2. The 53 Stations of the Tokaido
The Old Tokaido Road was one of the most important means of transportation for centuries. It
connected the imperial and cultural capital of Kyoto with the political and economic metropolis of
Tokyo.
.Samurai, shogun, princesses, and others walked the Tokaido on their way through Japan.
The Tokaido supplied and dispersed materials, travellers and ideas and thoughts.
It remains the busiest shinkansen line to this day.
3. The old Tokaido Road was a historical means of proliferating ideas through Japan.
We at YouMeWe want to harness this idea in our campaign to put a computer in each
of the 600 children’s home in Japan.
Through a computer, you can access information and the world.
For some of these children, a computer will be pivotal for schoolwork, wider learning
and greatly increase their capacity to flourish in modern society.
Our massive mission for empowerment will begin along the 53 stations of the old Tokaido.
5. Empowerment Through Computers
Computer and internet access are becoming fundamental to education and functioning in the wider world.
Teenagers who have access to home computers are 6-8% more likely to graduate from high school than
teenagers who do not have home computers.
[even after controlling for family and socio-economic circumstances]
Computers have an increasingly important role in our society, and the importance of digital literacy grows.
Daniel O. Beltran & Kuntal K. Das & Robert W Fairlie, 2008. ‘Are Computers Good for Children? The Effects of Home Computers on Educational
Outcomes,’ CEPR Discussion Papers 576, Centre for Economic Policy Research School of Economics, Australian National University
Children who have access to computers at home perform better in class than those who don’t.
Computers provide access to information, employment and educational opportunities.
In an increasingly virtual world, everything exists online: homework, job and university applications.
6. 5 Main Roads
The Tokaido is just one of the five main roads.
Just as access is only one of our five goals.
