2. NATURE
• Nature is all about those characteristics
that are inherited from genes from our
parents.
• It refers to all the genetics inherited factors
biological influence , our physical
appearance and personality
characteristics…
• Biological transmitted factor that influence
the structure of the body.
• Physical traits or mental traits from parents.

INFLUENCING THE GROWTH
AND DEVELOPMENT OF A
CHILD

Biological factors
Intelligence
Emotional factors
Social factors
4. HEREDITY
Play their part at the time of conception
in the mother’s womb. What is transferred
to the offspring from its immediate parents
in the form of genes, chromosomes at this
time constitute the hereditary contribution.
The height, weight, color of the eyes the
skin, the characteristics of the hair are all
decided by these hereditary influences.
5. The physical structure, nervous system and other
things related to one’s constitutional makeup,
chemistry and physical development are
decided by hereditary factors.
6. BIOLOGICAL FACTORS
The chemistry of the body is governed by
the following glands. Each of these glands
secretes its own chemicals known as
hormones. These reach the bloodstream and
get circulated throughout the body.
7. Thus they influence body functioning with
respect to emotional actions and even thoughts,
and therefore, the functioning of the ductless
glands exercises a great influence on various
aspects as physical, social, mental, emotional
and moral of a person’s growth and
development
8. A. If a child is physically weak or has
internal deformities then his achievement
is minimized in terms of growth and
development with respect to mental, social
and emotional also.
B. The nervous system which controls the
body movement affects the growth and
development of a child in cognitive
spheres.
C. The endocrine or ductless glands are
potent factors affecting the growth and
development of an individual from his
birth.
9. INTELLIGENCE
The intelligence is the ability to learn,
adjust and take a significant role at right time
in the overall growth and development of a
child. It affects his social behavior, moral
adjustment and emotional growth.An
intelligent person is said to have a reasonable
control over his emotions and is found to
carry on well his personal and social
adjustments.

child is greatly influenced and controlled
by the level of his intelligence.

growth and development. He / She
may learn from his/her environment
more by means of his/her social
nature, which may prove to boon to
him/her for his/her proper growth and
development.
15. Studies supporting internal factors
• Hybrid experiments and selective
breeding with animals.
• Galton studies-977 genius from 800
british families.
• H.H.Goddard- Kallikak family .
• Juke family- 1200descendents-corrupt
fisherman correlation studies on IQ
by Burt &Howard.
16. Impacts of internal factors on
development
Height , weight, colour ,
Intelligence ,Vulnerability to
certain diseases correlate
between genetically related
individual.
Individual difference –Unique
genetic code.
17. Implication in Education
Whatever maybe nature makeup the
individual will grow and develop is
potentialities in accordance with his
environment.
Maximum development with maximum
opportunities.
Duty of teachers and parents to see every
child gets maximum opportunity for his
development.
18. Conclusion
Not a question of either nature or
nurture but it is nature and
nurture.
Thus nature and nurture are
complementary and not
contradictory to growth and
development of the individual.
