Cognitive development
The construction of thought process including remembring, problem
solving and decision making from childhood through adolesence to adult.
It refers to how person percieves think the interaction of genetic
and learned factors.
TWO MAJOR FACTORS
BIOLOGICAL FACTORS
• Sense organs
• Intellegence
• Heredity
• Nutrional factors
• Sensory organs
• Maturation
ENVIRONMENTAL
FACTORS
• Learning opportunities
• Economic status
• External Stimuli
• Family and society
• Family
A.SENSE ORGANS
Sense organs are important because they recieve stimuli from the
environment.Their proper development helps in recieving correct
stimuli and correct concepts are formed
B.INTELLIGENCE
It has been seen that cognitive development of intelligent children is
better.Children with low intelligence Quotient are not able to recieve
stimuli from the environment property thus, their cognitive development
logd behind.
C.HEREDITY
Cognitive development is also influence by the heredity traits, one
get from the parents, their development is similar to their parents
cognitive development.
D.NUTRIONAL FACTORS
According to research women who do not consume enough amounts
of protein during their pregnancies ruin their childrens chances of
cognitive development. This is because proteins play an important role
in the development of the brain.
E.SENSORY ORGANS
Are important in cognitive development, they enable children
to recognize things and people around them more
easily.Children with disalibilities in sensory organs develop
cognitive abilities more slowly as compared to those who are
normal.
F.MATURATION
As the child get matured they gets more interactive with their
environment for a good cognitive development interaction with
environment is very necessary which the child thoes it with the help of
the mental and motor maturation.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
A.LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
The opportunity a child gets to
learn the cognitive
development.The more
opportunity they gets the better is
the cognition,because they will be
able to add to their mental
capacities by learning through
these opportunities.
B.ECONOMIC STATUS
Economic status of the family also helps in the
development of cognition.
Children from better economic status get more
opportunities and better training and it helps in cognitive
development.
C.EXTERNAL STIMULI
Extern stimuli such as books and learning toys are important in
developing cognitive abilities,experts recommended that
children be exposed to books at an early age and little amounts
to television as this tends to reduce cognitive development.
D.FAMILY AND SOCIETY
Children who interact frequently with other people tend to become
brighter and gain confidence as compared to those who relate with
less people.
It is important for children to interact with others as this helps them
to built their language and speaking skills they are also likely be
read to which makes them learn faster.
E.PLAY
Although many people take it for granted, play is essential aspect to
cognitive development.Scientists recommended that children be
ecposed to toys that help build their cognitive abilities such as ablities
to recognize numbers and letters.
LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT
LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT
Is a higher level cognitive skill involving audition and oral abilities in
humans to communicate verbally individuals wants and needs.
5 BASIC ASPECTS OF LANGUAGE
DEVELOPMENT
• PHONOLOGY
• MORPHOLOGY
• SYNTAX
• SEMANTICS
• PRAGMATICS
IMPORTANCE OF LANGUAGE
DEVELOPMENT
It supports the ability of
your child to
communicate ,express
and understand feelings.
It also supports your
childs thinking ability and
helps them develop and
maintain relationship.
FACTORS AFFECTING COGNITIVE
AND LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT
WHAT IS LANGUAGE?
Is the human ability to acquire and use completex system of
communication particularly language like English is a specific example
such as a system. The scientific study of language is called LINGUISTIC.
Linguistic experts say that although every child does not
reach the same milestone language development at the same
natural human progression in the main factor in language
development.
THREE MAIN FACTORS
THAT AFFECT LANGUAGE
DEVELOPMENT.
• LANGUAGE
• EDUCATIONAL
• BIOLOGICAL
SOCIAL
A child's language development directly depends on its
social interactions with its parents,siblings,peers,and
caretakers new words in a child vocabulary results due to its
interaction with others.
EDUCATIONAL
Educational environment significantly affects the child's
language and though development is boosted by connect
exposure to leading and listening to correct language being
spoken.
BIOLOGICAL
Some children are slow in
language and speech
development due to
biological problem like
AUTISM,CLEFT LIP
PALATE,Brain injury during
birth.
