AGGRESSION A type of behavior intending to cause physical or mental harm to yourself or others. “So are all aggression BAD?” Aggression can be normal, and is only an indicator of underlying disease when feelings become excessive, all-consuming and interfere with daily living. PRO-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR A type of behavior that intents to benefit other people or society as a whole. Helping, sharing, donating, co-operating, and volunteering are examples of pro social behaviour. Obeying the rules and conforming to socially accepted behaviors are also regarded as pro-social behaviors.

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN AGGRESSION AND PRO-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR ❑ Children who engage in aggressive behavior may subsequently not perceive pro-social behaviors as response options or they may not evaluate them as strategies that are associated with internal or external gratifications. ❑ Aggressive behavior and pro-social behavior, have been identified as crucial in children’s social development. ❑ Findings say increasing pro-social behavior decreases aggression but proper management of aggression is necessary rather than just shutting down the aggressive feelings. So you should probably do it !!) ▪ Talking and writing therapy. ▪ Displacement or transfer of aggression. ▪ Training to tolerate frustration and take it out in a positive way. ▪ Be positive. ▪ Avoid power struggles or unhealthy competition. ▪ Display cultural sensitivity. HOW TO INCREASE PRO-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR? ▪ Provide warm and supportive parenting. ▪ Reflecting on self and others. ▪ Volunteering and helping. ▪ Show basic kindness to others. ▪ Focus on positive reinforcement in children and not punishment. ▪ Inculcate the ideas of empathy and responsibility towards society. ▪ Don’t diffuse your responsibility to others (By- stander effect) .INTERVENE.
