ROLLS ROYCE, NUCLEAR 1999 - Present
• Purchasing Development Executive – Responsible for executing overall improvement to the
Purchasing Function globally across the Nuclear Sector seeking to improve efficiency and
effectiveness of the purchasing teams.
• Procurement Manager Supply Chain Capability - Responsible for the development and
implementation of the Submarines Procurement and Supply Chain Capability Strategy involving
the management of a team of Category Leaders (now known as Global Commodity Leaders).
• Project Procurement Manager – Responsible for Purchasing across the Submarine Flotilla &
Waterfront Support Business and for the development, implementation of the Project
Procurement Strategies to support customer requirements for the UK’s in service fleet of nuclear
submarines.
• Purchasing & Supplies Manager for the Nuclear Support and Development Division
responsible for leading the development and implementation of technical services contracts in
support of the Nuclear Steam Raising Plant.

2. KEY ACHIEVEMENTS IN ROLE
• Led Nuclear Purchasing Transformation Project introducing standard procurement processes, role
profiles and a new organisational construct. Became the first Business Sector to pass the “Post
Implementation” milestone which entailed demonstrating to Global Steering Group compliance to
all Corporate Procurement processes and adherence to generic role profiles with associated
cascade of BPD objectives in individual staff PDRs.
• Development of the Submarines Procurement & Supply Chain Capability Strategy and
implementation plan. Led a number of Strategic Review Boards with the Operating Businesses to
gain key stakeholder endorsement to its Category Management Strategies through which key
elements of the Procurement Strategy is deployed.
• Developed and implemented a number of strategic partnership agreements (LTA’s) which provide
the business with access to suppliers with class excellence in engineering, scientific and
technology skills. The agreements compliment the business strategy, to develop suppliers as an
extension of R-R’s internal resource, managing engineering and design work packages. The
annual spend through these arrangements is now £60m per year (40% of total spend)
• Developed and implemented the procurement strategy for the replacement of the reactor control
instrumentation suite on Vanguard and Astute Class submarines. The strategy was presented to a
senior level MoD select committee chaired by the Directorate of Nuclear Propulsion (DNP),
which was endorsed and is active presently. This strategy originally developed in 2001 recently
went through Company GSB (June 2011) to commit the manufacturing phase of the Project.
• Developed and led a negotiation team to negotiate a five-year contract with a supplier to provide
the business with HR services for directed labour covering engineering and administrative
resource. The contract value was circa £16m and has delivered savings of £1m over the contract
duration.
• Lead Manager for Cost Reduction performance across Nuclear Sector, which has achieved annual
cost savings of between 2.5% to 3% of addressable spend whilst purchasing has achieved a high
level of delivery and quality conformance to the customer.
DAIMLER CHRYSLER RAIL SYSTEMS (JAN – JUNE 1999)
• Consultant engaged to support the implementation of a centralised procurement department for
the customer's rolling stock spares business based in Cheshire. Developed a contracting
framework for spares commodities, which is still in use.
BRITISH AEROSPACE, ROYAL ORDNANCE (1988 -1998)
• Supplies Manager - Responsible for all procurement categories including goods inwards, vendor
audit and scrap sales. Managed a team of around 30 staff and annual expenditure of £60m.
Successfully integrated procurement within manufacturing which led to an improvement in project
responsiveness and delivery to customer.
• Project Manager for one of the key defence programmes of its day, the AS90 Project. This
involved the development and production of a gun system for a new generation of light armoured
vehicles. The role entailed the management of design, manufacturing and purchasing interfaces
including reporting to the customer. Successfully mitigated contract risk and delivered on time.
• Contracts Manager responsible for negotiation and management of all artillery weapons
contracts. This involved bid preparation for weapon systems. Played a key role in helping the
company win contracts to the value of £100m.
• Assistant Contracts Manager responsible for the negotiation and management of PDS (Post
Development Service) contracts circa £20m per annum. Played a key role in moving the
organisation from a “cost plus” style of working to that of a risk based culture managing firm price
contracts.

3. • Contracts Officer responsible for vehicle post design contracts. Developed a strong working
relationship with engineering personnel to effectively manage contracts following the company’s
transfer from the public sector to the private.
