3. ABOUT THE ATM:-
1 An ATM is an electronic device which allows a bank’s
customer to make cash withdrawals and check their
account balance at any time without the need for a human
teller.
2.. In ATM system customers authenticate themselves by
using a plastic card with a magnetic stripe which is known
as “ATM CARD”.
3. The magnetic stripe encodes the customers account
number and a numeric password which is known as PIN
(Personal Identification Number) .
3
4. HOWATM WORKS :-
1. Physical access card and PIN or other
password is used in order to access a
customer’s account
2. TheATM prompts the user to insert the card.
3. When the card is entered the customer
personal identification number (PIN) is
requested.
4
5. 4. The customer inputs his or her PIN.
5. If the card is a valid card which can be
processed by the machine then control transfer to
next stages and prompts the user to withdrawal of
cash.
6. If the number entered incorrectly several times in
row mostATMs will retain the card as a security
a
precaution to prevent an unauthorized users .
7. ATM reads and store customer’s data on a smart
card.
5
6. ATM Frauds
• ATM’s are manifold due to the exponential
growth of “intelligent” criminals day to day
• Now a days Frauds are easily taping the
passwords of card holder
6
7. Draw back of PIN
1 The PIN does not prove the identification of
the cardholder
2 People write PINs and disclose to others
increasing the risk of fraud; and PINs can
be stolen by observation
3 ATM systems today use no more than an
access card and PIN for identity verification
7
8. 4 There is an urgent need for improving
security in banking region.
5 So we
ATMs
need more security confirmation in

not the images, the bank could limit
transactions in manner agreed upon by
the customer when the account was
opened,
and could store the image of the user for
later examination by the bank officials
7. ATM reads and store customer’s data
on a smart card. 12

• Retina:
– Blood Vessel Pattern
The blood vessels at the back of
the
eye have a unique pattern, from
eye to eye and person to
person.
• Highly Accurate
• Low public acceptance .

15. Advantages
• Highly protected, internal organ of the eye
• Externally visible; patterns imaged from a
distance
• Iris patterns possess a high degree of
randomness
Changing pupil size confirms natural physiology
Limited genetic penetrance of iris patterns
Patterns apparently stable throughout life
Encoding and decision-making are tractable

16. Disadvantage
• Small target (1 cm) to acquire from a
distance (1 m)
Moving target ...within another
Located behind a curved, wet, reflecting
surface
Obscured by eyelashes, lenses, reflections
Partially occluded by eyelids, often drooping
Deforms non-elastically as pupil changes size
Illumination should not be visible or bright
Some negative (Orwellian) connotations

17. CONCLUSION:
• Thus this type of developed ATM is more
reliable in providing security by using facial
recognition software by keeping the time
elapsed in the verification process to a
negligible amount we even try to maintain the
effiency of ATM system to a greater degree.
