2. Digestive system

The digestive system is a group of organs working together
to convert food into energy and basic nutrients to feed the
entire body.

3. Mouth

The mouth is the beginning of the digestive tract. Digestion starts
here as soon as you take the first bite of a meal. Chewing breaks the
food into pieces that are more easily digested, while saliva (salivary
gland) mixes with food to begin the process of breaking it down
into a form your body can absorb and use.

4. Pharynx

Pharynx allows the food to enter into the esophagus (food
pipe) preventing the food from entering into trachea (wind
pipe). It is also called a throat. Pharynx is the second place
where food meets up in a junction.

5. Oesophagus

The oesophagus is a muscular tube extending from the
pharynx to the stomach . Oesophagus allows the process of
peristalsis. The oesophagus allows the food and pushes the
food to enter the stomach. The oesophagus helps to carry
food, liquids, and saliva from the mouth to the stomach.The
oesophagus is about 8 inches long.

6. Stomach

The stomach is sac – like organ which resembles like a J – shaped .
The esophagus sends the food to stomach , the stomach grinds the
food into simple pieces. The stomach secretes an acid called gastric
acid and powerful digestive enzymes which helps in braking down
of food . When the food leaves from the stomach , the food is in
liquid or in paste form. The stomach pushes the food to the small
intestine.

7. Small intestine

The small intestine is a long structure which is made up of
three segments such as duodenum, jejunum, and ileum . The
small intestine is 6 meters long or 20 feet long. The small
intestine continues the process of breaking down food by
using enzymes released by the pancreas and bile from the
liver.

8. Large Intestine

The major function of the large intestine is to absorb water
from the remaining indigestible food matter and transmit
the useless waste material from the body. The large intestine
comprises of the second part of the alimentary canal. It
absorbs water , nutrients and other useful substances from
the food which is passing through the large intestine.

9. Rectum and anus

The rectum and anus are the final stages of the digestive
tract. The rectum is the last straight section of the large
intestine before reaching the anus. The anus is the opening
at the lower end of the digestive tract that controls the
expulsion of feaces.

10. Process of digestion

First the food is entered into the body by the process of
eating , we chew the food and the food travels through the
esophagus . The esophagus allows the food to push to the
stomach . The stomach secretes acids which break down the
food into tiny particles and the food is moved to small
intestine. It again brakes the food by enzymes and the food
is sent to large intestine which absorbs water and nutrients
which sends the food for excretion through rectum and anus.
