All staff who work in Educational Services have network accounts that exist on the Corporate network. All pupil network accounts exist on a separate Education network.
Staff have access to a personal Home drive (H:\), a school Staff Shared drive (S:\) and a school Pupil Shared drive (P:\) – access to these devices can only be achieved when logged on to a PC or laptop that is connected to the school network or a laptop that has been configured for home access.
In South Ayrshire we use Skype for Business for making telephone calls, instant messaging and video conferencing with colleagues

Glow – all staff and pupils in South Ayrshire have a Glow account. Your Glow account is created when you have a live work record in a school. Your Glow username should be the same as your network username although the two are not linked. As a Glow user you will also be allocated a Glow email address – this is not your main email account and it is advisable to put a forward on your Glow mail to your South Ayrshire mail account. When using any of the Office 265 online tools in Glow you may be asked to provide your Microsoft account, this is your Glow email address which is your Glow username followed by @glow.sch.uk e.g. sa99lrobertson@glow.sch.uk
Free Microsoft Office install – as a Glow user you are entitled to install the latest Micrososft Office package, Skype for Business and the Office 365 online tools on your personal devices. Social media provides a range of opportunities to communicate and collaborate and has become a significant part of life for most people.
Personal use - make sure you regularly check your privacy settings. Consider the implications of the choices you make when sharing online, if in doubt keep it to friends only.
Common sense approach – consider your position, only put on what you wouldn’t mind your employer reading, think about who you friend/follow, state that all views/opinions are your own
Professional development
an excellent tool to support your professional development
ability to share and get answers/ideas out with your normal channels of communication
follow/friend key persons/organisations relevant to your subject or areas of interest
Support learning and teaching
Use with CAUTION!!!
Data protection – make sure you are aware of your responsibilities when you are sharing information about pupils/staff
Internet safety and responsible use – this needs to be addressed with pupils
Maintain professional relationships at all times
Legal age for social media use – should your pupils be using this type of technology and if not do not use to support learning and teaching
Parental/pupil consent
National and local policies
Council Social Media policy can be found at https://bit.ly/3g5lOpE
GTCS Professional guidance on the use of electronic communication and social media

We need to provide learners with relevant learning experiences to prepare them for life after school. As part of this we need to consider the learning environment and this includes providing access to mobile devices.
Current picture in South Ayrshire
Good wifi coverage across all schools
Majority of schools are using iPads (other mobile devices can be purchased and connected to the schools’ wifi but this needs to be cleared with IT first)
All iPads are managed by a mobile device management (MDM) solution, in South Ayrshire we use Mobile Guardian. This allows the devices to have safe and secure access to the internet with all users required to log on to the device. An app catalogue has been established and only approved apps (free and paid) that are on the catalogue can be installed on the devices.
Guidance
Guidance and support can be found at https://ww20.south-ayrshire.gov.uk/clw/education/SitePages/Mobile Devices.aspx
Including the current Approved and Non-approved app catalogues – please regularly check as they are continually reviewed and updated
Next Steps
Chromebooks
Schools will be able to purchase Chromebooks and like the iPads these will connect to the schools wifi and be managed by Mobile Guardian
BYOD
Plans to carry out a proof of concept project this session – hopefully prior to the end of Term 2. Likely to involve one school and just one or two year groups. If it is a success we will roll out further across the school estate.
We have a responsibility to provide learners with the opportunities to develop their skills for learning, life and work. These skills include digital innovation and digital literacy.
There are a number of ways in which we support staff:
