2. Introduction
The term "Internet of Things" has come to describe
a number of technologies and research disciplines
that enable the Internet to reach out into the real
world of physical objects. Unlike M2M which is
used for machine to machine communication for
mere monitoring and control applications.
IoT Originally launched in 1997 under the title of
"Challenges to the Network”
IoT has covered all the industries right from energy,
manufacturing, healthcare, telecom and
transportation.
3. Features Of IoT
IoT having 4 protocol layers, those are Sensing and Identification
include various smart sensor devices based on GPS, RFID, Wi-Fi
etc. Network connectivity layer is based on wired and wireless
network such as WLAN, WPAN, WMAN, Ethernet, optical fiber
and more. Other two layers are information Processing and
application layer.
4. sensors are interfaced with the IoT device. IoT device will be
connected with PAN or LAN or Wi-Fi(wireless LAN) or cellular
network. Cellular network can be any existing one such as
GSM,LTE,CDMA etc. connected with device gateway on
the network side which inturn interfaced with internet via
WAN connection. This way two IoT devices can
communicate with each other
Two main subsystems involved in the IoT network viz.
front end and back end part, Front end is mainly
consists of IoT sensors which are MEMS based and Back
end consists of cellular, wireless and wired networks
which are interfaced with IoT devices.
5. IoT Application used in Industrial market for smart meters, Wear-
out sensing devices, Climate control, Automotive industries for
parking, traffic flow control, Anti-theft devices, Location tracking
etc., Environmental for species tracking, weather prediction and
resource management, agriculture market for crop
management and soil analysis, military for resource allocation,
threat analysis, troop monitoring etc.
Home appliance manufacturer Bosch Siemens Home (BSH)
recently unveiled Home Connect, a family of internet-connected
appliances. Among the features the smart appliances will
provide is an iOS and Android app to provide remote control
and monitoring over Wi-Fi.
There is a App to lock the car using there mobile devices for
Mahindra Eco. Analyst firm Gartner forecasts there will be 50
billion things connected on the internet by 2020
6. Challenges Of IoT
Three of the main concerns that accompany the Internet of
Things are the breach of privacy, over-reliance on technology,
and the loss of jobs
Privacy/Security With all of this IoT data being transmitted, the
risk of losing privacy increases.
Currently, there is no international standard of compatibility for
the tagging and monitoring equipment. I believe this
disadvantage is the most easy to overcome. The manufacturing
companies of these equipment just need to agree to a
standard, such as Bluetooth, USB, etc.
No system is robust and fault-free. specifically involving the
internet. Depending on the amount that an individual relies on
the information supplied could be detrimental if the system
collapses.
Connecting of more and more devices to the Internet will result
in the loss of jobs. The automation of IoT “will have a
devastating impact on the employment prospects of less-
educated workers“.
7. Trends
Mobile platform that links to most of the devices
with the particular app for maintaining the
concern. There are 3 main platforms that
revolution made for the handheld device those
are Android, Windows and iOS.
Media and Big Data are interconnected, it is first
necessary to provide some context into the IoT
mechanism used for media process.
The IoT assist in integration of communications,
control, and information processing across various
transportation systems.
8. Trends
Transport system of IoT enables inter and intra
vehicular communication, smart traffic control, smart
parking, electronic toll collection systems, logistic and
fleet management, vehicle control, and safety &
road assistance.
several planned large-scale deployments of the IoT,
to enable better management of cities and systems.
Songdo, South Korea, the first of its kind fully
equipped and wired smart city. There are 18000 city
smartphones applications available to
connecte10000 sensors that enable services like
parking search, environmental monitoring, digital city
agenda among others.
Trends that I expect to make big impact in the next
five years is Mobile integrated operation mechanism
and maintains of the concern IOT.
9. Interest Areas
My interest areas in the topic are Big Data
handling and Mobile integration. so I have
chosen this topic.
I would like to enhance my knowledge in
the advance technologies like Big Data
and also emphasis the internet usage in
different areas by creating internet based
applications.
