 Media codes generally have an agreed meaning, or connotation,
to their audience
 Conventions are expected ways in which codes are organised in a
product.
Codes Conventions
 Symbolic
 Tehnical
 Written
 Form
 Story
 Genre
 Two rules in making good logo are:
1. Keep it simple
2. Usability
 Designers need to take the limitations of human cognition into
account as wall as the reality of limited working memory
 Usability refers to how effectively and efficiently a task can be
complited.
 By using learned conventions and patterns a designer can set up
experience the user of journey by being familiar, using predictable
patterns for common controls
 Example: “Coca Cola”
 Frank M Robinson, directors bookkeeper, suggested that “the two
Cs would look well in advertising”
 He wanted his name for the new product to have an effective and
dramatic style of its own
 It represents:
1. RED: Passion, strength, power, love, energy.
2. WHITE: Innocence, youth, peace, purity, humility. Coca Cola only
have a logo type
