In this presentation, Aayushi introduces the topic of IoT and the associated trends. Aayushi wants to work on creating standards that make IoT devices safer to use.
2. What is Internet of Things?
The Internet of Things (IoT) refers to the network of physical objects
that have an IP address for internet connectivity, and communicate
with other Internet-enabled devices and systems.
The Internet of Things extends internet connectivity beyond
traditional devices like PCs, laptops, smartphones and tablets.
Objects that can fall into the scope of Internet of Things include
connected security systems, thermostats, cars, electronic
appliances, lights in household and commercial environments,
alarm clocks, speaker systems, vending machines and more.
3. Why have I chosen this topic ?
Internet of Things is an interesting and continuously emerging topic
in this fast paced technical world.
The Internet of Things (IoT) is the network of physical objects or
"things" with various sensors and are connected to some other
software and devices to enable better services and data sharing.
Within short span of time Internet of things has proceeded from
modified Coke machine at a university to RFID tags, bar codes,
digital watermarking ,smart devices, smart cities and there is lot
more yet to come.
It has a wide range of applications including transportation, media,
environment and health monitoring which comes along with various
issues and controversies like security.
This is what makes Internet of Things a really cool topic to work on.
4. Next Five Years of Internet of Things
According to various researches including Gartner and ABI , there
would be around 30 billion of devices that would be wirelessly
connected to Internet of Things, so more man-to-machine,
machine-to-man and machine-to-machine communication.
Our surroundings are going to get automated like our gadgets as
cars, fridge, doorbells and phones.
With this ,we will be handling loads of data (Big Data) with more
strong sensors that would require even better processing power.
Along with all this , the main concern will be security of data,
privacy of individuals and control.
5. What I want to do?
With the growth in the Internet of Things, there will a lot of data that
devices will be communicating to each other. Proper security and
handling of this data is main issue.
With more and more devices appearing on the network, they will be
more prone to the cyber attacks and thus there is special need to
make our devices secure.
Security of smart devices has to be improved a lot so as to make
them compatible with the coming needs.
Even though IoT is still in development phase and its difficult to
implement security standards at present, but we can start right now
to work in this field as things take time to eveolve.
