2. PRELIMINARY TASK
At the beginning of the of the AS Media task, we wer tasked with
making a prelimanry film, this had to include an establishing shot,
over the shoulder, long and mid shot. We had to produce a
storyboard on this before we were able to film. We had to make sure
our storyboard included all of the shots.
3. EQUIPMENT
We had access to all of the school equipment when we were capturing
footage for all of the recording we did throughout the coursework. I
used the school tri-pod, however I decided to use my iPhone 6s for
the preliminary film. I upgraded my Phone to the iPhone 7 for the
Film opening, I used this because It has a better quality Camera, it
also blocks out background sound, this means it produces better
footage all round.
4. CAMERA SKILLS
When I first began filming my preliminary film, I did not have any
previous experience using a tri-pod, this meant that I was not
familiar with getting the smoothest shots, however as I have become
more experienced, I have been able to capture shots that have come
out far better.
When it came to filming my film opening, I decided to try and use
simple shots, the reason I did this is because I wanted to make sure
they were good quality, I still integrated all of the shots that I learned
in the preliminary task. Using these camera skills has enabled me to
create the intentional view I wanted.
5. EDITING
When producing my preliminary task, I was not required to do much
editing. This was because all I needed to do was put the clips into
chronological order, because of this I decided to use an app on my
phone to edit it, this was because It meant I did not have to transfer
my footage onto the school laptops, and spend more time editing the
laptops.
When producing my film opening, I had far more editing to do,
because of this I decided to use Premiere Pro, this is because it has
far more advanced editing features, this enabled me to used green
screen effects. It also allowed me to make all of my character names
fade in and out and alter the sounds of each clip.
6. SOUND
When I made my preliminary film, I did not incorporate any music in
this, the reason for this is because I did not know how to add music
to the film, which would fit the mood of the film.
When I created my Eye-Spy film, I decided that I needed to find a
theme tune that that would complete the film. From my previous
research into songs used in spy action films, I decided I needed an
emotional ballad, which would help reflect the mood of what was
going on. I chose to use Human by Rag and Bone, I felt this fitted the
film perfectly. I chose to start the song while the idents were rolling, I
then edited so the singing started as the action started in the film. As
the opening picks up the pace, so does the song, this really helps to
bring the whole film together.
7. IDENT AND TITLE
I decided that I would use the MGM ident for my film, the reason for
this is because it is the most commonly used distribution company
used for spy action films. I found this out through the research I
conducted.
From my research I conducted, I decided I needed to have all of my
titles fade In and out of the screen as the actor came on to the
screen, the reason for this was because it is conventional for spy-
action films. This was very difficult to do in the beginning as I did not
know how to create fades, I watched an internet tutorial and learned
how to do it and know have no problems with doing it.
8. TEAMWORK
For my preliminary film, we decided to act for each other, the reason
we did this is because it made it far easier and quicker.
When we were editing our films, we all helped each other out, to
teach each other new editing techniques, I helped Jasper and Gooch
out by showing them how to put in a green screen effect, I showed
them how to import the effect and then how to edit out the green
screen.
