This study evaluated the growth rates of southern red oak, loblolly pine, and eastern red cedar trees in Carroll County, Tennessee over a 10-year period. Core samples were taken from 20 trees of each species at two sites and growth ring widths were measured. The eastern red cedar was found to have significantly larger growth ring widths than the southern red oak or loblolly pine. There were also significant differences between the growth rates of the southern red oak and loblolly pine. The results reject the hypothesis that there is no difference in growth rates between the three tree species.

This study investigated the effects of light intensity and pH on the regeneration of African violets through tissue culture. Leaf discs were cultured on media at different pH levels (4-8) and under lights with varying color temperature and color rendering index values. The greatest shoot regeneration occurred on pH 5, 6, and 7 media, with growth on pH 5 and 6 only under the hypothesized optimal light condition. Sterilization methods were optimized to reduce contamination. While growth was observed across pH levels and light conditions, the results provided partial support for the hypothesis that pH 6 media and a light with 4100K color temperature and 89 CRI would promote optimal regeneration. Further research is needed to fully understand these effects.
