The foundation of any building forms the basis for its
strength and further development, like wise for any
student, his/her future is laid only by his/her school
teachers.
Teaching is a unique profession that leads to betterment of
the society, making of good human being and responsible
citizens. Teachers could be accountable and have to
perform challenging duty with utmost care and expertise.
On the other hand-
īƒŧTeaching profession is one of the most challenging
professions. It is the responsibility of the teacher to develop
his/her students, so that they can become individually and
socially useful. Not only the academic responsibilities, but
teachers have to shoulder many administrative duties in the
institution. If they are to perform their duties effectively, their
working conditions should be made satisfactory.
Purpose of the study:
īƒ˜Therefore it is very much significant to study the professional
satisfaction of secondary school teachers. In link with this
purpose, it has been investigated whether professional
satisfaction levels of secondary school teachers show any
differences in terms of gender, type of locality, type of
management, teacher grade and teaching subject as
variables.
Objectives of the study :
īƒ˜To study the level of professional satisfaction of
secondary school teachers.
īƒ˜To find out significant difference between male and
female of secondary school teachers with respect to
professional satisfaction.
īƒ˜To find out significant difference between type of
locality i.e. rural and urban secondary school teachers
with respect to professional satisfaction.
īƒ˜To find out significant difference between type of
management i.e. government and private secondary school
teachers with respect to professional satisfaction.
īƒ˜To find out significant difference between teacher grade i.e.
secondary grade and school assistant with respect to
professional satisfaction.
īƒ˜To find out significant difference between teaching subject
i.e. languages and group subjects of secondary school
teachers with respect to professional satisfaction.
Hypotheses framed:
īƒ˜The level of professional satisfaction of secondary school
teachers is high.
īƒ˜There is no significant difference between
Gender i.e; male and female
Locality i.e; rural and urban
Management i.e; government and private
Teacher grade i.e; secondary grade and school assistant
Teaching subject i.e; languages and group subjects
of secondary school teachers with respect to professional
satisfaction.
Method of study:
īƒ˜Considering the objectives of the study the
investigators has adopted survey method.
īƒ˜The simple random sampling technique is
adopted in the present study.
Sampling frame :
īƒ˜The present study concerned with the secondary school
teachers.The size of the sample is 260.
Tool adopted :
īƒ˜A personal data sheet was prepared by the investigators to
know about the secondary school teacher’s gender, locality,
type of management, teacher grade and teaching subject.
īƒ˜An attitude scale with 20 items was
prepared by the investigators and were
arranged on a five point scale with
following five alternatives i.e. Strongly
agree, agree, undecided, disagree and
strongly disagree, like type scale was
adopted for collection of data.
īƒ˜The investigators have calculated the
Test-Re-test method to find the
reliability of the scale on professional
satisfaction among secondary school
teachers and the value of reliability of
the scale was 0.86.
Statistical techniques used :
īƒ˜The data collected by the professional
satisfaction scale was analyzed by using
statistical techniques like Mean,
Standard deviation and t-values.
Analysis and Interpretation of the data :
īƒ˜It was interesting to notice that mean
score of professional satisfaction for
entire sample secured lies between 45.42
to 78.5 reveals average professional
satisfaction.

Findings of the study :
īƒ˜The study revealed that the level of professional
satisfaction of secondary school teachers is
average.
īƒ˜The study revealed that there is significant
difference between male and female secondary
school teachers with regard to their professional
satisfaction.
īƒ˜The study revealed that there is significant
difference between rural and urban secondary
school teachers with regard to their professional
satisfaction.
īƒ˜The study revealed that there is significant difference
between type of management i.e. government and private
secondary school teachers with regard to their professional
satisfaction.
īƒ˜The study revealed that there is significant difference
between teachers of secondary grade and school assistants
with regard to their professional satisfaction
īƒ˜The study revealed that there was no significant difference
between teachers who teach languages and group subjects
with regard to their professional satisfaction.
Conclusion:
īƒ˜The present study showed that secondary school
teachers in general have average professional
satisfaction. All teachers were not fully satisfied with
their profession in relation to certain aspects like
head of the institution and other teaching staff,
student aspects, physical facilities, methods of
teaching, and management related aspects.
Simultaneously, the institutional support towards
teachers in enhancing professional satisfaction is
very important.
īƒ˜The institution should support teachers towards
achieving professional satisfaction are self
developmental opportunities, short term courses,
seminars, workshops, high appreciation and rewards
for respectable work are some of the ways in which
professional satisfaction can be improved.
īƒ˜Hence the study suggests a positive work
environment with all respects should be introduced
for teachers to attain a better professional
satisfaction.

  • 4. The foundation of any building forms the basis for its strength and further development, like wise for any student, his/her future is laid only by his/her school teachers. Teaching is a unique profession that leads to betterment of the society, making of good human being and responsible citizens. Teachers could be accountable and have to perform challenging duty with utmost care and expertise.
  • 5. On the other hand- īƒŧTeaching profession is one of the most challenging professions. It is the responsibility of the teacher to develop his/her students, so that they can become individually and socially useful. Not only the academic responsibilities, but teachers have to shoulder many administrative duties in the institution. If they are to perform their duties effectively, their working conditions should be made satisfactory.
  • 6. Purpose of the study: īƒ˜Therefore it is very much significant to study the professional satisfaction of secondary school teachers. In link with this purpose, it has been investigated whether professional satisfaction levels of secondary school teachers show any differences in terms of gender, type of locality, type of management, teacher grade and teaching subject as variables.
  • 7. Objectives of the study : īƒ˜To study the level of professional satisfaction of secondary school teachers. īƒ˜To find out significant difference between male and female of secondary school teachers with respect to professional satisfaction. īƒ˜To find out significant difference between type of locality i.e. rural and urban secondary school teachers with respect to professional satisfaction.
  • 8. īƒ˜To find out significant difference between type of management i.e. government and private secondary school teachers with respect to professional satisfaction. īƒ˜To find out significant difference between teacher grade i.e. secondary grade and school assistant with respect to professional satisfaction. īƒ˜To find out significant difference between teaching subject i.e. languages and group subjects of secondary school teachers with respect to professional satisfaction.

Hypotheses framed: īƒ˜The level of professional satisfaction of secondary school teachers is high. īƒ˜There is no significant difference between Gender i.e; male and female Locality i.e; rural and urban Management i.e; government and private Teacher grade i.e; secondary grade and school assistant Teaching subject i.e; languages and group subjects of secondary school teachers with respect to professional satisfaction.
  • 10. Method of study: īƒ˜Considering the objectives of the study the investigators has adopted survey method. īƒ˜The simple random sampling technique is adopted in the present study.
  • 11. Sampling frame : īƒ˜The present study concerned with the secondary school teachers.The size of the sample is 260. Tool adopted : īƒ˜A personal data sheet was prepared by the investigators to know about the secondary school teacher’s gender, locality, type of management, teacher grade and teaching subject.
  • 12. īƒ˜An attitude scale with 20 items was prepared by the investigators and were arranged on a five point scale with following five alternatives i.e. Strongly agree, agree, undecided, disagree and strongly disagree, like type scale was adopted for collection of data.
  • 13. īƒ˜The investigators have calculated the Test-Re-test method to find the reliability of the scale on professional satisfaction among secondary school teachers and the value of reliability of the scale was 0.86.
  • 14. Statistical techniques used : īƒ˜The data collected by the professional satisfaction scale was analyzed by using statistical techniques like Mean, Standard deviation and t-values.
  • 15. Analysis and Interpretation of the data : īƒ˜It was interesting to notice that mean score of professional satisfaction for entire sample secured lies between 45.42 to 78.5 reveals average professional satisfaction.

Findings of the study : īƒ˜The study revealed that the level of professional satisfaction of secondary school teachers is average. īƒ˜The study revealed that there is significant difference between male and female secondary school teachers with regard to their professional satisfaction. īƒ˜The study revealed that there is significant difference between rural and urban secondary school teachers with regard to their professional satisfaction.
  • 18. īƒ˜The study revealed that there is significant difference between type of management i.e. government and private secondary school teachers with regard to their professional satisfaction. īƒ˜The study revealed that there is significant difference between teachers of secondary grade and school assistants with regard to their professional satisfaction īƒ˜The study revealed that there was no significant difference between teachers who teach languages and group subjects with regard to their professional satisfaction.
  • 19. Conclusion: īƒ˜The present study showed that secondary school teachers in general have average professional satisfaction. All teachers were not fully satisfied with their profession in relation to certain aspects like head of the institution and other teaching staff, student aspects, physical facilities, methods of teaching, and management related aspects. Simultaneously, the institutional support towards teachers in enhancing professional satisfaction is very important.
  • 20. īƒ˜The institution should support teachers towards achieving professional satisfaction are self developmental opportunities, short term courses, seminars, workshops, high appreciation and rewards for respectable work are some of the ways in which professional satisfaction can be improved. īƒ˜Hence the study suggests a positive work environment with all respects should be introduced for teachers to attain a better professional satisfaction.
