Informational listening is "the name we give to the situation where the listener's primary concern is to understand the message" (Kline, J. A, 1996). It
is both very common and extremely helpful in many situations. Listening to your professor give a lecture or listening to your boss tell you how to get
a project done is an example of informational listening (Floyd, 2017, p.226). In fact, much of the listening that you do at work and school is

Due to the fact that this type of listening is done in order to learn something new or simply understand a message, paying attention to information
that only supports one's values and beliefs while they ignore information that does not can significantly hinder how well someone engages in
informational listening (Floyd, 2017, p.226). The example in the textbook is about a friend, named Tim and his girlfriend, named Molly, having a
conflict. Tim confides in you all of the negative things that Molly has said or done. Due to Tim being your friend, you are biased toward believing
him. When it comes time for Molly to talk to you about the situation, you tune her out because you have already made up your mind that she is at fault
in this conflict (Floyd, 2017, p.226). Another example of how confirmation bias can be a barrier to informational listening is related to religion and
personal beliefs. A student is listening to a lesson about evolution in their biology class. In order to effectively participate in informational listening,
they must hold back their Catholic religious beliefs. They must keep these beliefs at bay in order to abstain from judging and critiquing the message

After introducing the informational text we are looking at, we will discuss what an informational text is. I will explain that when good readers read
informational text they use the words, illustrations, and think of questions about things the students may wonder. I will tell the students we are going

I've learned that your first job may not be what you were anticipating but it's always good to just kind of get your "foot in the door" and see where

I remember it vividly because it was a very important milestone in my life. I recall I was thrilled to attend a birthday celebration for a girl whose

Informational and nonfiction books are similar in a lot of ways, but there are some key things about them that are different. They are the same in the
fact that the information in both are true, the major difference is that informational text does not need to have all the organizational tools, that a
nonfiction book requires. There is not a table of contents, glossary, or index. Informational text is important because they "build background knowledge
and support content learning" (Yopp, Yopp, 2012 p.480). Informational books can be used when learning about a particular subject like nonfiction,
informational text are just more relaxed when compared to nonfiction. An informational text I read this week is titled Ladybugs and this book is about
ladybugs, tells different facts about what they are, the body of them, and other important facts about ladybugs. The difference between this book and
the nonfiction book about Martin Luther King Jr, is that in Ladybugs there isn't any of the organizational tools used. This book is meant to teach a
reader about ladybugs without it looking like a typical nonfiction
