Peer-Assessment Tips
Below is the feedback given by each department from briefing on Monday 10th
March 2014.
MFL
1. What three things have the student done well and write one recommendation to
improve their work.
2. Assessor to highlight the key words used.
3. Get assessors to correct five errors and annotate the corrections. Why are they
incorrect?
4. Look out for grammar, comment on verb endings, tenses, adjective endings.
5. Literacy: Spelling and accents and pronunciation.
History
1. Use of colour coded highlighting to identify different success criteria.
2. Literacy checklist (with tick boxes) to check work before handed in (esp
assessments/extended writing).
3. Clear definition of skills descriptors eg infer, explain, describe – so students know
what to look for. These could be put on display in classrooms.
Geography
1. Offer your neighbour an example of an improved sentence in a part of their
assessment.
2. Compare your work to a model answer from the teacher/student.
3. Compare your work to the criteria using Geography assessment card.
4. Point out how to improve the spelling and grammar on your neighbour’s work.
Science
1. Think of a question related to the topic.
2. Can you identify any keywords misspelled?
3. Colour code success criteria e.g. green = C
4. Less focus on quantitative and more on qualitative (develop the answer don’t
focus on how many marks it is worth).
5. Could you use any keywords to improve your answer?
Cultural Studies
1. Highlight 3 key words/facts/quotations used effectively.
2. Why and how – what steps do they need to take to improve?
3. Highlight the link back to the question.
4. Check they have used the PEA structure appropriately.
Business and ICT
1. Measurable target – monitor progress against it.
2. One positive comment and ways to improve
3. Feedback by making improvements to a deadline.
Maths
1. Be specific with WWW and EBI – link feedback to the question.
2. SMART targets.
3. Highlight where the ‘method marks’ are gained.
4. Encourage student to go back through work and show at least ONE solution in
detail.
Expressive Arts
1. How did the work meet the mark criteria?
2. Using colours – one good point and one area to improve using the success
criteria.
3. Write a tip for how the student’s work could move up a level/grade.
4. Students complete peer-assessment in a different colour.
English
1. Use specific key words from the success criteria.
2. Mark using a FUN key – symbols represents criteria.
3. Highlight/underline examples in the work itself.
4. Peer assessment pairs according to pairs/skills.
5. Annotate the work ‘mark like a teacher’.
6. Subject + SPAG target.

Briefing: Peer-Assessment Feedback

  • 1. Peer-Assessment Tips Below is the feedback given by each department from briefing on Monday 10th March 2014. MFL 1. What three things have the student done well and write one recommendation to improve their work. 2. Assessor to highlight the key words used. 3. Get assessors to correct five errors and annotate the corrections. Why are they incorrect? 4. Look out for grammar, comment on verb endings, tenses, adjective endings. 5. Literacy: Spelling and accents and pronunciation. History 1. Use of colour coded highlighting to identify different success criteria. 2. Literacy checklist (with tick boxes) to check work before handed in (esp assessments/extended writing). 3. Clear definition of skills descriptors eg infer, explain, describe – so students know what to look for. These could be put on display in classrooms. Geography 1. Offer your neighbour an example of an improved sentence in a part of their assessment. 2. Compare your work to a model answer from the teacher/student. 3. Compare your work to the criteria using Geography assessment card. 4. Point out how to improve the spelling and grammar on your neighbour’s work.
  • 2. Science 1. Think of a question related to the topic. 2. Can you identify any keywords misspelled? 3. Colour code success criteria e.g. green = C 4. Less focus on quantitative and more on qualitative (develop the answer don’t focus on how many marks it is worth). 5. Could you use any keywords to improve your answer? Cultural Studies 1. Highlight 3 key words/facts/quotations used effectively. 2. Why and how – what steps do they need to take to improve? 3. Highlight the link back to the question. 4. Check they have used the PEA structure appropriately. Business and ICT 1. Measurable target – monitor progress against it. 2. One positive comment and ways to improve 3. Feedback by making improvements to a deadline. Maths 1. Be specific with WWW and EBI – link feedback to the question. 2. SMART targets. 3. Highlight where the ‘method marks’ are gained. 4. Encourage student to go back through work and show at least ONE solution in detail.
  • 3. Expressive Arts 1. How did the work meet the mark criteria? 2. Using colours – one good point and one area to improve using the success criteria. 3. Write a tip for how the student’s work could move up a level/grade. 4. Students complete peer-assessment in a different colour. English 1. Use specific key words from the success criteria. 2. Mark using a FUN key – symbols represents criteria. 3. Highlight/underline examples in the work itself. 4. Peer assessment pairs according to pairs/skills. 5. Annotate the work ‘mark like a teacher’. 6. Subject + SPAG target.
