Constraints
Every project gives you opportunities to create but also constraints to work to. Use this hand out to
consider the constraints which will affect your project.
Constraints
What timescale have you got for this project? How could this impact your work?
I will have 42 days to complete the project. This amount of time will leave me plenty of time to
deliver a product of the highest standard I am possible of. It may also offer me a large amount of
contingency time to correct any errors made during the project.
Are there any resources you will need for this project that you will not be provided with? How
could this affect your project? What can you do about this?
I will need access to Photoshop to design my product, I will have access to this programme at
college. I will also need a camera if I decided to on taking photographs for my advert, this again will
be provided by the college.
What constraints are in place regarding your approach to marketing? Do you think this will help
of hinder your project and why?
Irn Bru usually advertises a product with a humour that often results in a number of complains.
There are a number of constraints listed by the advertising watchdog the Advertising Standards
Authority this will restrict what I can and cannot put in my advert for Irn-Bru 32. I may not have the
required budget to advertise the product successfully and receive a substantial amount of
exposure; this would hinder my product hugely.
What restraints could be imposed by an organisation such as the Advertising Standards
Authority (ASA)? How could this impact your project?
Some of the humour in my advert that I wish to impose may be restricted by the ASA. This could
make coming up with a memorable slogan or promotion more difficult. I would have to make sure
if follows CAP’s rules surrounding advertising to do with: food, children, misleading advertising and
also harm and offence.

  • 1. Constraints Every project gives you opportunities to create but also constraints to work to. Use this hand out to consider the constraints which will affect your project. Constraints What timescale have you got for this project? How could this impact your work? I will have 42 days to complete the project. This amount of time will leave me plenty of time to deliver a product of the highest standard I am possible of. It may also offer me a large amount of contingency time to correct any errors made during the project. Are there any resources you will need for this project that you will not be provided with? How could this affect your project? What can you do about this? I will need access to Photoshop to design my product, I will have access to this programme at college. I will also need a camera if I decided to on taking photographs for my advert, this again will be provided by the college. What constraints are in place regarding your approach to marketing? Do you think this will help of hinder your project and why? Irn Bru usually advertises a product with a humour that often results in a number of complains. There are a number of constraints listed by the advertising watchdog the Advertising Standards Authority this will restrict what I can and cannot put in my advert for Irn-Bru 32. I may not have the required budget to advertise the product successfully and receive a substantial amount of exposure; this would hinder my product hugely. What restraints could be imposed by an organisation such as the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA)? How could this impact your project? Some of the humour in my advert that I wish to impose may be restricted by the ASA. This could make coming up with a memorable slogan or promotion more difficult. I would have to make sure if follows CAP’s rules surrounding advertising to do with: food, children, misleading advertising and also harm and offence.
