2. What does our digestive system do?
Mouth
Our digestive system helps us get the nutrients we need from food.
Stomach
(like a bag)
Oesophagus
(long tube)
Small intestine
(a very long thin tube)
Large intestine
(wide tube)

3. DIGESTIVE SYSTEM

4. 2) A tongue mixes the food with saliva so it´s easy to swallow.
MOUTH
1) The mouth has teeth that break the food into small pieces

5. 3) Food goes down to the stomach.
OESOPHAGUS

6. 5) In the stomach gastric juices break down the food even
more and turn it into a thick liquid.
STOMACH
4) The food stays in the stomach for about three hours.

6) The thick liquid leaves the stomach and goes into the
small intestine.

8. 8) The thick liquid from the stomach goes through
here and the nutrients pass into the blood.
SMALL INTESTINE
7) There are lots of blood vessels around the small
intestine.

9. 9) The large intestine connects to the anus.
LARGE INTESTINE
10) What our body doesn’t need goes along the large intestine
and out through the anus when we go to the toilet.
