This is a presentation prepared for college assignment which includes the positive and negative impacts of technology on environment. I tried to cover most important points.
2. What is environment ?
Environment is the total sum of all the surrounding of the
living organisms, including natural forces and other living
things.
3. What is technology ?
The application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes,
especially in industry.
Machinery and devices developed from scientific knowledge.
4. Analyzing the impact
It has become very difficult to analyze the impact created on
our lives through certain advanced introduced technologies.
People, environment and the society has also impacted
through the increase in use of technologies. The methods of
using technology determine whether it will create positive or
negative effects.
5. Why people consider the use of
technology harmful?
Technology is not harmful to the individual or to the society,
it is the people itself who are creating misuse of the
technology and named it harmful for their own benefits.
7. Preservation of forests
The introduction of computer systems into both the home
and work environments has put an end to the need to have
reams of paper files; in the long-run these simple changes will
have a considerable impact on the environment and help to
preserve forests.
8. Recycling Technologies
Recycling technology will also help to eliminate waste. While
technology is blamed for much of the pollution that
contributes to global warming, it may also provide the
solution to the problem.
9. New methods of generating electricity
Research into new methods of generating power and electricity
is abundant; experts hope to find cleaner, renewable sources of
energy to replace the finite supply of fossil fuels and reduce
global warming and climate change.
10. Electric cars
No carbon emissions.
They do not contribute to air pollution, meaning they are cleaner
and less harmful to human health, animals, plants, and water.
11. The best is yet to come…
Everyday new technologies are being introduced which tends
to boost food production, improve infrastructure, improve
healthcare and provide sanitation facilities could dramatically
change the quality of life in the developing world.
14. Habitat Loss
Habitat loss or alteration through land clearance (e.g. as a
consequence of raw material demand or development of site).
15. Contamination
The chemical contamination of the environment through the
release of wastes that have a direct toxic effect on flora and
fauna (e.g. pesticides).
This alters the normal functionality of ecosystem.
16. Pollution
Emission of large quantity of gases such as CO2 in the air by
large industries causes air pollution which in turn has
degraded environment immensely.
Disposal of waste into the rivers and water systems.
Noise pollution from weapons testing and usage, industries in
their routine production processes.
17. Global Warming
Enhanced global warming (i.e. greenhouse gases such as
carbon dioxide, and nitrous oxides).
There is more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere today than at
any point in the last 800,000 years.
18. Conclusion
In conclusion, higher percentage of environmental problems is a
direct result of technology mismanagement by innovators and
users. A small portion of environmental issues relate to economic,
social and natural changes results from human activities.
Environmental pollution, ecological systems disturbances, depletion
of natural resources and climatic changes resulting from global
warming are technologically influenced. Technology is significant in
development and increased productivity to satisfy human need, but
uncontrolled technology impacts environment negatively.
