's paintings and I was confused. I was just staring at them and I'm thinking "why don't you look like a Warhol?' Then
I realize that these paintings are from when he was younger. This was before he defined his aesthetic. I believe this was his discovering phase then
he goes into his silk screening phase. Andy Warhol used current icons from the world for his work. One of the famous icons was the Campbell's
soup can. In 1962 Warhol displayed his Campbell's soup piece, one canvas for each 32 types of Campbell's soup. In 1960, Warhol began producing
his first canvases, which he based on comic strip subjects. In 1961, he started using the method of silk screening. Silk screening starts with a stencil
drawing then transferred with glue onto silk. Warhol's first silkscreen was Campbell's Soup cans. Campbell's Soup was an icon in the 1960s that gave
you a sense of comfort. In spite of that, Warhol's Soup Can paintings were to provoke concern about value. At first glance it may seem like a joke but
it's actually a sophisticated and thought–provoking artistic statement. In the 1960s Andy Warhol made a sculpture that was extension of what Warhol
had done with the Campbell's Soup Cans, Brillo Boxes. The Brillo Boxes were made out of wood but made to look accurately like the boxes found in

Andrew said that his name was accidentally changed to Warhol. He says that it was never a conscious decision, it rather happened over time.
Regardless, the name change stuck, the first name was shortened, and the world–renowned artist was forming.
The basement with seventeen roommates did not last long; Andy was rather fast at finding steady employment. In 1951, two years out of school,
Andy Warhol bought a nice apartment for himself. Shortly thereafter his mother and her three cats showed up one evening. Julia Warhola was to live

I selected Andy Warhol because I have long admired his crazy, quirky, unconventional style of producing works of art from normal, everyday subjects
ranging from inanimate, normally unnoticed objects to pop culture celebrity icons. I first heard of him in 1986 when his show Andy Warhol's Fifteen
Minutes aired on MTV. The show featured Andy interviewing what he thought was the next up
–and–coming musical sensations about to get their
"fifteen minutes of fame."
Two years later on a poster in the mall at a Spencer's store I saw Warhol's famous Campbell's Soup Can work of art. At first glance I thought the poster
was ridiculous because it featured such a simplistic, moronic image. Then, my artistic eye and appreciation for the eccentric...show more content...
His duplicating the same image over and over again on the same piece signifies to me the redundancy corporate America uses to persuade us to crave
certain products or celebrities.
Andy Warhol's Marilyn is among my favorite pieces. This piece forever embalms her beautiful smile and glamorous look. The repetition, (should you
explain a bit about the repetition in the work?) which is also shown in Elvis Presley, Jackie's, Liz, etc., gives me a startling look into the fame and
usually misfortune of some of the world's largest icons.
Warhol's Thirty–two Soup Cans is another good example. The piece depicts sameness (though with different labels): same brand, same size, and same
paint surface. It mimics the condition of mass advertising, out of which his sensibility had grown.
Although the movies that Warhol made are a bit obscure to say the least, I admire his boldness in making movies that are about nothing. He started
producing and directing when he bought his first 16 mm movie camera in 1963. His first film entitled Sleep featured a man asleep in bed for eight
hours. His purpose was said to "control the viewer's attention and make them look at something they normally wouldn't notice." Other films such as
Chelsea Girls and Empire became underground classics. Unfortunately I haven't seen and cannot find any of these films. Ironically, my own style of
video recording and being an aspiring director have

Write An Essay About Andy Warhol

  • 1. Write An Essay About Andy Warhol Andy Warhol was a famous artist known for creating rather odd popular culture art that really posed the question at the time about what was the actual definition of "fine art." He was born in the 1920s, and his career spanned the decades of the 1960s through the 1980s. Warhol started his career in New York as a commercial illustrator and it seems was quite content with his career in the communications/marketing industry. He eventually did try to become an artist and reportedly had trouble breaking into the fine art scene, but he was able to break in with likely the biggest statement of all and one that was brand new to the art scene of his time. His message was that all of his art both written and drawn were his way to "prove that all...show more content... His mass production reportedly was a metaphor for the mass commercialism of that time, and his move from art creation to marketing seemed to also mimic the mass production and new technology explosion that was occurring during his time. Warhol was a peculiar individual who was quite reserved and quiet due this rather secluded childhood years, and so it was not easy for the public to delve into his mindset with regard to what his art represented and what he was trying to accomplish in his many artistic endeavors – according to Empty Easel.com, "...if you could somehow ask him, I think Andy Warhol would probably say that all of it, EVERYTHING he did, was art." • 2. Andy Warhol Essay Andy Warhol Warhol was successful in bringing a new form of art to the forefront of an ever changing artworld in the 1960`s. I am interested in the field of commercial and graphic art and it's connection to advertising. That's why I have chosen Warhol as my subject for this essay. I'm going to focus on the techniques and images he used on his paintings. Andy Warhol is one of the world's most renown artists. He was a painter, a photographer, a filmmaker, a publisher of Interview magazine and he loved a good party. Andy reflected many aspects of American culture as no one had done before him. He was as famous for his weird appearance; silver wigs, crazy glasses as for his striking short answers to questions. Warhol was born in...show more content... This article proved his reliability and skills, and it helped him get other such jobs, for example illustrating adds for Harper's Bazaar and vogue. He became one of the most wanted illustrators of women's accessories in New York and was awarded the Art Directors' Club Medal for his designs of newspaper advertisements. Much of his future material can be placed in the category of such common, everyday objects, that were focused on in these early times. Nearly all of Warhol's works relate in one way or another to the commercially mass–produced machine product. Although Warhol did receive recognition for much of his commercial illustrations during those times, he was constantly pursuing another career, as a serious artist. Unfortunately, Warhol was not so successful at first in obtaining this goal. His delicate ink drawings of shoes and cupids, among various others, had no place in a decade dominated by such heroic artists as William de Kooning and Jackson Pollock. But then he began working on a process called silk–screening. A large photographic image is transferred to a silk screen, placed on a canvas and inked from the back. It was this technique that enabled him to produce a series of mass media images beginning in 1962. This series is generally regarded as a comment on the banality and harshness of American culture while celebrating its most recognisable icons. This

  • 4. Andy Warhol Influence Andy Warhol is considered to be one of the most impactful artists to work in the later half of the 20th century. His work challenged the institution of art in so many ways, from the integration of popular culture iconography to his method of production in his "Factory"; Warhol confronted what made art "art", and redefined it throughout the span of his career. Personally, Warhol was obsessed with celebrity and mass reproduction of commodities of any kind. This infatuation greatly influenced the way he worked, by using screen–print, and appropriating images from pop–culture of the 60's, he was able to gain the infamy he so adored. The infamous persona of "Andy Warhol" was surrounded by a posse of famous friends and acquaintances...show more content... There's nothing behind it." (Reeve, pg. 661). Expanding further on the notion that his work was obvious and lacked substance. Unlike Warhol, Marcel Duchamp, who influenced movements like Dada, Pop, and Conceptualism poked fun and questioned the institution by challenging them with thought provoking works like "Fountain" (1917) and Etant donnes (1946–66). These works, unlike Warhol's, had meaning and confronted topics like voyeurism, irony, humor, and capitalism (The Art Story). Warhol may be compared to Duchamp,
  • 5. however, their efforts seem very different, even at face value. The work that took place at the factory was experimental in nature, but included a slew of studio assistants that aided Warhol in the process of removing the artist from the art and questioned the value of the "artist's hand" within the work (Guggenheim Museum). This concept brought critics and fans alike, but either way, Warhol was still talked about, obsessed over, and scrutinized. All things the modern celebrity faces. • 6. How Did Andy Warhol Influence Art Andy Warhol was loved by everyone due to view and of course his art. Andy Warhol rose to become famous in several ways and soon became the most controversial artist of the 21st century. His views, as well as his art, was associated with the Pop Art Movement in the 1960s. The famous art made by Andy didn't just changed our view on art, it change art entirely. People were drawn toAndy Warhol for a multiple of reasons. One reason was his complex view on art. Andy's art was involved a sense of color that was unprecedented at the time, yet it looked printed. While most artist didn't understand his views, it caught the attention of the people of the U.S. and soon the people of the world. An example of this is when he let a helium filled balloon Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Andy Warhol Essay The attitude of Warhol only confused society more. Instead of hiding his association with commercial art as other artists did, drawing and dividing the line between it and real art, he erased the line. "The Pop artists did images that anybody walking down Broadway could recognize in a split second."(Warhol) Pop artist figures competed in that art market where images and auras, no just objects, are offered for consumption. Warhol has never objected to this state of affairs, which he did so much to reveal – and indeed, to push to new extremes of sophistication. Warhol introduced society to a new kind of art that is now being recognized as real art, he pushed to boundaries and so called standards to the traditional ways. Warhol's first major...show more content... He produced the Campbell's Soup Can series in 1962 and the more famous prints of Marilyn Monroe in 1964. To expand Andy's finances, Fred Hughes encouraged him to concentrate on his paintings. Andy's Swiss dealer, Bruno Bischofberger, thought Andy should paint a series on a world leader for an exhibit at his gallery. He suggested Albert Einstein. Andy thought that Chairman Mao, the dictator of China, would be a better choice. "I've been reading so much about China...the only picture they ever have is of Mao Zedong. It's great. It looks like a silkscreen."(Warhol, p.117 price of pop) Bruno insisted that on one, especially Americans, would but them, since Mao was a widely hated communist. As usual Andy stuck to his instincts and set out to silkscreen a set of prints, line drawings, and paintings of the Chinese leader. Mao symbolized power over the lives of billions of people. Although, if Andy had lived in communist China during the Cultural Revelation, he most likely would have been imprisoned. Mao suppressed creativity, especially in the arts. But Andy felt sure that capitalist American collectors would find the images of Chairman Mao, both alien and familiar at the same time, irresistible. Based on the official photograph of Mao, the portraits were done in a freer brushstroke than previous paintings, with a looser background of color over which the image was printed. By adding lines around the face for emphasis, Warhol tried to make Mao as Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Andy Warhol Essay Hailed as the founding father of the Pop Art movement in the late 1950's and early 1960's, Andy Warhol, through his endeavors, brought forward society's obsession with mass culture and allowed it to become the subject of his art. He produced works that defied and challenged the popular notion of what art should be by disputing the "traditional conventions pertaining to the uniqueness, authenticity, and authorship" of art (Faerna 28). However, it is an injustice to say that Warhol's goals primarily included the desire to create such a ground–breaking and salient style of American art or to entertain the public by making his own artistic contributions. Rather, Andy Warhol's interests were more entwined in his own self–interest and greed. ...show more content... Ultimately, these early "rituals" were precursors to the prolific and materialistic lifestyle Warhol would later choose to live. Later on in Andy Warhol's artistic career, his actions and vocalizations would further verify his enthusiasm towards securing unfathomable amounts of materialistic possessions and popularity. In one of his philosophy books entitled: The Philosophy of Andy Warhol, he informed his readers that "buying is much more American than thinking and [that he was] as American as they come" (Bourdon 352). This attitude contributed to the large sums of money that went into securing the priceless decoration pieces that he used to outfit "The Factory," his multi–floored studio. The Factory was bejeweled with a variety of ornate and precious items such as "nineteenth–century European bronze figures, dated English and American paintings, mahogany, rosewood, and bird's eye maple furniture, and replicas of Egyptian artifacts" (Artelino.com). Regardless, no matter how much revenue Warhol earned, his childhood years had left him with a fear of being poor and thus he always chose to walk around with several hundred bills to remind himself of his own wealth. He even went so far as to sleep on a straw mattress cushioned by wads of bills; his logic being: "you only feel as rich as the money you have in your pocket or Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Essay about Andy Warhol Andy Warhol Never before have I encountered more intriguing works of art than those done by Andy Warhol. I have been curious about his life ever since I saw his work in Milwaukee. I saw his famous work of the Campbell's Soup Can. By viewing this, one can tell he is not your average artist. I'm sure his life is full of interesting events that shaped him into who he was. As an artist myself, I would like to get to know the background of his life. I may then be able to appreciate his styles and understand why and how his works were created. His life is as interesting as his artistic masterpieces. Andrew Warhola (his original name) was born one of three sons of Czech immigrants, somewhere in Pennsylvania on either August 6, 1928 or on...show more content... The rest of his short life was spent visiting with celebrities and keeping up with the world's times. He tried to understand how the rest of the world saw things, but just never got there. Sadly, Warhol died of a heart failure on March 9, 1987, still wearing his famous blond hair wig. Andy's diaries are not actual written records of his day to day accounts, but they are audio recordings of his phone conversations to Pat Hackett every Monday through Friday (from Wednesday, November 24, 1976 to Tuesday, February 17, 1987, just weeks before his death). Warhol originally intended these daily records to be documentation of his minor "business" expenses. He was just audited and felt the need to be extra careful. "In a word it was a diary. But whatever its broader objective, its narrow one, to satisfy tax auditors, was always on my mind" (Warhol xvi). Later on, he felt the diaries were a great way to explain his everyday occurrences for more than a decade of his life. This view of his life from his eyes is probably the most balanced view ever given. He may have changed since the 60's, but it is still the truest representation of Andy, himself. He never expressed the key happenings of his life; it's as if we, the readers, already knew them. He just usually mentions the quick everyday type things such as a cab ride to uptown New York. The first major influence on Andy Warhol's life was the stepping stone of his artistic career, his enrollment in and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Essay On Andy Warhol Andy Warhol uses a unique and whimsical style when he creates one of his iconic pieces. Between the blotted lines and rubber stamps he uses to create his work, he also uses aggressive and bold gestures of paint that set his work apart from other artists of his time. He casts a cool and ironic light on the extensiveness of commercial culture and contemporary celebrity worship. Early in his career, he began to utilize the silkscreen process to transfer photographic images to canvas; images of mass–produced consumer products and Hollywood film stars are among his most recognizable subjects. The compilation of paintings was conceived after President Nixon's historic trip to China in 1972. "This series announced Warhol's return to painting with...show more content... The one that was shown in the UMMA in Ann Arbor was a smaller canvas, which was very different than that seen elsewhere. Some of Warhol's reproductions were as high has 14 feet tall. Between the use of synthetic polymer paint and silkscreen ink on the canvas it creates a visual eye catching work of art. Warhol used ferocious paint strokes over the Great Helmsman's face, and used almost a full pastel color scheme throughout. With a strong pastel blue background, and a pastel turquoise shirt painted over the Mao print, you can see the variation in strokes and thought put into the whole painting. Both the background and the shirt are opaque however the layers that covers the face that was made with tints of red and some orange were more translucent and had a harsher stroke to them rather than an even smooth layering that was a distinct dimension. Since there are elements of layering between the opaque, translucent and silkscreen top layer the viewer is able to get some depth out of it when viewing the work from a distance. This depth and levels of transparency create such flow and movement through the piece and cause your eye to flow freely throughout it, just mesmerized by its execution. There is an incorporated texture with the print of Mao, which is black, and that adds another element to make the piece bolder. This element of brings your eye directly to the piece rather than wandering the room to glimpse at the other great works found at Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 12. Introduction: To discuss plagiarism, one must first define this term which all college students so deeply fear. In short, it is the taking of another person's words, thoughts, or ideas and presenting them as one's own by not crediting the original author. Laws against plagiarism are instituted to protect the expressive and intellectual creativity of original artists. But in the visual arts, there is a fine line between plagiarism and allusion, between stealing someone's work and incorporating it. In this paper, I will look at three artists; Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and Louise Nevelson, to evaluate whether or not some of their famous works of art are plagiarized. Andy Warhol: When speaking of American pop artist Andy Warhol and the topic of plagiarism, one first comes upon his "Campbell's Soup Can" (1961) series wherein he reproduced several canvases of the classic Campbell's soup can label. However, the recreation of this icon label is considered as an appropriation of a familiar item rather than plagiarism because, "the public was unlikely to see the painting as sponsored by the soup company or representing a competing product." While this work and some others were contested in his lifetime, I believe Warhol to be innocent of plagiarism. Rather, as a fine artist, he was...show more content... After taking cues from society in the mid–twentieth century, as well as conversing with Muriel Latow, Warhol did what many artists strived to do but failed. Andy also extracted many of his ideas from other artists and built on them. He put a culture on canvas and revolutionized pop art for a life time. The nineteen sixties, seventies, and eighties were periods of self righteousness and discovery. With many new styles and beliefs arising during those eras, Warhol's imagination would begin to produce ideas that were unheard of but revolutionary at the same time. American values were altered and so ...show more content... The death of very popular movie star Marilyn Monroe sparked Warhol's interest to expose the realities of the pop culture. Monroe was a sex icon, fashion icon, as well as a cultural icon for the nineteen fifties and sixties. "The potent memory of the pathos and mystery of Marilyn's death with the long–lived speculation surrounding it elevated her to the greatest modern star status. Warhol's paintings participated in the public consolidation" (Copplestone 25). "Andy exaggerated the features of Marilyn Monroe that had made her beautiful" (Bolton 19). Also, the popularity of celebrities such as Jackie Kennedy and Elvis Presley soon began to sweep the nation (Wrbican). Warhol saw these people as icons for the sixties and also saw them as an inspiration to what would become his new art works. Despite how happy, pretty, or ideal the celebrities seemed on television, they were disasters in reality and Warhol executed his exposure of these secrets through pop art. After World War two had ended and the United States had entered the Vietnam War, the theme of mortality became less shocking to the population than in the years prior. With the acceptance of such things, Warhol decided to create a series of brutal artwork that would exemplify the understanding of life and death. "His series of death and disaster included paintings of electric chairs, suicides, and car crashes" (Wrbican). Warhol wanted Get more content on HelpWriting.net

What's so upsetting about that is that you really miss out on the experience. When I think about interpretation of art I think of Andy Warhol. Andy Warhol's use of iconography changed not only the art world but the people who came into contact with his art. Once you understand his life and art, you will understand his art as a symbolic representation. Andy Warhol (Andrew Warhola) was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on August 6, 1928. I was looking at a bunch of Warhol's paintings and I was confused. I was just staring at them and I'm thinking "why don't you look like a Warhol?' Then I realize that these paintings are from when he was younger. This was before he defined his aesthetic. I believe this was his discovering phase then he goes into his silk screening phase. Andy Warhol used current icons from the world for his work. One of the famous icons was the Campbell's soup can. In 1962 Warhol displayed his Campbell's soup piece, one canvas for each 32 types of Campbell's soup. In 1960, Warhol began producing his first canvases, which he based on comic strip subjects. In 1961, he started using the method of silk screening. Silk screening starts with a stencil drawing then transferred with glue onto silk. Warhol's first silkscreen was Campbell's Soup cans. Campbell's Soup was an icon in the 1960s that gave you a sense of comfort. In spite of that, Warhol's Soup Can paintings were to provoke concern about value. At first glance it may seem like a joke but it's actually a sophisticated and thought–provoking artistic statement. In the 1960s Andy Warhol made a sculpture that was extension of what Warhol had done with the Campbell's Soup Cans, Brillo Boxes. • 21. Andy Warhol Essay I selected Andy Warhol because I have long admired his crazy, quirky, unconventional style of producing works of art from normal, everyday subjects ranging from inanimate, normally unnoticed objects to pop culture celebrity icons. I first heard of him in 1986 when his show Andy Warhol's Fifteen Minutes aired on MTV. The show featured Andy interviewing what he thought was the next up –and–coming musical sensations about to get their "fifteen minutes of fame." Two years later on a poster in the mall at a Spencer's store I saw Warhol's famous Campbell's Soup Can work of art. At first glance I thought the poster was ridiculous because it featured such a simplistic, moronic image. Then, my artistic eye and appreciation for the eccentric...show more content... His duplicating the same image over and over again on the same piece signifies to me the redundancy corporate America uses to persuade us to crave certain products or celebrities. Andy Warhol's Marilyn is among my favorite pieces. This piece forever embalms her beautiful smile and glamorous look. The repetition, (should you explain a bit about the repetition in the work?) which is also shown in Elvis Presley, Jackie's, Liz, etc., gives me a startling look into the fame and usually misfortune of some of the world's largest icons. Warhol's Thirty–two Soup Cans is another good example. The piece depicts sameness (though with different labels): same brand, same size, and same paint surface. It mimics the condition of mass advertising, out of which his sensibility had grown. Although the movies that Warhol made are a bit obscure to say the least, I admire his boldness in making movies that are about nothing. He started producing and directing when he bought his first 16 mm movie camera in 1963. His first film entitled Sleep featured a man asleep in bed for eight hours. His purpose was said to "control the viewer's attention and make them look at something they normally wouldn't notice." Other films such as Chelsea Girls and Empire became underground classics. Unfortunately I haven't seen and cannot find any of these films. Ironically, my own style of video recording and being an aspiring director have Get more content on HelpWriting.net
