11. Sustainability
Sustainability means meeting our own
needs without compromising the ability of
future generations to meet their own needs.
It has three aspects which is called triple
bottom line.
Sustainability
Economic
Social
Environmental
11
12. Environmental Sustainability
Controlling our Environmental bottom line means managing, monitoring, and
reporting your consumption and waste and emissions.
Environmental Sustainability includes:
Renewable energy use and energy consumption (direct and indirect)
Amount of material that is recycled
Amount of water withdrawn from local water sources
Total NOx, SOx, and GHG emissions
12
13. Economic Sustainability
Economic capital under the Triple Bottom Line model should be measured in
terms of how much of an impact our business has on its economic
environment.
It involves making sure the business makes a profit, but also
that business operations don't create social or environmental issues that
would harm the long-term success of the company.
13
14. Economic Sustainability
The business is economic sustainable or not it can be measured by asking these
questions:
• Do our business help local suppliers stay in business and innovate? Or do our
activities put the local economy at risk?
• Do we pay employees enough to stimulate economic growth and spending? Or do
our compensation policy shrink local economy?
• Do we choose materials that are economically a good investment? Or do we buy
cheaper products that create issues in other areas?
14
15. Social Sustainability
The business is social sustainable or not it can be measured by asking these
questions:
• Is our business a job-growth driver in our city? Do you or your employees give
back to the community?
• Are the people you hire statistically better situated within the community in terms
of economic stability and community health?
• Does our business support local initiatives and grow the overall sustainability of
our community/region?
• Do we implement fair hiring standards? What are our employee demographics?
