1. Questionnaire Summary
During the research stage of creating my magazineI took it upon myself to create a questionnaire to
research what people wanted to see as my target audience for my ‘Indie’ magazine. I distributed my
questionnaire to a group of 30 people and I reached my final decisions for my magazine.
I received numerous responses and I have concluded what I would like to feature in my indie
magazine from counting and evaluating the feedback from my target audience. I have decided that I
will use bright colours for a house style in my magazine such as red and yellow. My target audience
responded well to the idea of having bright colours as 29/30 people said they would like the bright
colours as it is more intense in contrast to pinks & purples that would be used in a calmer magazine
such as a pop magazine. Also people overall thought that there should be a lot of pictures as it would
appeal more to a younger audience due to there being less text seeing as Indie music is popular
amongst the youths of today.
I also decided that the language for the magazine should be informal as 27/30 thought this would be
appropriate due to the target audience of younger people eg. 15-25.
I then decided on what my magazine would include in the contents due to the response and
thoughts generated by my target audience that were given the questionnaire.
I chose to include as follows:
2. Reviews of CDs
Top 10 Download Charts
Selected artist choosing a playlist
Interviews with other bands
Upcoming Tours
Music News
Top Albums
I then decided that I would change my front cover design to appeal more to my target audience due
to their responses. 29/30 people said that they’d prefer having a logo in the corner instead of a mast
head across the top of the page such as Q magazine. They also responded saying that they would
want the layout of the magazine to be quite busy and quirky such as Q and Kerrang! Magazines
which I shall interpret into my designs.
