MINI PROJECT:
SOLAR BASED AGRICULTURE WITH IRRIGIATION SYSYEM
ABSTRACT
• Solar energy is the most abundant source of energy in the world .
• Solar Based irrigation system : a suitable alternative for farmers in the present state of energy crisis in India ( also it
is an eco friendly green way for energy production)
• An automatic irrigation system using solar panels and moisture sensors is used to pump water form bore well to the
irrigation field in wet and dry condition.
• These function of set of instructions can be achieved by using aurdino
• The relay module is used for switching purpose, of which is being controlled by the aurdino to turn on an off the
circuit of water supply
• In recent agriculture field farmers are facing many problems in watering their plants to keep their crops in summer
season .Its because they don’t have correct idea about the availability of the power even if the power is available they
have to stop doing other deeds but there is a solution automatic solar submersible pump control panel for irrigation in
the trail of solar based plant irrigartion using submirresible pump pv cells are used to generate electricity which is
stored in rechargable batteries
• These batteries produce power for operation A submersible pump controller used To pump water from a bore well to
a storage water tank then the water is drawn by a submerisible pump at the slopes toe
• Where is the installed sprinkler water the crops or plants .

Solar panel
• Solar panels are those devices which are used to absorb the sun’s rays and convert them into electricity or
heat.
• A solar panel is actually a collection of solar (or photovoltaic) cells, which can be used to generate
electricity through photovoltaic effect. These cells are arranged in a grid-like pattern on the surface of
solar panels.
Soil moisture sensors+
Measure the volumetric water content in soil. Since the direct gravimetric measurement of free soil moisture
requires removing, drying, and weighing of a sample, soil moisture sensors measure the volumetric water
content indirectly by using some other property of the soil, such as electrical resistance, dielectric constant, or
interaction with neutrons, as a proxy for the moisture content.
Arduino-
Arduino is an open-source platform used for building electronics projects. Arduino consists of both a physical
programmable circuit board (often referred to as a microcontroller) and a piece of software, or IDE
(Integrated Development Environment) that runs on your computer, used to write and upload computer code
to the physical board.
The Arduino platform has become quite popular with people just starting out with electronics, and for good
reason
Single relay module 5volts-
Relay is an electromechanical device that uses an electric current to open or close the
contacts of a switch. The single-channel relay module is much more than just a plain relay,
it comprises of components that make switching and connection easier and act as
indicators to show if the module is powered and if the relay is active or not.
LCD module( Liquid crystal display)-
An LCD is an electronic display module that uses liquid crystal to produce a visible image. The 16×2 LCD display is a very basic module
commonly used in DIYs and circuits. The 16×2 translates o a display 16 characters per line in 2 such lines. In this LCD each character is
displayed in a 5×7 pixel matrix.
Submersible pumps
Submersible pumps are often used to pump excess water from work sites or flooded basements in
construction sites. They can also be used to pump slurries. Submersible pumps can be used in inland or
offshore oil wells to pump oil from the ground to treatment and holding facilities above ground
Jumper wires-
A jumper wire is an electrical wire, or group of them in a cable, with a connector or pin at each end (or sometimes
without them – simply “tinned”), which is normally used to interconnect the components of a breadboard or
other prototype or test circuit, internally or with other equipment or components, without soldering
BLOCK DIAGRAM
• This smart irrigation system is a device, which is arduino based, and it uses sensors to detect the water
requirement of your plant/crop or soil.
• Once it gets the signal about lack of moisture content in soil or low water level in the fields (based on the set
criteria in the arduino UNO code), it will automatically provide for the water supply to the target area. It is easy
to use, water saving, cost effective modern irrigation technique
• Simply when the sensors senses low moisture content in the soil, it sends the signals to Arduino (a
microcontroller that works as per the instructions given to it via a code), the Arduino will process this data and
transfer it to relay, setting it to high state, thus connecting the pump to start the water supply towards the plants
• As soon as the plants get the required amount of water, sensor intimates the Arduino to stop the water supply
and relay is tuned to low state i.e., to disconnect the pump supply.
• So basically, the relay module here is an electrical switch which is being controlled be the arduino to turn on an
off the circuit of water supply.
ADVANTAGES:

◦ Reduction in electricity consumption and bills
• Low maintenance cost.
• Automatic control and operation, hence man power does not required.
• Easily diagnosis the surrounding environment.
• Solar based agriculture is eco-friendly as there is no green gas emitted from them after
installation.
DISADVANTAGES:
Solar water pumps that do not receive enough sun and run through all of their backup power will stop if you
have not hard wired them into your electric grid.
Some solar pump systems lack the power of traditional system.
If you are doing swap out of your existing electric system for a solar water pump, you will want to be sure
that the output and flow levels are the same to ensure that you don’t have a loss of effectiveness.
Solar panels working dependent on wheather .
Storing solar energy is expensive.Huge batteries are required to be store the energy.
APPLICATIONS:

• It can be used at agricultural fields, lawns & as drip irrigation system.
• It can be used for cultivation purpose.
• It can be used to provide water in nursery planting area.
• It can be used for wide range crops as one can customize reference required for different kind of
crops.
• Agriculture research stations.
conclusion
• The aim of this project is to save time ,money and water consumption,by providing automatic
control irrigation system using friendly solar power.
• This is an important study in energy and environmental sector.

ABSTRACT • Solar energy is the most abundant source of energy in the world . • Solar Based irrigation system : a suitable alternative for farmers in the present state of energy crisis in India ( also it is an eco friendly green way for energy production) • An automatic irrigation system using solar panels and moisture sensors is used to pump water form bore well to the irrigation field in wet and dry condition. • These function of set of instructions can be achieved by using aurdino • The relay module is used for switching purpose, of which is being controlled by the aurdino to turn on an off the circuit of water supply • In recent agriculture field farmers are facing many problems in watering their plants to keep their crops in summer season .Its because they don’t have correct idea about the availability of the power even if the power is available they have to stop doing other deeds but there is a solution automatic solar submersible pump control panel for irrigation in the trail of solar based plant irrigartion using submirresible pump pv cells are used to generate electricity which is stored in rechargable batteries • These batteries produce power for operation A submersible pump controller used To pump water from a bore well to a storage water tank then the water is drawn by a submerisible pump at the slopes toe • Where is the installed sprinkler water the crops or plants .

Solar panel • Solar panels are those devices which are used to absorb the sun’s rays and convert them into electricity or heat. • A solar panel is actually a collection of solar (or photovoltaic) cells, which can be used to generate electricity through photovoltaic effect. These cells are arranged in a grid-like pattern on the surface of solar panels.

  • 7. Single relay module 5volts- Relay is an electromechanical device that uses an electric current to open or close the contacts of a switch. The single-channel relay module is much more than just a plain relay, it comprises of components that make switching and connection easier and act as indicators to show if the module is powered and if the relay is active or not.
  • 8. LCD module( Liquid crystal display)- An LCD is an electronic display module that uses liquid crystal to produce a visible image. The 16×2 LCD display is a very basic module commonly used in DIYs and circuits. The 16×2 translates o a display 16 characters per line in 2 such lines. In this LCD each character is displayed in a 5×7 pixel matrix.
  • 9. Submersible pumps Submersible pumps are often used to pump excess water from work sites or flooded basements in construction sites. They can also be used to pump slurries. Submersible pumps can be used in inland or offshore oil wells to pump oil from the ground to treatment and holding facilities above ground

Jumper wires- A jumper wire is an electrical wire, or group of them in a cable, with a connector or pin at each end (or sometimes without them – simply “tinned”), which is normally used to interconnect the components of a breadboard or other prototype or test circuit, internally or with other equipment or components, without soldering

  • 13. • This smart irrigation system is a device, which is arduino based, and it uses sensors to detect the water requirement of your plant/crop or soil. • Once it gets the signal about lack of moisture content in soil or low water level in the fields (based on the set criteria in the arduino UNO code), it will automatically provide for the water supply to the target area. It is easy to use, water saving, cost effective modern irrigation technique • Simply when the sensors senses low moisture content in the soil, it sends the signals to Arduino (a microcontroller that works as per the instructions given to it via a code), the Arduino will process this data and transfer it to relay, setting it to high state, thus connecting the pump to start the water supply towards the plants • As soon as the plants get the required amount of water, sensor intimates the Arduino to stop the water supply and relay is tuned to low state i.e., to disconnect the pump supply. • So basically, the relay module here is an electrical switch which is being controlled be the arduino to turn on an off the circuit of water supply.

  • 15. DISADVANTAGES: Solar water pumps that do not receive enough sun and run through all of their backup power will stop if you have not hard wired them into your electric grid. Some solar pump systems lack the power of traditional system. If you are doing swap out of your existing electric system for a solar water pump, you will want to be sure that the output and flow levels are the same to ensure that you don’t have a loss of effectiveness. Solar panels working dependent on wheather . Storing solar energy is expensive.Huge batteries are required to be store the energy.
