FAREWELL TO SPEECH
COMMUNICATION

INTRODUCTION
In this PowerPoint present, is my way of saying farewell to speech
communication. You will see the definition of speech
communication, a brief history of speech communication, and five
reason to take speech communication.
DEFINITION OF SPEECH
 Speech communication is defined as communication by word of
mouth.

 Non-standard speech
 Conversation
HISTORY OF SPEECH
COMMUNICATION
Speech communication as a field of study is 2500 years old.
Finland, education of rhetorics and particularly in pronunciation,
use voice, and oral interpretation, merge into the so called
FINNISH LANGUAGE MOVEMENT.
The name SPEECH COMMUNICATION was first use at
University of Jyvaskyla in 1980’s.
FIVE REASONS TO TAKE
SPEECH COMMUNICATION
 You will likely need the experience.
 Help you in other classes or jobs.
 Become a better listener.
 Encourages you to voice your ideas & take advantage of
influences you have.
 Teaches you to face your fear head on.
CONCLUSION

Final thought, I have learn a lot about publicly speaking and giving speeches. Even
though it’s still hard to do I have a better understanding of it now.

No matter your career, you are almost certain to have a oral presentation. No matter your major you have a oral presentation. In speech communication you will different speeches, different people, from different countries and states. You can’t change the world with one speech, but you can make a impact. To give a good speech, you have to stand in front of people and make eye contact.
  2. Idiolect is the language or speech of one individual at a particular period of life. Non-standard speech is speech that differs from the usual accepted, easily recognizable speech of native adult members of a speech community. Conversation is the use of speech for informal exchange of views or ideas or information etc….
  3. Its roots lie in a ancient study of rhetoric. In the 1960’s, education in oral interpretation and public speaking was input into Finnish Universities. Now, university of Jyvaskyla is the center of speech communication research & professional education in Finland.
