2. A job interview is a process in
which a potential employee is
evaluated by an employer for
prospective employment in their
company, organization, or firm.
During this process, the employer
hopes to determine whether or
not the applicant is suitable for
the job.
3. Why do employers interview
To find out 3 things:
• Will you be able to do the job well
= your skills and experience
• Are you really motivated to do the job
= evidence that you really want it
• Will you fit into the organization
= what kind of person you are

• Know your strengths & weaknesses
• Determine your employment interests;
what do you want to do and why
• Reflect on your values;
what’s most important to you
• Be prepared to cite several examples of experiences,
accomplishments, successes

and why you want to work for them!

7. Dressing for Success-Men
• Suit-Single or double breasted
• Polished shoes
• Solid white shirt
• Conservative tie
• Neatly groomed hair, beard,
and mustache
• Avoid strong colognes, earrings,
and body piercing

• Pant or skirt suit, decent traditional outfit.
• Pumps with small to medium heels
• Light makeup, perfume, and jewelry
• Wear neutral color
9. Arrivingon Time
• Be on time! This means not only don't be late, but don't be
too early, and don't arrive with "baggage". 10 minutes early is
good.
• Smile.
• Make eye contact and give a firm handshake.

• Wait until you are offered a chair before sitting

• Matching your communication style to that of the interviewer.
• Listen carefully to the interviewers questions
• Avoid interrupting the interviewer.
• Try not to use jargon in your answers or questions.

• Pronounce the interviewer's name PROPERLY.
• Get the interviewer to do a lot of the talking.
• Maintain Good eye contact with your interviewer.
• Smile. Look as if you are enjoying the conversation.
• Have a Confident posture.
• Mirror your interviewer's body language.
• Keep all your answers positive.
• Show ENTHUSIASM.
• LISTEN carefully to the interviewer's question.
• Ask the interviewer questions when the opportunity arises

• Don’t lie, your answers should be truthful, sincere to the point
• Don’t answer with a simple “yes” or “no” Explain using examples
• Don’t lose your temper, control your emotions
• Speak as clearly as possible
• Never bad mouth or complain about a previous employer
• Do not assume that the interviewers read your CV in detail, tell them
about yourself.
• Avoid sensitive issues such as topics related to politics and religion
unless directly linked to the job
• Sound enthusiastic about the position and the company
• Have a few questions about the job or companyready
• Let the interviewer raise the issue of salary and benefits
• Thank the interviewer/s for the opportunity and ask when you can
expect to hear from them
