5. 1. Installation of Bower
• Bower requires Node and npm and Git.
• Download and install Node
https://nodejs.org/download/
• For Windows an additional step to install git.
http://msysgit.github.io/
• Now to install bower run the command: npm install -g bower

6. 2. Install/Uninstall packages
• Install packages with bower install
★ bower install <package>
➡ bower install jquery
➡ bower install backbone
➡ bower install angular
★ Bower installs packages to bower_components/
• Uninstall a package
★ bower uninstall <package>
★ It removes the package directory which was created
while installing it.

7. 3. Install specific version using Bower
• bower install <package>#<version>
bower install jquery#2.0.2
bower install backbone#1.0.0
bower install angular
• To know the versions available
bower info <package>

• Updates installed packages to their newest version
according to bower.json
bower update
• To update only a specific package to newest version
bower install <package>
• To check all packages installed in a project
bower list

• To search by name:
bower search <name>
• To search by any keyword

10. Bower Configuration
• By using bower.json
• Used by the bower packages to provide the
information to bower in-order to install the package.
• Also used by the projects to consume packages in
order to keep track of the packages it consumes.
• .bowerrc file to configure the directory path to store
the packages.
• Use the command: bower install <package> —save to
update the bower.json of the project to add the
package.

11. Benefits of using Bower
1. You don't need to download the dependencies from
GitHub yourself.
2. It makes it easy to update your dependencies without
having to manually go and find the latest version. A
single command will update them all.
3. Transitive dependencies - Bower will install all the
transitive dependencies (For instance, downloading
bootstrap will also download jQuery.).
4. Removes dependency of CDNs - CDNs and library
locations can go down.
5. No need to commit dependencies to version control.
6. Portability - With bower.json file, all developers can get
up to speed with a simple "bower install”.
