1. Compare and Contrast
There are many interesting differences and similarities in the two
stories Ali Baba and Aladdin. The reason I am comparing and contrasting
these stories is so that I can better understand and learn about Arabian
folktales.
One similarity between these two stories is that they are both Arabian
folktales. I know this because they take place in Arabian cities and the
names of the main characters don’t sound like American names.
Another similarity between Ali Baba and Aladdin is that there is a
treasure in a cave in Ali Baba as well as in Aladdin.
Ali Baba and Aladdin share another similarity and that is that they are
poor in the two stories. You know that they are poor because Ali Baba has a
very small home and Aladdin doesn’t have a home and he steals for food.
Relating the paragraph above the main characters are poor at the
beginning but surprisingly they both get rich at the end of the story. Ali
Baba gets rich by finding a treasure and Aladdin gets rich because he
married the prince.
Although there are many similarities there are also a lot of differences
too. Like how in Aladdin there is one thief but in Ali Baba there are 40
thieves.
“Open sesame!” Would be what you had to say to get into the cave in
Ali Baba. But to get into the cave in Aladdin you had to be chosen by the
cave. There for in Ali Baba anyone who knows the password to the cave can
get into it and in Aladdin you have to be chosen to get access into the cave.
Six is the number of pieces Ali Baba’s brother got cut into. Zero is the
number that the brother Aladdin doesn’t have didn’t get cut into. In simpler
language Ali Baba’s brother got cut into six pieces and Aladdin doesn’t even
have a brother.
The last difference is that the weird rug and funny genie help Aladdin.
But in Ali Baba no magical things help and protect him.
I found that these two stories are very much alike and different from
each other and that they helped me better understand, plus enjoy Arabian.
