Constraints
Every project gives you opportunities to create but also constraints to work to. Use this hand out to
consider the constraints which will affect your project.
Constraints
What timescale have you got for this project? How could this impact your work?
We have 42 days to do our project and I believe that this amount of time will allow me to do
drafts, get feedback from tutors and create my final project, with lots of contingency time. This will
greatly impact my work as I have lots of time to change and improve my ideas and work.

Are there any resources you will need for this project that you will not be provided with? How
could this affect your project? What can you do about this?
The main thing I need is Photoshop. I am provided with this at college. I may also need: a model,
some Irn-Bru, a camera, a studio, costumes, props and locations.

What constraints are in place regarding your approach to marketing? Do you think this will help
of hinder your project and why?
The constraints are they we must make an advert for Irn-Bru, stick to the same colour scheme,
logo and keep in touch with their previous sense of humour. I think it could possible hinder my
project as it restrains my ideas and what I could possibly come up with.

What restraints could be imposed by an organisation such as the Advertising Standards
Authority (ASA)? How could this impact your project?
Rule 4.1 under Harm and Offence in CAP’s advertising says that anything that is in marketing
communications must not have anything that could cause offence or widespread offence. Things
like gender, sexual orientation, race and religion are all involved in this. This will help me in my
project because I am now aware of what I don’t need to include and what I need to be aware of,
however I don’t think this will cause any problems in my project.
