2. What is Technology?
Technology develops and explains the human-
made world; It involves development, processing
and management.
3. “Modern technology owes ecology an apology”
Which roughly translates to,
“Technology has done more harm than good to
the environment”
4. Effects of technology in environment:
1. Excess Power consumption
2. We generate more waste
3. Excess use of gadgets
4. Excess Deforestation
5. Increase pollution
5. 1.Excess Power Consumption
Power consumption is high due to technology.
We are addicted to television, smart phones and other
gadgets.
So we always need electronic energy to make them
work non stop.
This electric energy is generated by use of fossil or
nuclear fuels on large scale.
6. 2. We generate more waste
We contribute a large amount of toxic waste in the
name of technological up-gradation.
Previously people used large sized computers.
For these they needed large monitors, CPUs, separate
keyboards, mouse etc.
Now we tend to use laptops and tablets for
compactness and portability.
So in upgrading to laptops, all the large size desktop
computers were disposed in environment.
7. Similarly, Tungsten bulbs were replace by florescent bulbs
which are being again replace by incandescent bulbs.
These are highly toxic due to presence of heavy metals like
mercury, lead in them.
Though older technology is inevitable for development of new
technology, we generate much technological waste which is
harmful to the environment.
8. 3. Excess use of gadgets
Now a days we can see many people on roads, trains
and even parks busy on their mobiles or tablets.
This is more of an addiction to gadgets and the apps
inside.
This leads to need for Wi-Fi and other wireless
connectivity.
The radiation exposure is high leading to silent health
problems.
Even some birds also gets extinct in the region of these
Wi-Fi enabled areas.
9. 4.Excess Deforestation
In the name of development, comfort there is widespread
deforestation.
This is possible due to large capacity of machinery technology.
We make wide of greenery in short span and also dig tunnels
through a hill.
More over we lay out vast roads by clearing of greenery around.
Though it is useful to humans, it is definitely affecting the nature.
10. Hence we can see rapid extinction of many species of plants,
bird and animals due to widespread deforestation.
Countries with good percentage of forest area are having
friendly environment.
11. 5. Increase in pollution
We travel more and also unnecessarily sometimes.
By this we contribute to air pollution directly.
Everyday activities that depend on technology can lead to
high levels of pollution.
We can see that automobiles, power plants, factories,
industrial process, all these human activities are cause for
pollution.
Industrial processes process release harmful CFCs into the
atmosphere, depleting the quality of air.
12. The waste produced by these plants, are dumped into
the sea and other water bodies, causing water pollution.
Technology offered the agricultural industry with fertilizers
and pesticides, which emit harmful chemicals to the air
and water.
13. Conclusion
Technology as much as good as it has provided to the
people, has also lead to serious problem.
These problems are occur behind the scenes, and most
people turn their backs to these issues, they don’t know
they don’t care.
It is the time we know that technology is responsible for
environmental problems we face in the world today.
