Yaak is addressing an often overlooked, but central component of safety in mobility — Us. It’s a journey that started when the co-founders and early employees met at Daimler. It baffled us on a closer look, in the age of heavy ADAS and AV investment, that driver coaching, the funnel of all drivers in Europe, has not seen a technological change in decades. We spent a better part of last 18 months with our customers in DE and DK to define and refine SafetyOS.
SafetyOS generated safety scores for human driving.
Martin, Harsimrat and I met each other at Daimler Autonomous. We are all: “I looks amazing”.
Unhappy with the way the industry was developing ADAS and autonomous driving;
Scenario testing driven -> world more complex and will take time to solve (Aurora announcement 30 years).

In March we shipped alpha iteration of our HW kit, upfitted on a corolla, to our testing partner in Freiburg it also included a POC for our in-vehicle driver training with a VR headset at the same time. In the summer we focussed on validating our ideas for SafetyOS models in simulation, which we submitted to IBB as part of the requirements for a research grant, approved earlier this year. Based on the POC we attracted 25 pre-orders from customers in DK and DE. For our september milestone, we revised of the HW kit for a new vehicle type, e-niro, consolidated cloud services and introduced the Yaak app to our beta testers in Hamburg and DK. The 3 beta vehicles, Kia e-niro, shipped in September and advances in in-vehicle simulation product, attracted a 1M+ value pre-order from the biggest driving school in Northern Germany.

When SafetyOS is mature it has the potential to power next generation auto insurance products, based on sensor data.
When SafetyOS is consistently better at detecting, scoring and correct unsafe driving behaviour, than the best instructors, Yaak will enable AV developers around the world to launch Autonomous products.

We source the necessary data to build SafetyOS at the bottleneck of customer our funnel — the driving schools. Coupled with sensor data, here shown in the video, expert instructor annotations from the Yaak app during the lessons and type of driving curriculums executed, protect left and right turns, we source a goldmine of data previously untapped in both driver training and insurance sector. This data can only be sourced with driving schools just like the data for machine translation needs expert annotations.
