•To understand the editingterm ‘montage’ and how
and whyit is used in film.
Starter Activity
• Arrange the images cards you have in frontof you
to create a narrative.
For example:
Montage
Montage is a techniquein film editingin which a series
of short shots are edited intoa sequence to condense
space, time, andinformation.
Montage
Montage can be used toshow three things:
1) The passageof time.
2) Create symbolic meaning.
3) To give the audience the impressionsomething has
happened withoutshowing the actualevent.
ThePassageof Time
• The passage of timecan be shown by a number of short clips
thatportray a change or progression of the subjects in the
clips.

• Sometimes asymbolic meaning ormessage can be created

thinkthatsomethingis happening/ has happened without
