Incentives are monetary or non-monetary benefits provided to employees for outstanding performance. There are two types of incentives: financial incentives like increases in salary, profit sharing, bonuses, and commissions; and non-financial incentives like promotions, a positive work environment, job security, and incentives based on years of service, top performance, customer service, and employee wellness. Incentives are important as they motivate employees, increase productivity, and attract employees with new skills.
