A2 MEDIA COURSEWORK EVALUATION QUESTION 3
What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
Throughoutourprojectme andmy grouprecivedanumberof piecesof feedbackonourworkforthe
music video, digipak and posters. This feedback came from our teachers, classmates and target
audience andprovidedusinsighton whatis good about our productsas well aswhat improvements
could be made.
I have been able to use the feedback given to my advantage and improve my work to look better or
convey genre conventions further.
Music Video:
These piece of feedback was left to us by our teacher on
Twitterinregardstoour musicvideo,whichwe uploadedto
YouTube and tweeted out.
After gaining feeedback about our draft music video, we
were told by our teacher that our music video needed to
have more of a twist. In response we came up with several
ideas:
1. We would have a loop connecting the start and the end together (the start is the end with a slight
change). The Hunterwill come into the studio at the end, take off his maskand then ashe is walking
up to the mic, the video would cut and a black screen would be shown.Matching similarshotsshown
at the beginning of the video.
2. Another ending idea would be at the end after “The Hunter” has just killed the victim, a face reveal
would be shown showing the mysterious person taking off his mask, to reveal that it is the victim.
Which would indicate that he is killing himself.
3. Anotheridea is thattowardstheend of the video,The Hunter (lead singer) appearsatthestudio door
wherethe band arewaiting to record;the band (Drummerand Guitarist) lookup and are shown to be
shocked/surprised, and the scene cuts to black.
4. Another variation is that all members (lead singer, guitarist and drummer) are there about to start
recording,butthen TheHunterwalksthrough thedoor,and allband memberslookup,and itisshown
thatthe“The Hunter"takes off hismaskand heisthe sameperson asthelead singer.Thescene would
then cut to black.
This piece of feedback gave us some advice that made the story of our music video more appealing
and interesting rather than be generic and typical of a killer/revenge story.

I also created a questionnaire for my target market and classmates to complete. This providedme
feedback on what a large range of people though about the video and whether there the video met
the target of looking like a video that was ‘Punk’. Here are some of the findings:

There was a number of things that I found out from
conductingthisquestionnaire.Firstly,Isaw thatmajority
of people use their phone as the main way of watching
musicvideos.Thisisprobablybecause of ease of access.
Additionally, the overwealming majority of people use
YouTube to watch music video, in appose to traditional
methods like watching on music TV channels like MTV.
This wasn’t much of a shock to me as technological
developments and the rise of the internet has had a
strong impact on how people consume media.
I also asked what people likedabout the video and what they would change about the music video.
Thisgave use constructive critisismonthe videoandmade suggestingsonwhatwe couldchange. We
didn’tgetmany suggestingsonwhatwe couldimprove furtherbutwe still gota few we we tookino
account when finishing our video.

Digipak and Magazine Advert:
I also gained a large amount of feedback from my Digipak and
Magazine advert. After giving in my drafts, I revieved a sheet of
areas inwhichI couldimprove in.these thingscouldthenbe fixed
and added for when the final versions were to be handed in.
Feedbacksuchas havingthe release date fall ona Friday, limitthe
amountof record labels, changingthe sizeof the parental advisory
logowere given. Also, Iwastoldtoadd some formof photography
intomy designasitwouldbe be expectedbythe examboard.This
made me have to expandmyimaginationtothingof how I couold
implement photography while still keeping the simplicity of my
intial design.
I was also given some positive words on my design on the media department’s
twitter account. This made me think that what I was doing was good and
motivatedme furthertoensureeverythingthatneededfixingwouldbe effectively
to get me the highest grade possible.
In addition to comments made by my media teachers, I also received feedback
from my classmates and the target market. This feedback was as helpful as the
teachers’ feedback as it allowed me to understand how people that listen to the
genre of punkthought,asIdonot normallylistentopunkmusicandthereforewouldwanttoconform
to genre conventions. To collect feedback, I was given commentson my blog posts as well as had a
numberof people completequestionnairesbasedonmyproducts. These gave me an understanding
of how the target marketreacted.Italso gave me the opportunitytoget constructive-criticismabout
how I could improve my designs, although not a lot was used.
Here are some of the comments and opinions on my digipak design. On the left is a few criticisms
about my design such as ‘make the red in the maze stand out more’ and ‘text could be larger’.

I also conducted a questionnaire for my
series of magazine adverts. Similarly, to the digipak’s questionnaire, it also gave me the opportunity
to gain constructive-criticism from classmatesand the target market about how I could improve my
designs, although not a lot was used.

FromthisfeedbackIwasabletolearnwhichadvertisementposterwasthe targetaudience’sfavourite
as well as whethertheyfeltthe posterssuitedthe genre of punk(whichthe majoritydid). Iwas also
given some constructive feedback about changes I could make to improve including having more
emphasis on the band.
Overall, the feedback that I have gained over my work has been able to provide me with an
understanding of what my target audience likes based on the genre choice.
