Bahawalpur
City of Mahals (Palaces)
Muhammad Nabeel Amjad
The State belongs to the ruling family of the
Abbasid clan and has directly descended from
Hazrat-i-Abbas, the uncle of Holy Prophet
Muhammad (May Peace Of Allah Be Upon Him).
Ameer of Bwp, Lt. General, His Highness, Alhaj Sir
Sadiq Mohammad Khan V, was the sixtieth in
descent from Hazrat-i-Abbas Bin Mutlib.
The Dauadpotra (sons of D’aud) Abbasids founded
the Princely state of Bahawalpur in 1609 AD in
Uch.
The state has fertile land in Indus valley while
desert train of Cholistan desert(Rohi).
The State was abolished in 1955 and when it was
merged with the province of West Pakistan

The state covered an area of 45,911 km sq
Ameer
• Ameer of Bahawalpur, Lt. General, His
Highness, Alhaj Sir Sadiq Mohammad Khan
V, the last ruling and perhaps the most
popular Nawab of Bahawalpur State
• He founded Jamia Abbasia and
Bahawalpur Central Library which is
Pakistan’s largest Library in Bahawalpur
• Sadiq Egerton College and Bahawal
Victoria Hospital and many more are
descendants of his legacy.

bird of the state, due to its quality of
strong bond of loyalty. Found
commonly on Indus valley basin.

Sadiq Public School
• His Highness Sir Sadiq Mohammad Khan Abbasi, the Ameer of Bahawalpur laid the foundation
stone of Sadiq Pubic School on 4th March 1953
• Among the largest and prestigious schools of continent Asia covering 450 acres of land.

• Formerly known as Jamia Abbasia, a public
sector university that ranks 3rd in Pakistan

• Providing diversity in programs with more
than 100 thousand enrolled students
Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH)
• Started functioning in 1876
• In 1952, a benevolent extension
of Nursing School, Its nexus
with Quaid e Azam Medical
College (QAMC) in 1970
has transformed it into one of
the largest tertiary care facilities
in the province with 2200 beds
capacity.
Heritage
• Abbassi Mosque
This mosque’s exquisite cupolas and
domes were built of the highest
quality White marble in 1849 by
Nawab Bahawal Khan, who was
known for his dedication to
beautiful architecture in
Bahawalpur.
• Derawar Fort
130 kilometres south of Bahawalpur
City and this impressive fort is well
worth the drive. It has forty bastions
which are visible for miles all around in
the Cholistan Desert. It was built in the
9th Century, and has withstood the
tests of time quite well with its five-
foot thick walls.
• Gulzar Mahal
This palace has the privilege of being the
first building in Bahawalpur to have
concealed electrical wiring and was
commissioned by Nawab Sadiq
Muhammad Khan IV. Similar to Noor
Mahal, its architecture has distinctly
European influences and is worth visiting.
• Sadiq Garh Palace
The only Palace which is far more superior to all
others in terms of elegance and glory is named
Sadiq Garh Palace. Established in 1882 by His
Highness Nawab Sadiq Muhammad Khan (IV),
shows same view from all four sides.
• Noor Mahal
Noor Mahal is a surprising wonder of
architecture in the city. Built to resemble
Italian chateaus along neoclassical lines, this
palace was made in 1872 on the behest of
Nawab Sadiq Muhammad Khan for his wife.
It is partially open to the public, and used as
a state guesthouse
• Darbar Mahal
It was commissioned by Bahawal Khan V
for his wife and completed in 1905. It has
not been open to the public since 1971,
but you can still enjoy looking at its
gorgeous exterior architecture.
• Tomb of Bibi
Jawindi
• It is nearby in Uch, a city founded
by Alexander the Great and
famed for its shrines and Sufi
culture. It was built in 1493 by an
Iranian prince, Dilshad, for Bibi
Jawindi, the great-granddaughter
of a famous Sufi saint.
Lal Suhanra National Park
• Lal Suhanra is a national park in Pakistan that is situated
in the Bahawalpur district of Punjab province and
is spread over an area of 127,480 acres (51,368 hectares)
• It is one of South Asia's largest nationals parks, and is
a UNESCO declared Biosphere Reserve. Lal Sohanra is
notable for the diversity of its landscape, which includes
desert, forest and wetland ecosystems.
Cultural Dress
• Females wear bright and
fresh colors with jewelry
made of gold and silver
• Traditional dress code for
males is Kameez, Shalwar
with turban on their
heads
• Both wear Khussa as their
foot wear.
Traditional Food
• Saag , greenish leafy vegetable served with breads made from whole
grain corn flour with toppings of fresh butter
• Lassi made from curd milk is served as refreshing beverage.

  • 3. The State belongs to the ruling family of the Abbasid clan and has directly descended from Hazrat-i-Abbas, the uncle of Holy Prophet Muhammad (May Peace Of Allah Be Upon Him). Ameer of Bwp, Lt. General, His Highness, Alhaj Sir Sadiq Mohammad Khan V, was the sixtieth in descent from Hazrat-i-Abbas Bin Mutlib. The Dauadpotra (sons of D’aud) Abbasids founded the Princely state of Bahawalpur in 1609 AD in Uch. The state has fertile land in Indus valley while desert train of Cholistan desert(Rohi). The State was abolished in 1955 and when it was merged with the province of West Pakistan History

  • 5. Ameer • Ameer of Bahawalpur, Lt. General, His Highness, Alhaj Sir Sadiq Mohammad Khan V, the last ruling and perhaps the most popular Nawab of Bahawalpur State • He founded Jamia Abbasia and Bahawalpur Central Library which is Pakistan’s largest Library in Bahawalpur • Sadiq Egerton College and Bahawal Victoria Hospital and many more are descendants of his legacy.

  • 13. Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) • Started functioning in 1876 • In 1952, a benevolent extension of Nursing School, Its nexus with Quaid e Azam Medical College (QAMC) in 1970 has transformed it into one of the largest tertiary care facilities in the province with 2200 beds capacity.
  • 15. • Abbassi Mosque This mosque’s exquisite cupolas and domes were built of the highest quality White marble in 1849 by Nawab Bahawal Khan, who was known for his dedication to beautiful architecture in Bahawalpur. • Derawar Fort 130 kilometres south of Bahawalpur City and this impressive fort is well worth the drive. It has forty bastions which are visible for miles all around in the Cholistan Desert. It was built in the 9th Century, and has withstood the tests of time quite well with its five- foot thick walls.
  • 16. • Gulzar Mahal This palace has the privilege of being the first building in Bahawalpur to have concealed electrical wiring and was commissioned by Nawab Sadiq Muhammad Khan IV. Similar to Noor Mahal, its architecture has distinctly European influences and is worth visiting. • Sadiq Garh Palace The only Palace which is far more superior to all others in terms of elegance and glory is named Sadiq Garh Palace. Established in 1882 by His Highness Nawab Sadiq Muhammad Khan (IV), shows same view from all four sides.
  • 17. • Noor Mahal Noor Mahal is a surprising wonder of architecture in the city. Built to resemble Italian chateaus along neoclassical lines, this palace was made in 1872 on the behest of Nawab Sadiq Muhammad Khan for his wife. It is partially open to the public, and used as a state guesthouse • Darbar Mahal It was commissioned by Bahawal Khan V for his wife and completed in 1905. It has not been open to the public since 1971, but you can still enjoy looking at its gorgeous exterior architecture.
  • 18. • Tomb of Bibi Jawindi • It is nearby in Uch, a city founded by Alexander the Great and famed for its shrines and Sufi culture. It was built in 1493 by an Iranian prince, Dilshad, for Bibi Jawindi, the great-granddaughter of a famous Sufi saint.

Lal Suhanra National Park • Lal Suhanra is a national park in Pakistan that is situated in the Bahawalpur district of Punjab province and is spread over an area of 127,480 acres (51,368 hectares) • It is one of South Asia's largest nationals parks, and is a UNESCO declared Biosphere Reserve. Lal Sohanra is notable for the diversity of its landscape, which includes desert, forest and wetland ecosystems.
  • 20. Cultural Dress • Females wear bright and fresh colors with jewelry made of gold and silver • Traditional dress code for males is Kameez, Shalwar with turban on their heads • Both wear Khussa as their foot wear.
  • 21. Traditional Food • Saag , greenish leafy vegetable served with breads made from whole grain corn flour with toppings of fresh butter • Lassi made from curd milk is served as refreshing beverage.
