Electronic Journals are the source of information provide the research
based content to its audience.
Intellectual content journal provide access via electronic transmission
through digital devices i.e., Desktop, Laptop, Tablets, LED, iPad, Cell
phone and etc.
Some its refer as e-Journals, Online Journals, electronic serial, Electronic
editions

Frist printed journal published in 1665 Royal Society, London and
first scientific journals
There different dates and described by various author regarding
the history of the 1st electronic journals. In 1961
The first scholarly electronic journal can be dated back in 1979
(Roes, 1996).
Lancaster referred this attempt was not successful due to various
technological reasons.
There are further development and progress within the passage
of time, there mushroom growth of electronic Journals are began
in after 1994 commercial publisher are entered in this field since
last eighties

Open access journals provided full-text content to its
reader free under the licenses of creative common 4.0 for
the none commercial use and cite with specific sources.
DOAJ
Directory of Open Access Journal (DOAJ) is free open
access site near about 16,000 plus peer reviewed journal
are indexed in this directory and 6.1 Million plus articles
126 country journals participation in 80 Languages.

content/articles are available in Open Access and few
article are available on closed or subscription based

article/content before the publication with the expert of the same
filed. There three types of peer reviewed Journals.

14. The Advantage of Electronic Journals
1. Electronic journals allow for more speed in the scientific communication
process.
2. Electronic articles are not limited in size.
3. it is possible to add experimental data, software, and even multimedia
extensions like simulations.
4. An articles can be linked with the body of scholarly literature.
5. There is a promise of a more open peer review process.
6. Electronic journals demand no library space nor shelving costs nor can they
be stolen from the library.
7. Electronic journals are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

1. Back issue removed from the databases and websites
without any notice to the customer.
2. Difficult to Access back file sometimes it is not
accessible for more than 5 years or more.
3. Computer, Mobile Screen reading affect your eyesight
and other health issues.
4. Institutional Access Journal article cannot read off
Campuses
5. Chance of Virus and Cyber-attacks to journal website.
6. Discontinue of a journal subscription libraries does not
have any back up of subscribing period journal

16. Characteristics of Good Electronic Journals
1. E-Journal be Peer reviewed.
2. E-Journals have good editorial and experts team of the subject field.
3. Should be indexed in major databases indexing bibliographical databases i.e.,
Web of Science, JCR, CrossRef, Scopus, EBSCO, and etc.
4. Should have an Impact Factor.
5. E-Journal published by the renown publisher and reputable publishers. Wiley,
Ovid, Taylor & Francis, Emerald, Elsevier, Sage, Cambridge, Oxford, JStore and
etc.

1. Scholarly Journals
Scholarly Journals are peer reviewed journals and indexed in major indexing
sites. Produced quality publications
2. Predatory Journals
Predatory Journals take advantage of authors by asking them to publish for a fee
without providing peer-review or editing services. Because predatory publishers
do not follow the proper academic standards for publishing, they usually offer a
quick turnaround on publishing a manuscript.
