Writing an opinion paragraph.
In your opinion, should alcohol be prohibited to people under the age
of 21 years old?
Format:
• Topic sentence
• Supporting point 1 + details / examples / quotations X3
• Logical concluding sentence
• Use appropriate vocabulary
• Use correct spelling, grammar and punctuation.
ENG 101 Exam Review – Example Paragraph
In my opinion people under 21 years old should not be allowed to drink alcohol.
Firstly, people who are under 21 are not mature enough to drink alcohol. For
example, when they are drunk they will often make stupid decisions like drink
driving, fighting or engaging in anti-social behavior. Secondly, drinking alcohol at
a young age can cause many health problems. For instance, if you start drinking
alcohol at a young age you risk damaging your liver. Additionally, you may also
become an alcoholic in the future if you drink alcohol when you are young.
Finally, most people under 21 are in school. Therefore, they should not drink
alcohol because it will stop them studying. For example, if students under 20 are
drinking alcohol it means they might skip class or not concentrate in their classes.
Moreover, they may even drop out of school or university since their grades are
not high enough. I think that people under 21 are not mature enough to drink
alcohol, it causes health problems and it can affect people’s education. For these
reasons I think people under 21 years old should not drink alcohol.
