Together with several European care professionals, we formed SAFE consortium in order to
save the lives of residents of aged-care facilities by preparing national care systems for
future pandemics.
At the moment, we are performing a Europe- wide research pointing to the scope of tragedy
of the pandemic. This research includes detailed figures and a summarized analysis about
the impact of coronavirus on European Institutional care systems specifically.
We believe you have the necessary expertise to help us in this matter and participate in the
first leading research concerning COVID-19 deaths in European care homes. We would
want to collect the information about:
- the amount of care homes hit by COVID-19
- the quantity of deaths resulting from the virus in those respective care homes
within the period of the first wave (1​st​
of March 2020- 1​st​
of June 2020)
- what steps national governments are taking to prepare the care system for a
second wave and future pandemics.
We have been performing desc research but up to now very few data is available in open
sources. Therefore, we would be grateful if you could provide contacts of national
responsible state bodies (like social care ministry, health ministry, sanitary inspection,
statistical bureau), that we can contact in order to obtain this data. You could also contact
them yourself if you wish, acting as SAFE expert and providing us with received data.
We understand, that currently the time period is quite difficult to collect the data, but that is
exactly the idea of our research- to provide the collected and summarized data before
1/9/2020, in order to allow the European Commission to be more effective in case of a new
wave of the pandemic, that is forecasted by several experts for September.
We are currently in contact with members of European Parliament, European Commission
as well as various media outlets who have confirmed their interest in publishing the findings
of our research. Naturally your name will also be mentioned as one of the people making this
research possible. We hope you will join us in this important cause.
