ii. Title: School Learning Action Cell on the usINSET on Positive
Discipline in Everyday Teaching (PDET)
iii. Description: Need-Based Activity
iv. Date: October 13-14, 2023
v. Duration: 1&1/2 days
vi. Location: Ilawis Elementary School, Kindergarten Classroom
I. Rationale:
Positive discipline, an approach to teaching that helps children
succeed, gives them the information they need to learn and supports their
development. It respects children’s rights to healthy development, protection
from violence and active participation in their learning.
In many cultures and languages, the word “discipline” has come to be equated
with control and punishment - particularly physical punishment.
But this is not the true meaning of “discipline”.
Positive discipline is about long- term solutions that develop students’ own self-
discipline and their life-long learning. It is about clear and consistent
communication and consistent reinforcement of your expectations, rules and
limits. Positive discipline is about teaching non-violence, empathy, self-respect,
human rights and respect for others.
