Reflection On How I Learned In English
As a young student we were first learned the alphabet, as year passed we turned that into sentences the to paragraphs then finally to essays. Through
my high school years my writing improvement seemed not to be improving. When I arrived into English 101, I realized that writing is a whole lot
more than just putting words onto paper. Improving on your writing ability can be very difficult and sometimes frustrating but when it's done well it
will stick with you and your writing could help you go far in your life. In English 101, I learned that the first step into writing an essay is to read and
annotate the articles that associate with the essays topic. While reading articles I learned that adding questions to the article as you read it. The
questions help me why the statement struck and interest to me and it's a great way to remember what points they covered in the essay. While in
English 101 I learned about how important it is to look into the authors credibility he is and to see if the article that I am reading is in his or her
expertise. While in this class I learned about how important the thesis statement is. Over the course of this class we have written many different essays
and in each essay, I realized that the thesis statement is the most important sentence in each one. I learned that combining the most important
information out of the article into one sentence. The whole point of a thesis statement is to bring in the reader's

Family Is The Most Important Of Socialization
A study on the Family

Week 3 Assignment 2
From infancy to childhood, teenage a person spends the learning phases of their life with their family. So the family becomes the most important of
socialization. This paper discusses why family is the most important of socialization. It reflects on the changes in the Americanfamily and the reason for
the changes. It identifies the differences in marriage and family life that are linked to class, race, gender, and personal choice and also discussed about
the trend.
Noticed that the children take after their parents not only in appearance but also in other aspects of life. From birth to many years, the adults with
whom the children are in most contact are the parents. The parents bonding in the formative years of their children lives, makes their teachings,
messages and communication have a lifelong impact of their decision making (Teachman, 2000). Socialization are embrace several sources of
socialization. Socialization provides children with information that is essential for the child to be able to function in society. Family is the most
important socialization of children lives, for example family, peers, neighborhoods, workplace, and media all play a role in children lives. Family
provides person with nature, care and love. Family is the reason for which a person turns out to be good or not, as they are the most important part in
the socialization

Descriptive Essay About My Family
My Cozy Home A home is a place where you have lived with your family for so long that it has, in a sense, become a part of you. It can be a
structure, a neighborhood, a state or a country. In my case, when I think of home, I initially think of a building, my house. My home, however, is
much more than just a house to me. It is also the place where I am always sure to find those I love most, my family. In a generation where there are
so many broken homes, I am fortunate to live with and be raised by two parents, who still love each other. I have two older sisters, Sabreena and
Trinity, and a dog, a poodle named Puffs. I live in a quaint, four bedroom house in a subdivision called Steeplechase in Avondale, Louisiana. My
house is a place of safety and refuge. My neighborhood is full of friendly, familiar faces. I have been smiling, waiving and occasionally talking to
these friends and acquaintances since we moved here when I was just two years old. Growing up in this environment has, I'm sure, contributed to
certain character and personality traits, which have made me who I am today. I am ultimately a trusting individual, who is both friendly and
hospitable. You can learn much about a person simply by walking through their home. For example, if you walk through my house, you would
instantly notice framed Bible verses, decorative crosses, inspirational sayings and a trophy case, filled with different types of past accomplishments. In
our living room, there is a

Child Abuse: Annotated Bibliography
Published case reviews draw special attention on the professionals lack of knowledge and confidence when assessing risk in children coming from
various religions and cultural backgrounds. A lack of understanding of these two key components, might put at significant risk the children's welfare,
leading professionals to overlook certain situations and to offer inadequate support or lower standards of care (NSPCC, 2017).
This annotated bibliography seeks to explore what are the lessons to be learned from this serious case review , how familiar are the S.W s with the
risk factors already identified and highlighted by these case reviews, what practical methods are already in place (such as culturally informed
assessment as a useful tool to depict early signs of neglect and abuse) and what it still needs to be done to ensure that religion and faith is not used as a

I shadowed a social worker who was interviewing a mother coming from a polish background who's child had been referred to the social services by
the school ,as being suspected of child abuse. Despite of the child's outstanding academic performance and his good overall appearance ,the boy in
question disclosed to his teacher that he sometimes get smacked by his parents. When mother was questioned about the concerns raised, she said that in
her culture this act wouldn't be considered as a form of abuse. She attributed her behaviour to her religious beliefs, to a collective understanding of her
people about correction and discipline concept which is transmitted from generation to generation. Apart from the communication difficulties that
occurred inevitably due to the mother's poor English, the social worker was not very confident in challenging the parents harmful practices which ,
especially when no visible signs of abuse or distress had not been

Video one, 'A Successful Sociologist Makes the Familiar Strange' has strong points and examples although it tended to lack depth in it's explanation
of the Sociological Imagination. Video two, 'Role of Sociological Imagination: Parades' went much deeper into what the sociological imagination is,
and, how we can apply it. The video gave great a great example of how we can interpret a particular society through social event, such as parades, by
examining which roles were given to which people, the placement of men and women of particular social backgrounds and what themes the parades

Spending Time With My Family
Spending time with my Family during the weekends
The most important thing for me in my life is my family. Although we are separated during the week, we would hardly see each other. Deep down,
they are the reason why I look forward to Fridays and Sundays. These days are not Just any ordinary day for my family because we get to come to
gather and have fun we bond as any other normal family dose. Another reason why my family is important to me is because my mother is my motivation
to finish the week she is the first person I see in the morning and the last person I see at night.
My Mother and I are the only ones that live in Storm Lake, so it is very hard and stressful sometimes because we really do not see each other due to
her working schedule. My mother works from 8:00 AM to 9:00 pM, every week except on Fridays. So during the rest of the week, I feel like I am
alone all the time.
Every day, I do the same thing, get out of school and go home. The house would feel so empty and silenced. Just me with my soul normally feeling
bored and depressed It's all that comes to my mind when there is no one to talk to. Mondays for me are the longest I feel that the day won't even
end from all the chores I have to do; taking out the trash , washing the dishes to making dinner. Everything is done by the time my mother comes
home so she won't have to worry about it. When my mom comes home, we sit near the table and eat food from there we say our good nights and set
off to go to

This winter we have likely all became quite familiar with disease. In Shakespeare's time, everyone certainly was. It was a significant part of life and
it held significant symbolic value. Shakespeare made the most out of the motif of a physical disease or deterioration to address moral failures of the
characters within the play. Much like a disease, moral corruption, and references to disease, spreads throughout the court of Denmark until it is at last
purged with violence.
Just as a disease starts with a single infection, the evil deeds in Hamlet start from a single seed, and from this seed, "things rank and gross in nature"
grow. Shakespeare uses the motif of disease and rot to illustrate this. It starts with a single immoral act,...show more content...
They agree to help Claudius, thereby "catching" the moral disease. Although their "symptoms" don't manifest themselves until later in the act on
2.2.326 when Hamlet describes his surroundings, likely including Rosencrantz and Guildenstern in his description, as "a foul and pestilent congregation
of vapours". Just in the same way, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern have a foul air about them as they have been recruited into the corrupt plot of
Claudius. However, just two more isn't enough, Claudius needs more involved in his scheme so he sees an opportunity in Polonius. With the innocent
intentions of trying to determine the source of Hamlet's seeming madness. He approaches the new King, Claudius and Queen with an offer to help spy
on Hamlet. Although Polonius had no bad intentions, he was now in league with the Claudius, the original perpetrator of the moral disease, and
therefore open to infection. Shortly after this agreement was made, Hamlet enters and is accosted by Polonius. As soon as it becomes apparent that
Hamlet recognises Polonius, he mentions maggots in a dead dog, and carrion(2.2.197). Although not explicitly disease ridden, carrion is typically
rotting. In a similar way Polonius doesn't explicitly have bad intentions for Hamlet but his actions do benefit Claudius and his rotten plot. So much like
a contagion spreads to new hosts, this moral corruption, and mentions of physical corruption have spread from Claudius to Polonius. Hamlet's

Addiction
Addiction is a familiar term for most of the world. By its simplest definition, addiction is habitual drug use that causes negative effects on the user's
health and social life despite efforts to stop using (Pinel, J.P. 2013). Drugs have been a part of human society for thousands of years. The quest to
alter one's consciousness is not a new one. Millions of people worldwide suffer from various forms of drug addiction. Yet for such a common affliction,
little is understood about how addiction really works.
Aside from the purely psychological component, there is a chemical component to how addiction functions in humans. When studying drug addiction,
two fields of study are involved. The first is Neuropharmacology. Neuropharmacology focuses on the drug induced changes to the functions of cells in
the nervous system. The other is Psychopharmacology. Psychopharmacology deals with the changes in mood, thinking, and behavior caused by drug
use. Both branches of medicine are equally important to explaining the nuances addiction. The work being done in these fields of study is making
strides to help addiction become more widely understood.
Much like chemical structures and effects vary from drug to drug, symptoms of addiction also vary. The most common indicator that someone is
addicted to a substance is that they cannot stop using that substance. Changes in personality often occur because of repeated

Making The Familiar Strange Analysis
Life is strange, and comes with many questions. Questions that do not have many answers. We create our own answers, with the help of sociologist
and other scientist that study human behavior. Sociologist study humans and use different concepts and methods to get further knowledge of society,
and helps us relate to other people in our society. Sociologist use many different tools, and resources to gain knowledge and date to help us
understand ourselves better. Making the familiar strange is a concept that sociologist use and it is a concept that makes people look at their typical life
in a different aspect. The book defines making the familiar strange as "to reconsider your assumptions about society and question what you have taken
for granted in order to better understand the world around you (4)." This can make a person completely question their lives. For example: using the
making the familiar strange concept...show more content...
This is why the concept is strange. Our everyday lives may consist of working, attending college, sleeping and eating just the basics but eventually
we get into a routine and do not venture from it, but why. Than we stop back and look like at our lives and we question ourselves. The familiar
becomes familiar because we get so use to it, but why do we get uses to it? We also learned in class, about symbolic interaction. Symbolic interaction
is noticing how symbols interact with everyday lives. The books definition of symbolic interaction is "a micro–level theory in which shared meaning,
orientations, and assumptions form the basic motivations behind people's actions (31)." Using the stop sign as an example again, we notice the stop
sign and that is a symbol telling us to stop and typically we do. The stop sign is just a piece of metal with the word "stop" written on it but we still
stop. Why is this? This is what sociologist look at when looking at symbolic

Relationships are no walk in the park. If you want relationships to work everyone involved needs to put in the work to communicate and work at
keeping the relationship going. In my essay about relationship stages I will discuss nonverbal communication in relationships, romantic relationships
and, relationships with family members. Nonverbal communication is a way to communicate without speaking and communicating verbally. According
to McCornack, "we define nonverbal communication as the intentional or unintentional transmission of meaning through an individuals non–spoken
physical and behavioral cues" (211). In relationships, an outsider can observe two people and tell what kind of relationship they share without
hearing the way they speak to each other. Nonverbal communication is just as important as verbal communication. Nonverbal communication
crucially serves to create intimacy between two people (McCornack, 234). According to McCornack intimacy is "the feeling of closeness and
"union" that exists between us and our partners" (234). I feel that young people, including myself, think that being intimate goes with having sex. I
was corrected by a teacher in high school who shared with me that being intimate with someone is not having sex. Since then I have felt like I have
had intimate relationships with not only my boyfriend but my best friend of 9 years. I share a bond with my best friend that is not like any other
friendship I have. We self–disclose, and we have a

Characteristics Of My Family Essay
Family is a truly special thing. Essentially, what makes a family so unique is that unification of a group of individuals with so many variant
characteristics. In fact, each and every one of our unique relatives, in their own individual way, contributes to that extraordinary bond that families
share. Our blood may define family, but it's those unique relationships: like the one with the controlling grandmother, that crazy aunt, or even that
inappropriately laid back uncle, that genuinely gives family a special sense of belonging. Every single family has a head, an alpha male or
female. This individual tends to believe the universe revolves around them, and that they resemble absolute royalty when compared to the rest of
the family. In my case, this is my grandma Rosaura. The fact is, that she is the oldest, most experienced person in our family. Correspondingly, she
is praised by the entire family as well as looked up to for guidance because of her " extensive knowledge". In fact, she was a very successful lawyer
who was able to raise four children by herself; two characteristics of my grandmother's life which she would never let us forget. Thus, emphasizing
herself as the epitome of what you would call "a woman who don't need no man". Furthermore, because of her position in the family, she's also
developed some very interesting traits over time. To begin with, she's extremely controlling and authoritarian. My mother is 46 and my grandma still
finds ways to boss her

Describe and analyse a subculture with which you are familiar.
The definition of a subculture is a culture within a culture where a group develops distinctive norms and values that are different from those of the
mainstream culture.
The subculture that I will be writing about is called the Fan Base which is also know as the Fandom.
A fan base or fandom is a group of regular supporters and enthusiasts that spend a rather large amount of time and energy focussing on a team,
musician or musical group, entertainer or any other celebrity; these different people/groups can be classed as sort of a leader or main person that holds
the group together.
Fan bases do not majorly differ from mainstream cultures when it comes to values...show more content...
Also, for many fan bases there are expectations for each fan to have some form of social networking account so then they can communicate with other
fans. Websites such as Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr would be the main examples of ways to communicate between fans. For music based fandoms,
there is the expectation of having to be at concerts, signings, radio tours and any other events that the musician/band they follow attend.
For fan bases there is not necessarily a method for learning the groups 'rules' or norms as you become part of a fan base by simply having
something common with another fan, so liking the same band or television show, having the same dedication toward a team or band and so on. This
means that you are automatically accepted as part of the group, however a lot of fans get agitated when fans that are part of their fandom decide to
'move fandoms' as they see it as a sort of betrayal to their 'leader', this can lead to unruly behaviour and many arguments within the fan base itself.
This kind of subculture emerged originally in the 1960s when pop music first arrived on the scene. It was during a time when teenagers wanted to
rebel against the system or just wanted be different to everyone else and this kind of music allowed them to do so. The first fan bases came about
because of groups like The Rolling Stones and the Beatles, these particular groups especially had an impact on mainstream culture as many teenagers

My Family Traditions
My family has a lot of different traditions, but one stands out more than the others. The holiday I am talking about is Christmas. My family has always
celebrated Christmas on Christmas Eve. We start the celebration by going to our church's Christmas Eve service. During this service, we sing
Christmas songs and watch a video of the first Christmas. After the service, all my family goes to my grandparents' house to open presents and have
supper. The meal is different than most Christmas meals. All of my family members bring an appetizer instead of bringing a main dish. One of
my cousins is Haitian and one of uncles is Italian, so we have a lot of different cultures represented. My favorite is my uncle's meatballs. Once we
eat we have two different places to sit. One is called the kids' room and the other is the adult room. You are supposed to sit at the kids' table if you
are not married. Once we have finished eating we all head to the living room to open presents. Before we open presents, one of my younger cousins
reads a Christmas poem. A different cousin reads the story every year.
When it is finally time to open presents, we always open them one person at a time and always go from youngest to oldest. We go one at a time
because my grandma likes to see what everyone got. Once everyone has opened their presents, my grandma tries to recruit some people to play
bingo. She likes being the person who calls out the numbers because that's what her mom always did. We have been doing all of these things for as
long as I can remember. My dad says they have been doing things this way for the last 40 years. My grandma is the main person that has been carrying
on these traditions.
I would say my grandmother is the glue to our family so everyone follows her lead. I think that my other family members are so used to doing these
things that they will continue to do them in the future. I would say I am a participant in this tradition. I am one of the younger grandchildren, so I do
not say much or try to change anything. If I did offer a new idea, I do think my grandma would consider it. My whole family takes part in this
tradition. I have six aunts and uncles and twelve cousins, so my family is pretty big. Everyone

Immersion– A Short Film The all too familiar situation of English language learners (ELLs) struggling in a classroom that is not meeting their needs
is the theme of this short film. ELL's present unique challenges for teachers given how the California educational system calls for only one year of
English language development (EDL). After this time, English language development goals rest on the shoulders of the general education teacher
with the additional requirement of infusing SADIE strategies into their daily lessons. In this short film titled IMMERSION, Moises, an immigrant
child with less than proficient English language skills, is seen in a real world context as he struggles with academics, specifically math, in a public
school setting in the U. S. The "structured English Immersion" program, which is in place to assist children like Moises falls short of providing the
supprts necessary for immigrant students to master a second language while they are also expected to build on academic skills. In this film, school
leadership has failed to recognize and back one teacher's pursuit of providing supports to ascertain whether the student is able to complete the
assignment in his naГЇve language or does he not understand the concepts. Even after advocating for himself and asking for the test in Spanish the
young boy is told not to worry as the test is not important. Unfortunately, Moises knows the test is significant and is then faced with a no win situation
at school.

Marriage; a familiar concept that has existed since ancient societies, has not always been the same concept modern society deems it to be. We, in
modern days, seem to instantaneously link love to marriage because it is a tradition that has been passed down to us from previous generations. Even
though today we accustom love with marriage because that is how it is perceived, for most of human history, marriage was not exactly the "traditional
tradition" as it is now.
Though marriage in modern society is viewed as a symbol of two people in love, history shows that love had no part in marriage. In the B.C years
(respectively before Christ), love was not a factor in the arrangement of marriage. In the article, "Betrothed Through the Centuries"...show more

As an effect of this, it was accustomed for the parents to marry off their daughters earlier in their life as compared to the men. In the article
"Marriages in Ancient Greece" the author states that, "Girls married between the ages of fourteen to eighteen, while typically men married in their
twenties or even thirties" (Marriages par 1). Girls were married off earlier because it was believed they would be more fertile in concieveing a child,
afterall, marriage some from the Latin term matrimonium, which is procured from mater, meaning mother.
As society evolved, so did the practice of marriage. In ancient times (the B.C years), the Catholic Church had no involvement with the martial process,
contrasting today's practice that a marriage between a man and a woman are sacred and religious. Edmonds states in her article that "For many
centuries, though, the Christian church took a decidedly hands–off approach to marriage" (Edmunds par 4). But in the 12th and 13th century the
Catholic Church became more involved in regulating marriages. Parts of those regulations were dictating who could get married and that the church
must participate in ceremonies. Edmunds states that, "Churches prohibited marriage between in–laws, blood relations and families who were linked by

A Literature Of Place Summary
A Literature of Place
In the essay, "A Literature of Place", by Barry Lopez examines that nature shapes our identity and morality. Lopez claims that if you're intimate with
a place, a place with whose history you are familiar with. Lopez supports the issue by describing the relationship you can bond with a place. Having
conversations with it listening for the sound of the wind or search for the smell of the water; the place knows you're there. It can feel you. Lopez
believes you will not be forgotten by the place. Also that writing more about what is outside world instead of one–self, and also about how nature

He raised birds, and thought they were magical, like everytime he looks up he can see their patterns. I feel that way about my dog Buddy I feel like

things like the fact that we live by the water and can experience all four different seasons all within the same week or so.When Lopez states that people

Argumentative Essay About Family
When I hear the word family, I think of people who are are blood related, the people you live with, and the people you see all the time. They
provide for you and embarrass you. People are also family, even if they aren't blood related, but are there for you no matter what and they mean
everything to you. Family is always by your side when you need them. People hear family and think about parents, I hear family and think about my
parents, aunts, cousins, friends, and my karate family. They are all so important to me and I don't know what I would do without them. On the other

Loyalty is sticking with the people who have hurt you or lost your trust. It's having someone's back even though they might've stabbed you in yours.
When you have loyalty, you don't leave someone just because they said something mean about you or you heard something from someone else. They
might have hurt you, or you might've gotten into an argument, but at the end of the day you will always be best friends. When you have loyalty is
doesn't matter what they said or what they did, you love them anyway. Similarly, how Romeo and Juliet get married behind their parents' backs. Also,
how when Romeo thought that Juliet was dead, he went and got a poison and killed himself. Another example is when Tybalt kept his loyalty to the
Capulet family by killing Mercutio.
When I hear the word trust I think of friends. You have to have a lot of trust in your friends and they need to be able to trust you. I have a huge
amount of trust in my best friend, I tell her everything. There are some people who say that you can trust them, but then it turns out that you can't and
they've told everyone your secret. I think that trust is confiding in a person or people that you know if you say, "don't tell anyone," they won't tell
anyone. For instance, in Romeo and Juliet, Friar Laurence kept Romeo and Juliet's trust by not telling anyone about their marriage. I think that Romeo
and Juliet trusted each other enough

My Day With My Family
I believe that I feel the most comfortable when I am home with my family. Any activity we do together is amazing. Whether it's watching a movie
together, having dinner, or having something to talk about. There is always a time of the day where we just have a good laugh about something
that happened throughout the day. I know my family will always be there for me and I will do the same for them. I believe that I am blessed to
have such a loving, caring, and compassionate family. I believe when times are tough, my family is my true comfort. Even if it's the smallest thing
like a headache or stomachache I feel better with just my mom doing anything for me to feel better. I don't need medicine to heal the smallest
pains; all I need is my family's love. I've never looked at another family and thought, "wow they have an amazing relationship, i am jealous".
Sometimes I do the opposite because I never had thought wrong about my family even when we're aggravated sometimes. I remember during the
summer we would have a cookout every single Saturday and Sunday. We would all get together and have my dads "special asadas". Which are a
special steak well done with allot of lime and spices. We would sit there for hours eating and having a beer. We would call close friends that we even
call family. I believe there is no perfect life or perfect family. I believe my family will overcome anything that causes pain or misery. I believe that we
are in full control of our own wellness, both

As a teacher it is important to become familiar with students not only on a personal level but on an educational level. Educators need to know how to
find previous known information about students and their culture. Furthermore, teachers need to be able to recognize what to do with information
given to them by students. Students also have different ways of learning and teachers need to learn how to differentiate their lesson plans accordingly.
There are many factors that teachers have to recognize in their students. Teachers need to know how to locate the background knowledge that their
students have prior to coming into their class. Ways to figure out students' prior knowledge is to do pre–testing. This can then be used to eliminate
lessons from the teachers agenda. With this understanding of content by the students, this eliminates time wasted teaching already learned concepts.
Furthermore, using an IEP is another way for a teacher to know what the student's needs and mastery of concepts are. A final way for a teacher to
understand the student is to just understand the student as a person. This can be done through various icebreaker activities. An educator can then learn
about the student's likes and dislikes along with their favorite subjects, favorite learning styles, and favorite activities which can be helpful when
making lesson plans. Next, there are different elements to that teachers need to take into account when making lesson plans. Gender and socioeconomic

Reflection On How I Learned In English

  • 1. Reflection On How I Learned In English As a young student we were first learned the alphabet, as year passed we turned that into sentences the to paragraphs then finally to essays. Through my high school years my writing improvement seemed not to be improving. When I arrived into English 101, I realized that writing is a whole lot more than just putting words onto paper. Improving on your writing ability can be very difficult and sometimes frustrating but when it's done well it will stick with you and your writing could help you go far in your life. In English 101, I learned that the first step into writing an essay is to read and annotate the articles that associate with the essays topic. While reading articles I learned that adding questions to the article as you read it. The questions help me why the statement struck and interest to me and it's a great way to remember what points they covered in the essay. While in English 101 I learned about how important it is to look into the authors credibility he is and to see if the article that I am reading is in his or her expertise. While in this class I learned about how important the thesis statement is. Over the course of this class we have written many different essays and in each essay, I realized that the thesis statement is the most important sentence in each one. I learned that combining the most important information out of the article into one sentence. The whole point of a thesis statement is to bring in the reader's Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 3. Descriptive Essay About My Family My Cozy Home A home is a place where you have lived with your family for so long that it has, in a sense, become a part of you. It can be a structure, a neighborhood, a state or a country. In my case, when I think of home, I initially think of a building, my house. My home, however, is much more than just a house to me. It is also the place where I am always sure to find those I love most, my family. In a generation where there are so many broken homes, I am fortunate to live with and be raised by two parents, who still love each other. I have two older sisters, Sabreena and Trinity, and a dog, a poodle named Puffs. I live in a quaint, four bedroom house in a subdivision called Steeplechase in Avondale, Louisiana. My house is a place of safety and refuge. My neighborhood is full of friendly, familiar faces. I have been smiling, waiving and occasionally talking to these friends and acquaintances since we moved here when I was just two years old. Growing up in this environment has, I'm sure, contributed to certain character and personality traits, which have made me who I am today. I am ultimately a trusting individual, who is both friendly and hospitable. You can learn much about a person simply by walking through their home. For example, if you walk through my house, you would instantly notice framed Bible verses, decorative crosses, inspirational sayings and a trophy case, filled with different types of past accomplishments. • 4. Child Abuse: Annotated Bibliography Published case reviews draw special attention on the professionals lack of knowledge and confidence when assessing risk in children coming from various religions and cultural backgrounds. A lack of understanding of these two key components, might put at significant risk the children's welfare, leading professionals to overlook certain situations and to offer inadequate support or lower standards of care (NSPCC, 2017). This annotated bibliography seeks to explore what are the lessons to be learned from this serious case review , how familiar are the S.W s with the risk factors already identified and highlighted by these case reviews, what practical methods are already in place (such as culturally informed assessment as a useful tool to depict early signs of neglect and abuse) and what it still needs to be done to ensure that religion and faith is not used as a distraction from...show more content... I shadowed a social worker who was interviewing a mother coming from a polish background who's child had been referred to the social services by the school ,as being suspected of child abuse. Despite of the child's outstanding academic performance and his good overall appearance ,the boy in question disclosed to his teacher that he sometimes get smacked by his parents. When mother was questioned about the concerns raised, she said that in her culture this act wouldn't be considered as a form of abuse. She attributed her behaviour to her religious beliefs, to a collective understanding of her people about correction and discipline concept which is transmitted from generation to generation. Apart from the communication difficulties that occurred inevitably due to the mother's poor English, the social worker was not very confident in challenging the parents harmful practices which , especially when no visible signs of abuse or distress had not been Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Video two, 'Role of Sociological Imagination: Parades' went much deeper into what the sociological imagination is, and, how we can apply it. The video gave great a great example of how we can interpret a particular society through social event, such as parades, by examining which roles were given to which people, the placement of men and women of particular social backgrounds and what themes the parades pandered Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Spending Time With My Family Spending time with my Family during the weekends The most important thing for me in my life is my family. Although we are separated during the week, we would hardly see each other. Deep down, they are the reason why I look forward to Fridays and Sundays. These days are not Just any ordinary day for my family because we get to come to gather and have fun we bond as any other normal family dose. Another reason why my family is important to me is because my mother is my motivation to finish the week she is the first person I see in the morning and the last person I see at night. My Mother and I are the only ones that live in Storm Lake, so it is very hard and stressful sometimes because we really do not see each other due to her working schedule. My mother works from 8:00 AM to 9:00 pM, every week except on Fridays. So during the rest of the week, I feel like I am alone all the time. Every day, I do the same thing, get out of school and go home. The house would feel so empty and silenced. Just me with my soul normally feeling bored and depressed It's all that comes to my mind when there is no one to talk to. Mondays for me are the longest I feel that the day won't even end from all the chores I have to do; taking out the trash , washing the dishes to making dinner. Everything is done by the time my mother comes home so she won't have to worry about it. When my mom comes home, we sit near the table and eat food from there we say our good nights and set off to go to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. This winter we have likely all became quite familiar with disease. In Shakespeare's time, everyone certainly was. It was a significant part of life and it held significant symbolic value. Shakespeare made the most out of the motif of a physical disease or deterioration to address moral failures of the characters within the play. Much like a disease, moral corruption, and references to disease, spreads throughout the court of Denmark until it is at last purged with violence. Just as a disease starts with a single infection, the evil deeds in Hamlet start from a single seed, and from this seed, "things rank and gross in nature" grow. Shakespeare uses the motif of disease and rot to illustrate this. It starts with a single immoral act,...show more content... They agree to help Claudius, thereby "catching" the moral disease. Although their "symptoms" don't manifest themselves until later in the act on 2.2.326 when Hamlet describes his surroundings, likely including Rosencrantz and Guildenstern in his description, as "a foul and pestilent congregation of vapours". Just in the same way, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern have a foul air about them as they have been recruited into the corrupt plot of Claudius. However, just two more isn't enough, Claudius needs more involved in his scheme so he sees an opportunity in Polonius. With the innocent intentions of trying to determine the source of Hamlet's seeming madness. He approaches the new King, Claudius and Queen with an offer to help spy on Hamlet. Although Polonius had no bad intentions, he was now in league with the Claudius, the original perpetrator of the moral disease, and therefore open to infection. Shortly after this agreement was made, Hamlet enters and is accosted by Polonius. As soon as it becomes apparent that Hamlet recognises Polonius, he mentions maggots in a dead dog, and carrion(2.2.197). Although not explicitly disease ridden, carrion is typically rotting. In a similar way Polonius doesn't explicitly have bad intentions for Hamlet but his actions do benefit Claudius and his rotten plot. So much like a contagion spreads to new hosts, this moral corruption, and mentions of physical corruption have spread from Claudius to Polonius. Hamlet's Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Abigail O 'Keefe Brain and Behavior Dr. Kelly Bordner April 26, 2015 Addiction Addiction is a familiar term for most of the world. By its simplest definition, addiction is habitual drug use that causes negative effects on the user's health and social life despite efforts to stop using (Pinel, J.P. 2013). Drugs have been a part of human society for thousands of years. The quest to alter one's consciousness is not a new one. Millions of people worldwide suffer from various forms of drug addiction. Yet for such a common affliction, little is understood about how addiction really works. Aside from the purely psychological component, there is a chemical component to how addiction functions in humans. When studying drug addiction, two fields of study are involved. The first is Neuropharmacology. Neuropharmacology focuses on the drug induced changes to the functions of cells in the nervous system. The other is Psychopharmacology. Psychopharmacology deals with the changes in mood, thinking, and behavior caused by drug use. Both branches of medicine are equally important to explaining the nuances addiction. The work being done in these fields of study is making strides to help addiction become more widely understood. Much like chemical structures and effects vary from drug to drug, symptoms of addiction also vary. The most common indicator that someone is addicted to a substance is that they cannot stop using that substance. Changes in personality often occur because of repeated Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Making The Familiar Strange Analysis Life is strange, and comes with many questions. Questions that do not have many answers. We create our own answers, with the help of sociologist and other scientist that study human behavior. Sociologist study humans and use different concepts and methods to get further knowledge of society, and helps us relate to other people in our society. Sociologist use many different tools, and resources to gain knowledge and date to help us understand ourselves better. Making the familiar strange is a concept that sociologist use and it is a concept that makes people look at their typical life in a different aspect. The book defines making the familiar strange as "to reconsider your assumptions about society and question what you have taken for granted in order to better understand the world around you (4)." This can make a person completely question their lives. For example: using the making the familiar strange concept...show more content... This is why the concept is strange. Our everyday lives may consist of working, attending college, sleeping and eating just the basics but eventually we get into a routine and do not venture from it, but why. Than we stop back and look like at our lives and we question ourselves. The familiar becomes familiar because we get so use to it, but why do we get uses to it? We also learned in class, about symbolic interaction. Symbolic interaction is noticing how symbols interact with everyday lives. The books definition of symbolic interaction is "a micro–level theory in which shared meaning, orientations, and assumptions form the basic motivations behind people's actions (31)." Using the stop sign as an example again, we notice the stop sign and that is a symbol telling us to stop and typically we do. The stop sign is just a piece of metal with the word "stop" written on it but we still stop. Why is this? This is what sociologist look at when looking at symbolic Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Relationships are no walk in the park. If you want relationships to work everyone involved needs to put in the work to communicate and work at keeping the relationship going. In my essay about relationship stages I will discuss nonverbal communication in relationships, romantic relationships and, relationships with family members. Nonverbal communication is a way to communicate without speaking and communicating verbally. According to McCornack, "we define nonverbal communication as the intentional or unintentional transmission of meaning through an individuals non–spoken physical and behavioral cues" (211). In relationships, an outsider can observe two people and tell what kind of relationship they share without hearing the way they speak to each other. Nonverbal communication is just as important as verbal communication. Nonverbal communication crucially serves to create intimacy between two people (McCornack, 234). According to McCornack intimacy is "the feeling of closeness and "union" that exists between us and our partners" (234). I feel that young people, including myself, think that being intimate goes with having sex. I was corrected by a teacher in high school who shared with me that being intimate with someone is not having sex. Since then I have felt like I have had intimate relationships with not only my boyfriend but my best friend of 9 years. I share a bond with my best friend that is not like any other friendship I have. We self–disclose, and we have a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Characteristics Of My Family Essay Family is a truly special thing. Essentially, what makes a family so unique is that unification of a group of individuals with so many variant characteristics. In fact, each and every one of our unique relatives, in their own individual way, contributes to that extraordinary bond that families share. Our blood may define family, but it's those unique relationships: like the one with the controlling grandmother, that crazy aunt, or even that inappropriately laid back uncle, that genuinely gives family a special sense of belonging. Every single family has a head, an alpha male or female. This individual tends to believe the universe revolves around them, and that they resemble absolute royalty when compared to the rest of the family. In my case, this is my grandma Rosaura. The fact is, that she is the oldest, most experienced person in our family. Correspondingly, she is praised by the entire family as well as looked up to for guidance because of her " extensive knowledge". In fact, she was a very successful lawyer who was able to raise four children by herself; two characteristics of my grandmother's life which she would never let us forget. Thus, emphasizing herself as the epitome of what you would call "a woman who don't need no man". Furthermore, because of her position in the family, she's also developed some very interesting traits over time. To begin with, she's extremely controlling and authoritarian. My mother is 46 and my grandma still finds ways to boss her Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Describe and analyse a subculture with which you are familiar. The definition of a subculture is a culture within a culture where a group develops distinctive norms and values that are different from those of the mainstream culture. The subculture that I will be writing about is called the Fan Base which is also know as the Fandom. A fan base or fandom is a group of regular supporters and enthusiasts that spend a rather large amount of time and energy focussing on a team, musician or musical group, entertainer or any other celebrity; these different people/groups can be classed as sort of a leader or main person that holds the group together. Fan bases do not majorly differ from mainstream cultures when it comes to values...show more content... Also, for many fan bases there are expectations for each fan to have some form of social networking account so then they can communicate with other fans. Websites such as Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr would be the main examples of ways to communicate between fans. For music based fandoms, there is the expectation of having to be at concerts, signings, radio tours and any other events that the musician/band they follow attend. For fan bases there is not necessarily a method for learning the groups 'rules' or norms as you become part of a fan base by simply having something common with another fan, so liking the same band or television show, having the same dedication toward a team or band and so on. This means that you are automatically accepted as part of the group, however a lot of fans get agitated when fans that are part of their fandom decide to 'move fandoms' as they see it as a sort of betrayal to their 'leader', this can lead to unruly behaviour and many arguments within the fan base itself. This kind of subculture emerged originally in the 1960s when pop music first arrived on the scene. It was during a time when teenagers wanted to rebel against the system or just wanted be different to everyone else and this kind of music allowed them to do so. The first fan bases came about because of groups like The Rolling Stones and the Beatles, these particular groups especially had an impact on mainstream culture as many teenagers spent a

  • 14. My Family Traditions My family has a lot of different traditions, but one stands out more than the others. The holiday I am talking about is Christmas. My family has always celebrated Christmas on Christmas Eve. We start the celebration by going to our church's Christmas Eve service. During this service, we sing Christmas songs and watch a video of the first Christmas. After the service, all my family goes to my grandparents' house to open presents and have supper. The meal is different than most Christmas meals. All of my family members bring an appetizer instead of bringing a main dish. One of my cousins is Haitian and one of uncles is Italian, so we have a lot of different cultures represented. My favorite is my uncle's meatballs. Once we eat we have two different places to sit. One is called the kids' room and the other is the adult room. You are supposed to sit at the kids' table if you are not married. Once we have finished eating we all head to the living room to open presents. Before we open presents, one of my younger cousins reads a Christmas poem. A different cousin reads the story every year. When it is finally time to open presents, we always open them one person at a time and always go from youngest to oldest. We go one at a time because my grandma likes to see what everyone got. Once everyone has opened their presents, my grandma tries to recruit some people to play bingo. She likes being the person who calls out the numbers because that's what her mom always did. We have been doing all of these things for as long as I can remember. My dad says they have been doing things this way for the last 40 years. My grandma is the main person that has been carrying on these traditions. I would say my grandmother is the glue to our family so everyone follows her lead. I think that my other family members are so used to doing these things that they will continue to do them in the future. I would say I am a participant in this tradition. I am one of the younger grandchildren, so I do not say much or try to change anything. If I did offer a new idea, I do think my grandma would consider it. My whole family takes part in this tradition. I have six aunts and uncles and twelve cousins, so my family is pretty big. Everyone Get more content on HelpWriting.net

ELL's present unique challenges for teachers given how the California educational system calls for only one year of English language development (EDL). After this time, English language development goals rest on the shoulders of the general education teacher with the additional requirement of infusing SADIE strategies into their daily lessons. In this short film titled IMMERSION, Moises, an immigrant child with less than proficient English language skills, is seen in a real world context as he struggles with academics, specifically math, in a public school setting in the U. S. The "structured English Immersion" program, which is in place to assist children like Moises falls short of providing the supprts necessary for immigrant students to master a second language while they are also expected to build on academic skills. In this film, school leadership has failed to recognize and back one teacher's pursuit of providing supports to ascertain whether the student is able to complete the assignment in his naГЇve language or does he not understand the concepts. Even after advocating for himself and asking for the test in Spanish the young boy is told not to worry as the test is not important. Unfortunately, Moises knows the test is significant and is then faced with a no win situation at school. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Marriage; a familiar concept that has existed since ancient societies, has not always been the same concept modern society deems it to be. We, in modern days, seem to instantaneously link love to marriage because it is a tradition that has been passed down to us from previous generations. Even though today we accustom love with marriage because that is how it is perceived, for most of human history, marriage was not exactly the "traditional tradition" as it is now. Though marriage in modern society is viewed as a symbol of two people in love, history shows that love had no part in marriage. In the B.C years (respectively before Christ), love was not a factor in the arrangement of marriage. In the article, "Betrothed Through the Centuries"...show more content... As an effect of this, it was accustomed for the parents to marry off their daughters earlier in their life as compared to the men. Girls were married off earlier because it was believed they would be more fertile in concieveing a child, afterall, marriage some from the Latin term matrimonium, which is procured from mater, meaning mother. As society evolved, so did the practice of marriage. In ancient times (the B.C years), the Catholic Church had no involvement with the martial process, contrasting today's practice that a marriage between a man and a woman are sacred and religious. Edmonds states in her article that "For many centuries, though, the Christian church took a decidedly hands–off approach to marriage" (Edmunds par 4). But in the 12th and 13th century the Catholic Church became more involved in regulating marriages. Lopez claims that if you're intimate with a place, a place with whose history you are familiar with. Lopez supports the issue by describing the relationship you can bond with a place. Having conversations with it listening for the sound of the wind or search for the smell of the water; the place knows you're there. It can feel you. When Lopez was talking about the native people it makes me think of living in Alpena for so long and knowing the personalities that people in this area tend to be the same pretty much because we are all shaped by the same things like the fact that we live by the water and can experience all four different seasons all within the same week or so.When Lopez states that people occupy the same moral universe as the landscape they sense, i can't relate to that because i don't really understand what he is trying to convey in that statement but i feel like he is trying to say that we soak up our morality from our Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Argumentative Essay About Family When I hear the word family, I think of people who are are blood related, the people you live with, and the people you see all the time. They provide for you and embarrass you. People are also family, even if they aren't blood related, but are there for you no matter what and they mean everything to you. Family is always by your side when you need them. People hear family and think about parents, I hear family and think about my parents, aunts, cousins, friends, and my karate family. They are all so important to me and I don't know what I would do without them. On the other hand, Romeo and Juliet displayed family in an interesting way. When Juliet said she didn't want to marry Paris, her mother said she would disown her if she didn't do...show more content... Loyalty is sticking with the people who have hurt you or lost your trust. It's having someone's back even though they might've stabbed you in yours. When you have loyalty, you don't leave someone just because they said something mean about you or you heard something from someone else. They might have hurt you, or you might've gotten into an argument, but at the end of the day you will always be best friends. When you have loyalty is doesn't matter what they said or what they did, you love them anyway. Similarly, how Romeo and Juliet get married behind their parents' backs. Also, how when Romeo thought that Juliet was dead, he went and got a poison and killed himself. Another example is when Tybalt kept his loyalty to the Capulet family by killing Mercutio. When I hear the word trust I think of friends. You have to have a lot of trust in your friends and they need to be able to trust you. I have a huge amount of trust in my best friend, I tell her everything. There are some people who say that you can trust them, but then it turns out that you can't and they've told everyone your secret. I think that trust is confiding in a person or people that you know if you say, "don't tell anyone," they won't tell anyone. For instance, in Romeo and Juliet, Friar Laurence kept Romeo and Juliet's trust by not telling anyone about their marriage. I think that Romeo and Juliet trusted each other enough Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. My Day With My Family I believe that I feel the most comfortable when I am home with my family. Any activity we do together is amazing. Whether it's watching a movie together, having dinner, or having something to talk about. There is always a time of the day where we just have a good laugh about something that happened throughout the day. I know my family will always be there for me and I will do the same for them. I believe that I am blessed to have such a loving, caring, and compassionate family. I believe when times are tough, my family is my true comfort. Even if it's the smallest thing like a headache or stomachache I feel better with just my mom doing anything for me to feel better. I don't need medicine to heal the smallest pains; all I need is my family's love. I've never looked at another family and thought, "wow they have an amazing relationship, i am jealous". Sometimes I do the opposite because I never had thought wrong about my family even when we're aggravated sometimes. I remember during the summer we would have a cookout every single Saturday and Sunday. We would all get together and have my dads "special asadas". Which are a special steak well done with allot of lime and spices. We would sit there for hours eating and having a beer. We would call close friends that we even call family. I believe there is no perfect life or perfect family. I believe my family will overcome anything that causes pain or misery. I believe that we are in full control of our own wellness, both Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Students also have different ways of learning and teachers need to learn how to differentiate their lesson plans accordingly. There are many factors that teachers have to recognize in their students. Teachers need to know how to locate the background knowledge that their students have prior to coming into their class. Ways to figure out students' prior knowledge is to do pre–testing. This can then be used to eliminate lessons from the teachers agenda. With this understanding of content by the students, this eliminates time wasted teaching already learned concepts. Furthermore, using an IEP is another way for a teacher to know what the student's needs and mastery of concepts are. A final way for a teacher to understand the student is to just understand the student as a person. This can be done through various icebreaker activities. An educator can then learn about the student's likes and dislikes along with their favorite subjects, favorite learning styles, and favorite activities which can be helpful when making lesson plans.
