efficient technologies with a goal
of minimizing net energy usage of the building.
The Challenge
McKenney’s was responsible for a tight
project schedule, which required management
of several major subcontractors performing
work concurrently and coordination of
material storage at a congested job site.
The Solution
A pre-planning and batching effort was
implemented. Many energy efficient technolo-
gies were utilized, including: dual energy
recovery wheels, an under-floor air distribu-
tion system with individual zone controls, a
prefabricated chiller plant with a magnetic
bearing compressor, natural ventilation with
automatically controlled windows and louvers,
radiant under-slab heating systems, coil
condensate recovery, and an underground
rainwater recovery system for the toilets and
HVAC systems. McKenney’s was able to keep
minimal amounts of material on the jobsite
and worked effectively with other contractors.
The Results
McKenney’s successfully completed the job
on schedule and on budget and helped the
laboratory earn LEED®
Platinum certification.
