The 10-week Spanish subject knowledge enhancement course covers topics like family, holidays, food, fashion, films and culture. Students will learn vocabulary, grammar, language in context and do extensive reading, listening and presentations. After week 6, students will go on a 2-week immersion course in Spain. Assessments include weekly speaking/writing presentations, self-study exercises, online activities and tests, as well as a final presentation about a Spanish-speaking country.

1. UEL— SPANISH SUBJECT KNOWLEDGE ENHANCEMENT COURSE
COURSE CONTENT
The students will complete a ten week course comprising of the
following topics:
Week 1: Family and Home Week 6: Environment *
Week 2: Holidays and Tourism Week 7: Education and Adolescents
Week 3: Food and Drink Week 8: Religion
Week 4: Fashion and Shopping Week 9: Immigration
Week 5: Films and Media Week 10: Culture and Society: A Broader View.
*Note: After week 6, students will complete a two week immersion
course in ‘Don Quijote’ school in Valencia, Spain.
LESSON FORMAT
The following aspects will be covered in each lesson :
1. Spanish culture and society.
2. Vocabulary learning and practice
3. Grammar explanations and practice
4. Language in situational context.
5. Extensive reading, listening and authentic audiovisual content.
6. Oral practice, role-plays, debates and presentations.
ASSESSMENT
In addition to this, it is expected that students will complete
weekly tasks which will be included in the final portfolio:
1. Directed speaking/writing presentations.
2. Self-study on specific grammar related exercises to consolidate
previous knowledge.
3. Web-based language activities and on-line tests to reinforce
learnt topics and grammar.
4. Finally, at the beginning of the course students will choose a
Spanish speaking country of their choice which will form part of
their ongoing weekly projects /assignments culminating on a final
speaking presentation for the Portfolio.
