from others. They are developed throughout the whole
historical timeline. Many factors affect their development:
geography, history, interactions with other peoples. We have
decided to tell you about some of the most important
features of people in Moldova.
4. • Hospitality is an inalienable
feature of Moldovans, a special
codex that every family
supports. The reception of
guests is an important ritual, not
only on holidays, but also at the
usual time. Thus, the family
shows its status and improves
its reputation. How you receive
guests, that they will accept
you. Moldovans in the
countryside have houses with a
special room «Casa mare»,
where they always meet guests,
so this room is kept clean and
tidy.
5. • The tradition of hospitality is so
developed that there is a holiday
in the villages, when all people
do cleaning in the houses,
organize feasts and receive
guests. Frequent guests in
Moldova are relatives, they help
and support each other and in
gratitude they are honored as
guests. Therefore, hospitality is
exactly thing that keeps unity of
Moldavian nationality.
6. • Hospitality origins from Moldova’s
geographic location. During the
Middle ages, Moldova was situated
on the intersection of trade routes
between Poland, Hungary and the
Ottoman Empire. Many rich people
were traveling through Moldova’s
territory and they often had to stop
in villages. It was considered to be
prestigious when you could impress
a guest with your hospitality.

7. Family traditions
• Moldova was always rich in
agriculture and food, so people
could create big families. Many
couples prefer to create families
in autumn. The traditions of the
Moldovan wedding exist for
creating a strong family, for this
purpose a bride and a groom
choose the wedding special
people, who are called "nanashi".
In the future nanashi are the
instructors of a young family, and
in turn they should listen to their
advice, visit, congratulate on
holidays.
8. • The ritual of gift giving to bride and groom , according to folk tradition,
is called - Masa Mare (Big Table). Each guest with congratulations and
wishes announces publicly about his/her gift.With the birth of a child ,
parents choose godparents and celebrate cumetria (christening). All
godparents , and they can be up to 50 people, receive from the parents
baked food and in turn give the baby gifts. All family Moldovan
traditions were created for strong, big and united family.
9. Interethnicity
• Interethnicity is another major
feature of Moldovans. Our
people are very polite to different
nations and religions.
From ancient times, Moldova
was a place for different nations.
Some of them migrated through
Moldova, some of them
remained here. Moldavian
nationality was formed by
different nations through the
years, so we can say that
Moldavians are polite to other
nations from the ancient times.
10. • Today, in Moldova live a lot of different nations: Russians, Romanians,
Ukrainians, Bulgarians, Poles and others.

make them special. Every people in the world has
something different about it and that makes our world
