1. Christmas/Winter

2. Some activities will require a map of the world:
Create a large map of the world on the floor using
tape or cutouts of continents. Children should be
able to drive Spheros from one continent to the
other.
For other activities younger children might find it
easier to have an arena style area so their Sphero
doesn’t get lost - you could use benches or blocks to
create a space to contain the Spheros.

3. Early Level Activity
Santa wants to bring presents
to kids all around the world.
Can you drive to all the
different continents and stop
at each one? Pretend you are
Santa giving presents to your
friends and say “Merry
Christmas, Ho Ho Ho”.
The North Pole is getting very
cold this time of year. Can
you get to the polar bears and
see if they have nice thick fur
and plenty of food to help
them to stay warm?

4. In Australia, it is summer time
and people celebrate
Christmas on the beach. Can
you go there and pretend you
are swimming and building
sandcastles?
Penguins live in Antarctica
where it is snowing. Can you
find where that is? What do
penguins do for fun? Sing the
“I’m a Little Snowman” song.

5. Can you pretend that your
Sphero is skating around the
room? Be careful not to bump
into anything or your Sphero
might get hurt!
(Mark out 9 lines on the floor)
Can you drive your Sphero from
one line to the other? Stop at
each line and shout out the
name of one of Santa’s
reindeer. Sing “Rudolph the Red
Nosed Reindeer” song.

6. Create a fun winter character using a paper cup and put it on top
of your Sphero. Can all the Spheros meet up together and show
off their characters? You can pretend it is a winter festival. When
your Sphero meets another Sphero talk about your character, what
you like about each other’s and why you chose your design. Then
you could choose your favourite character!

7. Santa is currently in North
America but forgot to deliver a
present in Australia. Can you
find the quickest way to get
there? What continents does
he go past?
Kjeld Nuis is the world’s
fastest speed skater. How fast
can your Sphero travel 10m?
Try different surfaces and race
your friends!

8. Can you find the coldest
places in the world? Travel
there and code your Sphero to
say the name of the place
and the weather forecast for
the day.
Ice skating was the first sport
included in the Winter
Olympics in 1908. Code your
Sphero to spin and draw
shapes to a piece of music.

9. Create different size ramps
using recyclable materials. See
how far you can make your
Sphero travel like ski jumping.
Create winter Sphero
characters using paper cups
and hold a Winter Wonderland
Dance. Code your sphero to
dance and change colour!

10. Create dogs or sleighs with
your spheros and take part in
a race. Code your Sphero to
make noises and cheer at the
finish line.
Drive your Sphero around the
room and code it to say the
lyrics to a Winter/Christmas
song. You can sing along with
it!

11. Can you find the place that is
furthest from the North Pole?
Where is it? What do you
think the weather is like there
and why?
Can you find which continent
we live on? Make up a short
song or rap about the weather
at this time of year and what
we do for fun!

12. Create a story about the
Grinch. Code your Sphero to
tell the story using sound
effects and lights.
In 1941 there was a truce
during WW1 for Christmas.
Can you set up football teams
with Spheros and see who can
win?

13. Can you research places where
Christmas is not an official
holiday and travel to those
places with your Sphero? Why
do you think it is not a
holiday there?
Find out where Christmas
Island is. It is well known for
its red crab migration. Code
your Sphero to travel there
and say facts about what the
island is famous for.

14. Code your Sphero to travel to
all the continents in the world
to deliver presents. You need
to pay attention to time zones
to deliver the presents in the
correct order.
Create a snowflake design on
the floor using tape or chalk.
Code your sphero to travel
along each part of the
snowflake.

15. Snow rollers and sundog
rainbows can form at Winter
time. Code your Sphero to roll
and spin and light up with the
colours of the rainbow in
order.
Create a slalom ski track with
lollipop sticks and Blue Tack.
Race through the track
without knocking down the
sticks. Research the world
records for this sport.

16. Make a list of the top 5
poorest countries in the world.
Code your Sphero to travel to
them in order and deliver
presents to the children there.
Create a bobsleigh track. Try
drive 2/3/4 Spheros down the
track, staying right beside
each other, as fast as
possible. Create cool sound
effects too!
