• I was very surprised to see the variety and quality of lesson plans
offered by SMART Exchange.
• The lesson I chose is a Cross-curricular art and history for 5-7
grade students.
• This lesson is perfect for me because I hope to teach either middle school or
elementary students after I get my Art Education degree.
3. Lesson Highlights
• I loved the way the information was presented, because it
connects the art making with history. It’s wording is simple
and effective for the age group.
• The font is also an important aspect of the presentation’s
universal design, because Comic Sans is recommended by
multiple organizations, such as the British Dyslexia
Association, because it is easy for people with dyslexia to
differentiate and understand the letters.
4. Continued
• The presentation of the artistic concepts are an important
part of this lesson’s universal design.
• The terms are presented with definitions in a different
slide, but they are also presented visually.
• The wide range of examples is also an important aspect
in helping students understand this new concept.
5. • This slide in particular was interesting to me, because
it shows an excellent utilization of the software offered
in the SMART Board programming.
• Students can drag the terms in the blue boxes over to
the white blanks that match with definitions
• I think that it is very important that the buttons at the
bottom of the screen give an option to check the
answers after the students match the definitions, or for
the program to solve and match the definitions.
• I think that this feature is useful because it lets
students know that they can still access the
information even if they don’t know the answer on
the first try.
6. My adaptations
• I would leave the format of this lesson largely unchanged, because
I do not think it needs improvements, but I would edit the content
slightly:
• I would add information about the subject matter of the Greek
Black-Figure Pottery
• This might include some basic information on Greek mythology and ancient
Olympics
• I believe that this could provide students with inspiration and allow them to
make connections with the material, because it would provide context to
the strange figures on the vases.
