2. Double Page Spread
The article title is
in bold font which
stands
out, immediately
drawing the
readers eye to the
article. As its set
over a vibrant
blue background
it appears to
have a “young”
feel to the article
itself, as intended.
Main Image takes up
more than one page
which draws attention
to the page. The image
also gives the reader an
insight to what the
article is actually about.
Logo of the magazine in corner of the article title in
order to remind the reader of what they are
reading, this also works as a ‘self promo’. It works as a
promotion of the band also as they’re saying that they
love the band, making others want to listen to them
by recommendation of the magazine.
This box is large and bright to draw the reader to look at it.
It features short snappy bullet points to get information
across which proves to be effective as it delivers the
information to the reader simply without them getting
bored by reading long paragraphs of text.
The picture
contains bright
element of colour
which is rather
eye catching in
contrast to the
white background
featured as a
house style for
the article.
The subheading
is used to
supply a small
bit of
information as
to what the
article is about.
These are
usually in bold
font to be eye
catching to the
reader and
draw them in.

There is a clear house style in this article which is
blue, white & black. The blue is quite bright, energetic
and vibrant which shows the audience that the band is
young. Bands such as coldplay & the who wouldn’t use
such a bright example of blue as they are deemed “old
school” therefore not young and energetic.

3. Contents Page
The house style of
this magazines
contents page is
red, white & black.
These colours
contrast with each
other as each one
stands out over the
other, creating a
vibrant and
attractive layout.
Also NME is
associated with Rock
music and red is
commonly
associated with rock
bands, for example
Rolling Stones have
red in their logo. The
use of red in this
magazine
emphasises the
genre of music the
magazine is using.
The photograph corresponds with
the house style of the magazine as
the writing on it is red on a white
cinema board. This emphasises
the house style of the contents.
The picture is of a concert hall
where there will be an upcoming
performance which ties in with
the magazines genre of music.
The page is in 3 different columns
which breaks it down to be easy to
read. Its split into very clear
sections. Firstly the “band index” is
for people to specifically search for
articles about the band they’re
looking for. In the second column
there is the main image which is the
centre piece for the entirety of the
contents page, it is located in the
middle column as it’s the main
article of the featured issue. The
third column is where all of the
regular features are located which
are laid out all on one column for
the reader to find instead of having
to look around the page to find
them all, this is a much simpler
option and creates easy reading for
the reader.

The subheadings are in black
and white which stand out
quite simply to the
audience, making it easier for
them to find what article
they are looking for
Subheadings
The magazine has chosen to use the
magazines logo for the title in order
to remind readers of what they’re
reading & to emphasise the house
styles use of red. The title of the
contents page features the
magazine title in red and the rest of
the words in white which makes the
actual magazine seem edgier in
comparison to normality.

4. Front CoverThe house style of the magazine is
grey, white & black. The use of
these colours reflect the Beatles
who are a sophisticated and classic
band . The colours are slick and
formal which emphasises the
Beatles being a band of the
past, being high up in the world of
music. The black and white is also
used to represent that the Beatles
are quite old as a lot of their
concerts were in black and white.
House Style
The font is shown as a signature in
some places which shows a classic
& sophisticated feel to the
magazine, to reflect The Beatles.
The use of a font being a signature
also shows that they are big stars as
signatures are often associated with
autographs.
Font
The main image slightly overlaps
the mast head which shows that
the Beatles have some higher
presence than what the magazine
itself has. The Beatles are seen a
prestigious classic band of the 60’s
era and are famous worldwide yet
they are only ‘slightly’ overlapping
the hast head which shows that
some people of the younger
generation may not know who
they are. Its only slightly over the
mast head so the picture couldn’t
completely cover the hast head as
a small faction of the younger
population wouldn’t have a clue as
to these artists are. Also the
pictures are in colour which would
appeal more to a younger
audience in contrast to the
sophisticated grey, white and black
colour scheme.
Main Image
The plugs are featured on the front on
the left hand side are specifically in a
large font so that if readers aren’t a fan
of The Beatles then there are some
other well known bands that are
included. This helps sell the magazine as
the bands and artists are quite well
known in the rock/indie world and are
commonly listened to therefore if
they’re on the front then it becomes
more of an appeal and reason to
purchase it. The plug on the right hand
side features an element of mystery to
intrigue the reader. By saying “Macca
speaks!” it automatically makes the
reader ask questions as to who ‘Macca’
is and what they are talking about.
Plugs
The cover line is in bold font and in the
centre of the page. Its located there as it
draws the eye to it almost
instantaneously due to it being white and
against the colours black and grey. It is
the main article of the magazine issue
therefore it draws a lot of attention to it.

5. The house styles for these two magazines are drastically different. The
pink and purple vibrant colours are used for the pop magazine as its
seen as a magazine for a younger audience and the energetic bright
colours will appeal to them more. However in the Classical magazine the
colours are red, black and white which celebrates a much more
sophisticated feel to the issue as it is aimed at a much more mature
audience.
House Style
The cover line on the classic magazine is in gold and read ‘McCartney’ after Paul McCartney.
It is in gold and large font to highlight that he is a prestigious artist as gold is associated with
high status. However on the pop magazine there isn’t a cover line which shows that its
made for a younger audience as they wouldn’t want to read an excessive amount and they
know that the article is about Cher Lloyd as she is on the cover without a cover line.
Cover Line
On the classical magazine there is a lot of writing compared to the pop one as
the classical appeals to mature audiences which will more than likely be avid
readers and the pop is aimed at teenagers who wont want to read as much.
The language is formal in the classical magazine compared to the informal
slang used in the pop magazine, yet again helping appeal to the audiences.
Text
The use of imagery on the two magazines is very different.
The pop magazine has many images which have vibrant
colours to catch the readers eye whereas in the classical
magazine there is only a few pictures which aren’t as bright
an vibrant as they suggest a mature audience.
