5. • A complete blood count (CBC) is a blood test
used to evaluate your overall health and detect a
wide range of disorders, including anemia,
infection and leukemia.
• Abnormal increases or decreases in cell counts
as revealed in a complete blood count CBC may
indicate that you have an underlying medical
condition that calls for further evaluation
6. • CBC can evaluate all blood components
inlcudes:
• Red blood cell, which carry oxygen
• White blood cells, which fight infection
Hemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying protein in red
blood cells.
• . WBCs are of five types:
• .Lymphocytes (B &T), monocytes, eosinophil,
basophil, neutrophils.
• Platelets, plasma
10. • Clinical significance of CBC test is to diagnose any
disease from blood test.
• It helps in diagnoses of disease in early stage to make it
cure.
• We may seek further medications after this test to cure
our disease.
• A complete blood count may be used to monitor our
health if we're taking medications that may affect blood
cell counts.
• It may be recommend by our doctor; a complete blood
count as part of a routine medical examination to monitor
our general health and to screen for a variety of
disorders, such as anemia or leukemia.
11. Results will show the normal amount of RBCs, WBCs,
hematocrit, plasma, platelets.
RBCs, HEMOGLOBIN, HEMATOCRIT:
• Normal range in males:4.35-5.65 x 10(12)/L
• Normal range in females:3.92-5.13 x 10(12)/L
• If there is lower amount than normal it leads to anemia.
• If their number is higher than normal (Erythrocytosis) or high
hemoglobin/hematocrit level causes Polycythemia /hear
disease.
WBCs COUNT:
• Normal range in males:3.4-9.6 x 10(9)/L
• Normal range in males:3.4-9.6 x 10(9)/L
• If there is lower amount than normal leads to leukemia ,an
autoimmune disorder in which WBCs destroys, bone marrow
problems or cancer.
• If their number is higher than normal it causes inflamation
,indicates immune disorder or bone marrow disease.
12. PLETELETS COUNT:
• Normal range in males:135-317 x 10(9)/L
• Normal range in females:157-371 x 10(9)/L
• If there is lower amount than normal it leads to
Thrombocytopenia/dysfunction of platelets leads to risk of
excessive bleeding.
• If their number is higher than normal leads to
Thrombocytosis causes excessive clotting.
13. • Increase NEUTROPHILS fight against bacterial
infections.
• Increase EOSINOPHILS controls allergic reactions.
• Increase number of lymphocytes controls viral infection.
• In LEUKEMIA abnormal (mature or immature) WBC may
rapidly multiply.
14. CBC results that are outside the established reference
intervals may indicate the presence of one or more
diseases or conditions. Typically, other tests are performed
to help determine the cause of abnormal results. Often,
a blood smear will be examined using a microscope. A
trained laboratory professional will evaluate the
appearance and physical features of the blood cells, such
as size, shape and color, noting any abnormalities that may
be present. This information gives the healthcare
practitioner additional clues as to the cause of abnormal
CBC results.
